Barbra Joan... did you guys have a "Hesitation Dance" in Jr. High around 1958 where the band would hold on one chord and everybody paused from dancing until the beat started again? Just wondering.. we had it in Ft. Worth, TX. Can't find anyone who remembers. Peace.

Please, listen many "Blue Notes" sessions, with Rudy Van Gelden, with his withe gloves, as Sound Sorcerer. With Miles, Thelonious, Milt Jakcson. The Sound of Bernie Gordie come from this guy, more or less..I discovered "Martha and the Vendellas" by...Chris Squire, Bassist and Founder of Yes. 5 years of "European Tours" as Bass Tech, 1999-2004. Many nights to talk Musics during many years. Finally, please also The Bass Solo of "Starships Troopers", Its a respectuous Hommage to "Bernie Gordy" Sound, James Jamerson of course. And Alan White, who played with Joe Cocker was reallly happy too. Martha and The Vendellas. A Pure Diamond.

      Yes! 1964 Was Great!
It was plenty of protesting against school racial segregation and the Vietnam War. The scumbag teamster Jimmy Hoffa was convicted and the USA help out in a coup to overthrow the Brazilian President, starting 21 years of dictatorship there.
Also, Mrs. Malcolm Peabody, 72, sat 2 days in a Florida jail, for participating in an anti-segregation demonstration there and some black folks were kidnapped and beaten by members of the KKK.
Their badly decomposed bodies are found just before three Congress of Racial Equality workers, are abducted and murdered near Philadelphia, Mississippi, by local members of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan with local law enforcement officials involved in the conspiracy.
Who can forget the plentiful style and class!?

I'd argue that Beatles/Aretha Franklin/Bob Dylan probably had the lead that decade

This song brings back such memories! When I was a freshman in college, they closed off our street to traffic so we could get out there and dance! Of course they played this song! I grew up on Motown music and still love it to this day. Besides, this lady is my namesake...

I didn't know this Motown group did this song. I thought it was Bowie n jagger, im only 37 born December 1981 so im happy to know now after being at Motown the Musical theatre show in Scotland . Such a great track to dance to, its hard not to want to move to it. Also thought that you cant hurry love was a phil collins song ,its the supremes. I stand corrected .soo much talent at Motown and soo much quality music . Michael Jackson still my all time favourite by a distance . Nobody excites me or moves me emotionally or to dance like MJ, the most special sweet man in my eyes and his talent was off the charts. I miss him, i love him. Ill take his music and memories to my grave .mj is a big part of my life and his music dance n message of love has made my life better. But a big thank u to all the Motown stars for sharing their gift and soulful music which was pure and tasteful, all about love n respect .peace ,lets continue to spread Motown n MJ for future generations to have quality soulful music

Mannnnn I loved me some Martha Reeves when I was a little boy in the sixties, hahaha, hahaha. But I never knew until today when I was reading this article. That this was considered a protest song utilized by the Black panthers and H.Rap Brown at some of their rallies. Isn't it ironic that what this song was trying to convey way back then. People across the nation dancing in the streets, we ain't dancing but we're out in the streets together united trying to bring about change. RIP to all the fallen and I hope they are reaping the rewards of the martyrs that they are.
