    Thank you Mr. Rich for being a great inspiration to me and my fellow drummers. I saw you when I was 20 years old and almost gave up drumming. But at 75 years old I still play thanks to great drummers like you. May you rest in peace. Great interview.

    I was one of those 15-year-olds who latched on to Buddy's band thanks to the influence of my drum teacher. Ended up seeing him around a dozen times before he died. What an experience. I've always joked that you could tell the drummers in the audience because we were the ones openly weeping. 😂

    I’ve heard quite a few interviews with Buddy Rich, but I think this is the best.
    The only deficit is that you can barely hear the interviewer asking the questions.

    Fascinating background to Chez sessions, spinning off the Vegas Davis gig where band fired opening night.
    Our school band had several charts by Holman and worked them up to some acclaim. COUNTLESS hours spent (and several phono needles) later, had them cold. Yes, we aped the recording at first, but made the several tunes our own.
    Rich band of ‘67 produced great, GREAT albums, assisted very much by Wally Heider remote unit: Swingin’ New Big Band, and Big Swing Face were gospel to Vincennes wanna-be cats.
    Thanks very much for this post.
    Aloha…

    Crazy to hear him mention Mtv. For some reason, my mind pictures Buddy in the 50's, 60's and 70's. I tend to forget that he was still going strong in the late 80's.

    Buddy was wrong about playing in Europe. He first played Europe in 1957 with Harry James.

    You were a frigging drummer. For crying out loud. Yes you were great but sinatra could sing with a five gallon drum. you were great. But were a chump in some ways.

    • @cave1958
      @cave1958 14 днів тому +10

      A band is only as good as the drummer. A lot of musicians are chumps. Yeah, Buddy wasn't perfect as a person.... who is?

    • @robertcook2680

      You apparently do not understand how much a band, any band, rock or jazz, can be either improved or hindered based on the quality of the drummer. The engine in your car is JUST your engine; not important at all!
