The city isn't prioritizing the gold. It is prioritizing the science of the turtle tile. It is a *really* nice tile. You should have prioritized upgrading it.
I agree. I don't like it when people say "you are playing wrong". That said, I would have prioritized differently. The Amber and Turtle tiles are just better than incense, which is a dead tile unless you feel like you are willing to sacrifice both growth and production to have the +1 faith to chase a specific pantheon a bit faster. Then you get god of the sea, but can't work the tiles. Also, a quick galley and you can go out and take advantage of your +1 sight to reveal a LOT of map to meet city states and civs (more traders). With fishing boat and GOTS those three tiles are 9F, 6P, 3G, 2S, 1C and 1.5Housing with 2 luxuries to sell (~10G per turn). At 4 pop you add the Rice to go to 13F from tiles or switch to the quarry for 11F 8P from tiles. That's 5 tile improvements with one left over for the horses in Beja. Two fishing boats also Eureka's a critical tech (Celestial Nav for Harbors). Irrigation euraka was fine, but with only 1 plantation candidate near the capital I would finish that tech later unless it blocks something or when I finally got a city down by the dyes. Just my opinion on the path I would have taken. Feels like a great spawn location that was not maximized. I do like watching other players because I learn from them and there are many ways to get to victory in Civ. So this is just my opinion. I would also have just hard built Foreign Trade. With 3 traders you are raking in another 20+ gold plus a little bit of other stuff. Gold is important on Epic since everything builds slower and it can take forever for a new city to get basic infrastructure down.
@@wdremington I think he improved the incense for the luxury, not to actually work the tile. With his settler spam he's not going to use more than the rice and stone most of the time and he clearly didn't see the science because it was covered up by the "being worked" icon which is why he didn't prioritize it.
@@Gufnorkian I'm sure that is why he didn't see the science. 11:25 Actually, yes. The size of the map affects the number of available religions. The number of religions is dependent on the (standard) number of civs per map size, with 3 religions for every 4 civs.
Duel map gives 2 religions and increasing map size gives you +1, so depending map size it's 2,3,4,5,6 or 7, huge being 7. So for huge it would be 7 religions for 12 civs, which makes your calculation not correct.

Dear Quil, i do think the Barbarian mode is very interesting (as it makes some barbarian camps turn into City States over the course of the game, keeping them relevant in case of an aggressive AI). It does have a bit of a confusing 'UI' as the buttons to do something with the barb-camp are in TWO different spots. I would advice you to just take some time off stream to fiddle with it some more, so you can understand it better, before dismissing it as a game mode (which I personally think is a loss to actual gameplay).

This map is really interesting!!
# of religions in CIV VI is based on map size. It is number of default civs/2 +1. For large there are 6.
