Despite my cheeky digs at Satisfactory, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that game. I just really, really, REALLY love Factorio. (And Dyson Sphere Program and Foundry and others!)
Oh I get you. Satisfactory is a perfectly fine game, but it lacks a lot of the magic that happens in Factorio and DSP. A lot of form over substance, in my eyes.
I do wish you would give satisfactory another chance now that its out in 1.0. the game has improved immensely, the devs are amazing, and it has matured into a VERY good game. I still prefer factorio myself, but both are amazing games.
I am glad you decided against peaceful mode, several of the planets have new enemy types that work very differently from the biters on Nauvis so I can’t wait to see how you handle them.
About 10 years ago, I learned about Factorio from your first video on it! Thanks to you, I've played over 7,000 hours and was one of the first to play the official release of space age. It's fantastic to watch you play it now, so many years later... the factory must grow!
I like turning off enemy expansion as a halfway between peaceful and not. You only have to clear biters when you want to expand (or when your pollution cloud expands).
I'd like to add, I also have the habit of setting up first, then turning it on. And going big, every. Single. Time. I was witking on getting a 1k spm mega base. So i could start the infinite research. Yea, I never start the infinite research. And as a result, I was playing for months with the pre-max.
Hey Quill, when you have a furnace or assembler open, you should be able to Ctrl click on am empty inventory spot to automatically fill the fuel/production requirements!
Excited to get in on the ground floor of a Factorio series for the first time.

Crafting item to unlock is new, it was in some of the popular mods, remember reading the the lead dev had helped with the Space Exploration mod and there is influence in the dlc
I remember the last Factorio series I saw you play was a Bobs and Angels mod and you sounded so exhausted at the end. Hopefully this one treats you kinder.
The quality mod has to do with the new quality system they added. machines with quality modules in them have a chance to make a higher quality version of the output that get bonuses.
It's funny, I've never been able to get very far into Factorio but Satisfactory has been really doing it for me ever since I picked it up last month. That's why there's different games out there, cos not everyone likes the same things~
To quickly fuel things (or transfer items at all; also very useful for putting ammo in turrets): Hold the item (ie coal or ammo) in your hand. Control left click to put a whole stack in a building. Control right click to put half a stack. Press "z" to place a single item.
If you hold Z it places one item every time the cursor goes over a new thing, which makes loading it into a bunch of things at once easy. Just hold Z and wave the mouse over them a few times.
Oh damn he was way ahead of me lmao Quill my dude. You got me into Factorio so many years ago. I now have 24k hours in it. I've made sure to tell the wife it's your fault. Jokes aside, this game means a lot to me. As do your videos about it. It's good to be back. PS: Quality is an item quality feature. You have a chance to get legendary items that are better, although there's more to it. It's a whole thing. Super cool IMHO. I added just a few QoL mods to my first SA game: rate calculator, factory planner, far reach, squeak through. Bottleneck has almost been implemented into the base game at this point, but in a more diegetic manner. Even Distribution has a crash bug atm, but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon. Take your time, and enjoy the game with as few mods as possible. There's only one first time. PPS: The defence aspect is more of a logistics challenge than a combat challenge. I generally don't enjoy combat in games too much, but the truth is combat in Factorio is very simple. It's mostly about diverting resources from progress, and being as efficient as possible in how you defend.
if you hold the coal and hold z or y it should put one coal at a time you just need to drag the coal over the burners on furnaces, i think you knew that but couldnt remeber the hotkey :D
The first 3 techs are for items which you used to already have unlocked at the start. Think it's part of the 2.0 update and not the Space Age Expansion.
Gonna' enjoy this one. And please do add qol mods, though I'm fine with night time personally. I like the little lights and things. Also, you're gonna' like Satis-1.0. It's really phenomenal, but you should look into QOL mods and blueprints for that one too, its worth it even for the first time.
As ai understand it we're only going up to 12. There's the normal science packs, plus one extra per planet, and a final science pack similar to the old space science pack for infinite research. It's not too bad, though I cannot think of a nice way to maximise beacon use given the amount of belts needed(6 without spagetti).
I dont think factorio had a real update in about a year, they stopped to full force into the dlc final touches. That is also the time they started to produce dlc Friday fun facts. I would look up the QoL ones to see what impoverishments they made and if you dont mind spoilers look up the reasons to go to each planet.
I will say, after first playthrough, I'm really gonna miss the ability to research stuff in advanced as the crafting unlocks are hard blockers in many cases. I really like setting up myself ahead of time and am probably going to get annoyed about not being able to do this for much of space age.
you know what is messed up? i spent hundreds of hours in factory just to set up the first rocket. and the first rocket is, i think, literally the expansion STARTING point Yeah...this is going to take a while
I hate the whole biter disruption to my base building as well. In almost all base building games, if given the option, I end up turning enemies off. Hey - I am busy planning and optimising - what do you mean i need defences?
With attackers, seen a thousand times, done by myself: boring. The new content is more important, especially when you can play through it without the distraction of monsters and their friends. I've had enough of suffering through.
The big stones are not decorations. As far as I know they have always given stone when mined. At one point you thought you had stone from the start but they came from the big stones you mined. You can see it entering your inventory as text when you mine.
The "Factorio is better than Satisfactory" take is just weird to me. They scratch different itches due to the varying style and complexity. That's like saying Stellaris is better than Civ V because the scale is larger. As someone who enjoys both games, I'll play both depending on whether I want to build a visually impressive factory or if I want to spend several hours in spreadsheets trying to figure out machine speeds and craft times.
quality mod. is and official mod that you can put a boosters in assembler and have a chance to have a higher quality item . exp a perfert solar panel could do 80% more power of a regular one. ps i dont remember the actual % .
Despite my cheeky digs at Satisfactory, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that game. I just really, really, REALLY love Factorio. (And Dyson Sphere Program and Foundry and others!)
Going to be great! Upload schedule? I'm sure you know by now but every item now has a tier with higher being better attributes.
Oh I get you. Satisfactory is a perfectly fine game, but it lacks a lot of the magic that happens in Factorio and DSP. A lot of form over substance, in my eyes.
More factorio-type games is better, we love all out factory sims.
Satisfactory is good, but can be frustratingly fiddly at times, though they did add a whole bunch of QoL improvements.
Peaceful doesn't turn off enemies, only makes them non-aggressive. So it wouldn't have changed anything besides how often you get harassed.
@@Patchumz i would change how you approach everything
@@Patchumz making the enemies non-aggressive changes everything lol
Yay! Factorio is how I discovered this channel years ago! Really looking forward to this series!
The nostalgia. I deeply hope this becomes a hundred plus episode playlist. I am here for it.
About 10 years ago, I learned about Factorio from your first video on it! Thanks to you, I've played over 7,000 hours and was one of the first to play the official release of space age. It's fantastic to watch you play it now, so many years later... the factory must grow!
As someone watching from a phone I appreciate the UI scaling! Thanks Quill!
as someone watching on PC I appreciate it too
I like turning off enemy expansion as a halfway between peaceful and not. You only have to clear biters when you want to expand (or when your pollution cloud expands).
Meanwhile, I was playing on a rail world with expansion turned on. My god did that get annoying.
100%
I'd like to add, I also have the habit of setting up first, then turning it on. And going big, every. Single. Time. I was witking on getting a 1k spm mega base. So i could start the infinite research.

Hey Quill, when you have a furnace or assembler open, you should be able to Ctrl click on am empty inventory spot to automatically fill the fuel/production requirements!
That's hilarious. As quil was hovering over the peaceful mode, I was hovering over the close video button. I'm happy he chose violence 😅
Thanks for changing the UI scaling, I am watching on my phone! Love your work
As a mobile watcher, thank you very much for thinking of us with UI scaling
You are the youtuber that originally exposed me to Factorio. Now i have sunk hundreds of hrs in to it.
Thanks!
So excited for this to turn into a long-term lets play. Love scratching that Factorio itch.
Excited to get in on the ground floor of a Factorio series for the first time.
Crafting item to unlock is new, it was in some of the popular mods, remember reading the the lead dev had helped with the Space Exploration mod and there is influence in the dlc
I think I remember it from SeaBlock at least.
Lol spent too many hours on my own little Island🏝️. For some reason it was always the crazy number of gases that was hard for me to keep track of.
THIS is an expansion worth its price.
I believe it’s pronounced Woob, not Wub. Also, you can rotate buildings after they’ve been placed with “r” just like you can before placing them.
So far my major hangup with my play though Space Age is that logistics are locked behind the rocket. :O
I caught that "Combination Taco Bell and Pizza Hut" reference! Can't wait to play the new expansion! Pesky work getting in the way :)
Half an hour gone in the blink of an eye, oh I'm glad I can do some binge watching
@13:40 I always keep the crashed spaceship, also in most of my saves it is also where I locate my rocket-silos.
Yay more Factorio. One of the games I love to watch but hate to play myself. Great to see you cover it again Quill.
I remember the last Factorio series I saw you play was a Bobs and Angels mod and you sounded so exhausted at the end. Hopefully this one treats you kinder.
Younger Quill taught me how to play Factorio too many years ago to think about
Super excited about this expansion!
The quality mod has to do with the new quality system they added. machines with quality modules in them have a chance to make a higher quality version of the output that get bonuses.
Yeah the new research thing surprised me too. Also as of this moment I'm in the top .1% for some achievements
Brand new player here following along and copying your seed to help learn the game. Spent 6 hours on my own not having a clue about anything lol.
It's funny, I've never been able to get very far into Factorio but Satisfactory has been really doing it for me ever since I picked it up last month. That's why there's different games out there, cos not everyone likes the same things~

5:30 Just mouse over and rotate. No need to pick up beforehand.

@@blaxai6485 That's 8 hours a day since it released...
I guess you're one of those that never close a game 😂
Really excited for this series!
This is gonna be amazing.
Anxiously counting down the time until I can get home after work to play.
Thanks for the vid Quill. Have you tired "None Shall Intrude". Up your alley I think.
This day was crazy already, this makes it crazier still. A lot of work and love went into this - I hope you enjoy it :)
Can't wait for more factorio

Nice to see more Factorio again!
Quality based on the site, is a tiered system of items/structures built from normal to legendary.
Thanks for changing your UI scale… we do be watching on the phone 😂

Glad to see a series without an AI thumbnail.
Woohoo a new factorio series
Commenting for the all-mighty algorithm.
I think Quill may get things working a bit faster than Steejo and Arumba did in their streams XD
But will he get rolling faster than zisteau thats the question :P
draven the immortal starting the space age
I need more now.
I'm strapped in, will Quill convince me to buy the game? I'm going to doubt it for this episode
Oh yeah I still need to check out Satisfactory, but I just started Factorio again (because DLC) and still working on DSP
ATTN UA-cam: I like this.
The Steam achievements are disabled when you play with mods, which most people do - probably why very few people have them.
"Comparison is the thief of joy."
Good thing you didnt select peaceful mode... you lose some tech options when you do that. Which is why they made the no enemies option for space age.
Thank you for not putting it on peaceful mode. I would’ve been pretty disappointed
14:25 There are how many science packs in the game now? We‘re reaching levels of belt-weaving that shouldn‘t be possible
As ai understand it we're only going up to 12.

Factorio without aliens - Is like Rimworld without bad events.
Could be fun but its not the same.

UI zoomed in. Cheers.

you know what is messed up?
i spent hundreds of hours in factory just to set up the first rocket.
and the first rocket is, i think, literally the expansion STARTING point
Yeah...this is going to take a while
Nah, its really easy to make rockets now. Should take less than 10 hours casually.
nauvis (starting planet) was refactored to have a much easier start yeah. first rocket is now like, just past blue science or so.
thanks for the clarification.
it does make a lot of sense

Who else is sitting here waiting for the Bitters to attack when he's not ready for it?
I hate the whole biter disruption to my base building as well. In almost all base building games, if given the option, I end up turning enemies off. Hey - I am busy planning and optimising - what do you mean i need defences?
Could have turned on Peacefull mode, you still get enemies but you have to attack them first
MOARRRRRRR!
Do you have to play a game like vanilla factorio up until you have a rocket silo?
Can you use a V.F. save with a rocket silo to skip all of that?
The rocket tech and silo is around blue tech now, so much shorter now
you need to start a new game with the dlc enabled, the tech tree is also different
welp.. looks like I'm a cracktorio addict, again...
Yeihooo🎉
quit whining about satisfactory, we know you dont like it so stop effing complaining about it
