My vote is probably for Rare Breed, but I also think that OGD 114 should definitely be in the bang for your buck conversation.
I agree, if you compare only to bottles in 750mL max size.
If OGD 114 was available in 1.75L bottles, it would probably be the highest value ever & all other whiskey companies should just close shot, hah. Based on current price of OGD 114 of $20-30, a 1.75L should be $35-50. Even at the high end, it would less than Knob Creek 9yr or 7yr Rye, both $55-60 & would be close to WT 101.
In no order: Eagle Rare, Wild Turkey 101, Rare Breed, Old Forester 1920 & 1910, Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Evan Williams bib, Woodford double Oaked, Turkey 101 hard to beat for the price

Those are definitely the staples out there today, though eagle rare is variable due to availability and the price fluctuating

I can't seem to get over the value of Russell's 10 yr. It has great flavor, it's 35 or less where I'm at, and is almost everywhere. New Riff finally made it to the state of OK recently, and i can't believe how good all their stuff is. That single barrel BP rocks for 59 bucks.
Russel’s 10 has been my fav daily for awhile - just love it - can’t agree more!
OGD 114 and Benchmark Full Proof definitely need to be on the list

I really like Russels Reserve single barrel and Old Forester 100. They are reasonable and are full of flavor.
Things must have changed a lot w RR SiB over the last year. Since I started looking in May '24, they are now where to be found over 2 state search, east & west & also an extensive online search. Also, if/when they do get them, they will be priced starting at $90 + tax. So guessing at that price, it's off the value list, unless it's a barrel from Camp Nelson E or F, which would probably be way over $90.
Thanks for all the great content Fred! I’m going with Rare Breed, Russell’s Reserve SB, Knob Creek (the standard 9yr and the 120), OF 100, Four Roses SB, OGD (Bonded and 114), and Benchmark Bonded. Pretty sure all can be found nationwide, so I went with the availability factor in mind too.
Good list but the Benchmark stuff (Bonded, Full Proof, SiB, etc.) is only available in a handful of states. Probably nowhere in the western half of the country.
A good substitute for that, but hard to find, is the Kirkland SiB 1L $30, it's made by Barton 1792, 120P & NCF. From what i hear it's about 80-90% as good as 1792 Full Proof for less than half the $$.

Old Grand Dad Bonded is a spectacular value for an easy sipper/mixer. Right now I am loving Four Roses Single Barrel, decided to pick one of these up instead of chasing Eagle Rare around town for over MSRP and this single barrel might be one of my new favorites!
Wild turkey products from 101 and up, to me are the best bang for the buck!
Although Heaven Hill BIB products are also very good.
I love love love 1792 small batch. I think for 29.99 it’s such a good bottle. Looks great, tastes great and makes a wonderful gift bottle.
Just picked up a 1.75 of Evan Williams 1783 for $29.49. Yup. That's my winner. OF100 is 2nd.
Nice, saw that online for $29.99 in May but missed out. How does the 1783 compare to EW BiB? Know it's 90P, but supposed to be aged a little longer, 6-8yr.
Just got a bottle of Makers Mark 46 French Oaked for $26. Great deal for a good daily drinker.
46 beats a lot of bottles 2-3 times it's price.
My guy has a single barrel, store pick of 1792 full proof for $55. Such a steal. For the price, Wild Turkey 101 and OGD 114 are up there.
I recently picked up some 4R Single Barrel at 36. Amazing for the price. Big fan of OGD bonded or 114. WT101
My most bang for your buck bourbons in order: Maker's Mark Cask Strength ($38 at Kroger here in NKy); Jack Daniels SiB BP ($59 at Kroger); Knob Creek SiB 120 ($59); Rare Breed ($62); Larceny BP (actually my favorite, but it costs me between $73 - $103 here, so...).
Im new to bourbon, but here is my list Wild Turkey 101, Russel ‘s Reserve 10 year, Knob Creek 9, 1792 small batch, Makers Mark 46.
Setting aside the classics that many people have already covered, I think the Green River products are great value.
I think if buffalo trace products actually were available to people everyday without markups they would be all over this list. Only exception I see in my local market is regular benchmark. Everything else I do not see available on the shelf only in raffles or events… even regular buffalo trace is not on the shelves.
I'm going with Old Forrester 100 Proof, Wild Turkey 101 or Jack Daniels Single Barrel (not barrel proof)...all of these stay under that $40 threshold.
I would add Old Granddad 114 as well.

Listen to how weird the pricing is here. In my area, the same 2 stores, 5 miles apart; 1 sells the JD SiB 94P for 51.58. Same store, different location sells the JD Brl Prf $47.18. Hah

Dude. OLD Forrester 100 is without question the best bang for your buck. Its a workhorse. A mixer. A sipper. 100 proof so got some bite. Nothing beats is for the $$. Shout out to EW BiB for #2 value bottle and Bowman Bros #3 @ $34. I have spoken.
That is up there for sure. But since this is best value for $$, it's important to note that it's only on the list (as most) in the 1.75L bottle.
Ex. WT 101 750mL at $23 is not a great value. WT 101 1.75L $30-36 is a great value.
In my area OF 100 1.75L is $42, WT 101 $36 (got for $30 on sale). OF Rye 1L at $26 is not much more than the bourbon & would top the best value Rye list.
Thought there would be more mentions of Knob Creek, 12 yr, 9 yr, single barrel. Pure Kentucky ($35 or so), willett juice, is nice every day value as well.
If I was dead ass broke it would be Evan Williams bib, special occasions would be 4 roses single barrel

I picked up a Driftless Glen SB at WD for $35. It's fantastic, but JD SBBP, Rare Breed, Russell's 10, JD Bonded and Triple Mash are all great
OGD 100 BIB-especially since it comes in 1 liter under $25 here in Kansas City. Also, Knob Creek 9 yr is tough beat at Sams Club for $30.
Yup, in MA the OGD Bonded 1L is $24-25 total (no sales tax). A few years back is was in 1.75L. Very disappointed they don't have that anymore & OGD 114 in at least 1L..
For the Knob Creek 9yr, have to disagree on the value. It comes in 1.75L at $55, or $23.57 per 750mL. Though some say the whiskey inside is currently of considerably lower quality than it was a few years ago.
I haven't had it in a while, so don't know.
I always come back to Rare Breed so that is my vote, but to give BT some love I really enjoy Benchmark Full Proof and you can't beat the price and availability. Cheers 🥃

Old Forester 100 proof delicious, 25 ish dollars here in Alabama and always on the shelf.
I am a big fan of Old Forester Products so their 86 or 100 proof options as well as 1910 and 1920 are great values. I think Woodford's Reserve is a great value especially when I get it in the 1.75 L bottle. 1792 SB is also a great value although the price has jumped a little.
Buffalo trace $26 is hard to beat. Four roses small batch is fantastic, McFarlane’s cask is really great for a cheap cask as well
Benchmark Single Barrel is affordable and available
Good mixer or sipper.

I found a bottle of Bardstown Origin Series Bourbon - 6 year - 36% Rye for $42. Damn good pour!

I'd vote 1792 Full Proof or Old Ezra 7 year Bourbon. They're both around $40-50 but hard to find. But if you do, they are super worth it!
I have to show my love For Wild Turkey 101. For around $21 depending on where you buy, it is so good.
Yup, got a bunch of WT 101 this year for $13.93 per 750mL when buy the 1.75L at $32.50 (all prices total w tax).
That makes Rare Breed almost 4Xs the cost & not sure if it's even 2Xs as good. But will have to find out.

I like both EW BiB and EW 1783 SB. But I picked up some Ancient Ancient Age 10 star and it was darned good, especially for like $28 ...even if it is in a 1.75L plastic bottle 😂
Couldn't agree more with your inclusion of Evan Williams BiB. It has been one of our favorite finds. We discussed the bourbon or not for Jack Daniels as well - we decided you can call it whatever you want and we would drink it :)
Currently getting the EW BiB $25.19+tax 1.75L & WT 101 $29.99 in Feb. Hard to beat that given the financial climate of 2024 (since 2020-21 really).

Rare Breed is around 53 here. Love this pour every time. RR SiB is 65ish and love that pour as well. Always WT101... 33 for a liter here.... WT fanboy but they are all super good value and taste for the money. Allocated is not here at all. In a small town and I probably buy the most bourbon here. Buffalo Trace standard is allocated here for 45ish but I'd rather grab 101 for cheaper

I believe that just about any bourbon in the $25 to $40 range is good bourbon for the money. Elijah Craig, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey 101, Russell’s Reserve 10yr, even Buffalo Trace, etc, etc, etc. All the single barrels and barrel proofs, cost more but good too. Pick one and enjoy. Then on to the next!

On bang for the buck, I'm still going with Wild Turkey 101.
Great question. My best “bang for your buck” whiskies are rare breed, Knob Creek 9, anything from wilderness trail and any of the makers Mark private selections.
JTS Brown since I can actually find it. When I was working in Kentucky a few years ago, I would argue Early Times Bottled in Bond which was Brown-Forman and now Sazerac has allocated that near home.
Now that you mentioned it, the fact that Eagle Rare or Weller SR aren’t on that list is kinda silly. Of course we’re talking MSRP, not secondary, but name a better 10yr bourbon for $40 over ER. Russell’s doesn’t hold a candle to it IMO, and I see that on the list. And Weller SR for $25-30 is better than any wheater that’s double that price. So I’ll go ahead and be the guy who nominates those two to the list
The absolute best bang for the buck out there is Benchmark Full Proof at around 25. Very hard to beat!!!

WT101 will always be my value pick, but I'm loving the new Benchmark releases, particularly Top Floor. Super value low proof.
I make a 50-50 blend of the Benchmark Top Floor and Full Proof botles, yielding a 105.5 proof Benchmark. Easy enough to sip and very flavorful.

A bartender i know fairly well recommend me Russel's Reserve 10. It was in the $30 range . I like it witn the hint of vanilla.
Best bang for the buck is without a doubt Evan Williams 1783, 90 pf, small batch! For a little bit more $$ Knob Creek ( you pick... all are great)!

For the money safe up $80 for seagrass, best rye I’ve ever had and worth every penny. It’s the best unique juice you’ll try.
Eagle Rare and it's not even close. OGD114 is the best for mixing.
Russell's Reserve at $35 is definitely a good bang for my bucks. Also, Evan Williams 1783 at $14 needs some love as well.
At the top tier for a best bang for your buck comparison I say JD Single Barrel BP beats out EC Barrel Proof (and is cheaper), and at the lower end I say ET BiB beats out WT 101 (mostly because you get a liter for less than 750 ml of the Turkey), and at the mid-range I say 4R Single Barrel (which I can still find for $38) beats out Russels 10, but honestly I think BT is so drinkable and I can still get my hands on it when it is around for under $30. Also, you have to consider VOB 90 a strong contender as a great 1.75 liter bottle for $22.
Early Times bib is nowhere near as available as wild turkey 101. It's a regional edition.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. Origin Series- I’ve only had the straight bourbon but it was a hitter for under $50!
