Be sure to check out Neil's video of the teardown and exam of the FiTech unit on his channel: ua-cam.com/video/rmbb_IhoklQ/v-deo.html I've helped Neil on this truck here and there for a few years now, and finally we have a good excuse to cover it on this channel. This video goes all sorts of places, covers a ton of material, and serves as a cautionary tale about FiTech's products/service. To be clear, this was not sponsored by Holley or anyone else, that EFI system is just one I had purchased for myself based on my own product research and we decided to put it on this truck to see how it compared to the FiTech. Neil is reading from a script we wrote because we wanted to get the facts straight and the story in order so that there is no way FiTech can claim this as slander, despite accusations made by their employees. We should be returning to our regular style of programming after this upload, although it may be a few weeks because I need to work on getting the 1978 Firebird in driving shape as a top priority.
@@grandmasmalibu Good info to know! If the Holley starts giving me odd map readings, I will give that a try. I assume the sensor is filtered to an extent, but I could see that causing a rough idle at minimum

It's not slander to accurately report on the quality of a product. I'm amazed any of those units ever work, given the terrible quality of those solder connections. And to think, those intermittently shorting wires are carrying a fairly large amount of current and are just a few mm away from flowing gasoline...
@@kruleworld in addition the person doing the slandering has to KNOW that it is false and is doing it maliciously to damage the other party in some way.
I'm really glad this video came out when it did. We were about to order one this weekend. Ha not now. We'll spend a few more for dollars for Holley. Thank you guys. So many creators refuse to name company's that have horrible customer service/products.
I’ve been looking over efi systems for a few years now, and his interaction with this system is way more common than it should be. You see these issues with the system and customer service with lots of people.
As a business owner myself, It never pays to tick off a customer. If I ever have an unhappy customer, I give them what they want and more. Make them leave happy. FiTech just purchased a crap load of bad press and lost sales. Some companies will never learn.
Hey just an FYI, if a company doesn't fix an issue after going to social media then file a complaint with the BBB (it's an easy process), if they don't give a resolution to your satisfaction then they get a derogatory mark. I had an issue with one of those online teeth straightening companies and in email they refused to do anything about it without charging me hundreds of dollars but after a BBB complaint they said they would fix it at no charge to me if I checked my complaint as resolved, which I did.
I saw FiTech and I knew it was gonna be bad. Worked at a shop that installed them, out of the six we did, 5 we had to replace with Sniper. Had almost the exact same issue on a 48 Ford truck. Sorry to see this happen to him, sucks when you cant trust an expensive product to work as advertised (or at all lol)!
I was going to purchase two FiTech EFI units but now I’m going to look into other options. Thank you for the heads up and sharing. Nothing worse then a company not backing up defective products.
I'm glad I watched this. I understand sometimes product aren't made as they should be or you just get a bad unit. There is absolutely no excuse for bad customer service
A buddy of mine bought an FITech unit when they were fairly new to the market, the first start on it went perfect and for the first 4-5 months everything was great. Then the unit developed this problem where when you shut it off and came back to it a few minutes later sometimes the unit would loose memory and then you would have to re-select everything to get it running again, we tried to fix it, we check and cleaned all power and ground connections with no luck, he just kept dealing with it for about 4 months and then it developed a new problem where it would randomly shut off going down the road, it would restart but it was concerning, then after about a month of that the thing would just flat out either not run at all or only run for a few min so he sent the unit in and surprisingly they were nice enough to warranty out the unit which they determined was defective and they claimed that the new model was updated and improved over their old model, now that unit has been on there for several years with no issues, so the FITech stuff really is hit or miss, you either get a good one and have great results or you get a lemon.
I had the same issue! The high pressure fuel pump (the fuel commander) loses pressure, I watched it go from 60 to 30 to 0 psi in a matter of 30 seconds… unfortunately it’s out of warranty
FI Tech has truly trashed their reputation with practiced indignant indifference to their customers. I've never seen a company try so hard to cancel itself.
It makes me so happy when people share info on bad companies. How many people has FiTech screwed over? Now thousands of people will know to avoid them!
My honest and sincere question is: Why would anyone go with a FiTech over a Holley EFI? Is there any reason at all? Is the FiTech that much cheaper? Or does it have some hidden advantages that the Holley, thats made by a reputable brand doesnt have?
At the time, it was a little bit cheaper and was a little bit easier to set up. Now I think most fuel delivery companies are making pretty similar products with a "set it and forget it" design
To start with Fitech came in and started selling their entry level TBI kits for 700 bucks back in 2016 while the rest of them wanted 3 grand for theirs which basically forced the rest to lower their prices
The aftermarket throttle body EFI the only one that gets good reviews is the Holley Sniper. I was looking into these recently and ended up with a sniper on my C10. FiTech was almost the same price and had less features and not great reviews, Jegs/Summit branded ones had bad reviews for reliability and needed external fuel pressure regulators. Aces Killshot I couldn’t find any reviews of and the only feedback I could find on social media was about orders never arriving or no support from the manufacturer in regard to warranty requests. My sniper I just had to run power, fuel, teach signal, coolant temp and O2. All sensors and/or wiring it came with and it just ran first time… after I hooked the fuel feed and return the right way around.
I've run into this a handful of times over the last couple of years with assorted things. I've had to retrain myself to stop hunting for deals and/or hoarding parts until I'm ready to install them and instead just hang on to my money until nearly the last moment before I need whatever it is. Obviously this is annoying when the supply chain may not have everything you need all at the same time... I've also learned that if I _think_ something isn't working the way I'd like it to work, I need to return it immediately. I have a couple of tools in that category right now that I'm probably just going to end up getting burned on. I've, more or less, just concluded that most things only have a 30 day warranty without a massive PITA.
@@triptheroad It completely sucks, because "every man" hot rodding has relied on amassing parts every paycheck probably since the 1940s and money has a way of evaporating whereas parts typically wouldn't. i always trusted holly on their product because of their history of great service and product. fitech is still new to me but if i ever did a big that require to replace a carb to a efi carb i go for holly then fitech
Funnily enough I know a guy who's forever having issues with his FiTech system on his Pontiac. I assumed he might have incorrectly installed it, but it seems these units are very poorly made. Poor customer service is a big problem; doubly so here in the UK as dealing with US customer service can be a nightmare. This video has ensured I'll never go with a FiTech. What's more they only have themselves to blame!
The Holley is a much better choice. Just a word of caution ⚠️ the throttle body style efi units tend to have a cylinder to cylinder fuel distribution problem when using a dual plane manifold. You may find that it will run better and tune easier if you use a small cross-sectional single plane manifold. Even for street driven only vehicles.
So far so good on the Holley, but this is good to know for future builds! I assume that the MAP sensor is filtered to an extent but I could see turbulent air still causing issues
Your blooper reel at the end was hilarious and he called it. I saw more than one post of why did you do that to a S10 or a turd I read in another post lol
I appreciate the details on the fitech unit. I looked at one for a project about the time Neil purchased his but ultimately decided to stick with the Edelbrock 1405 carburetor. It starts right up and runs so good I just couldn't see turning loose of the money. I'm really glad I didn't now. Chances are it would have been fine, but I've seen enough people who had issues with theirs I doubt I'd ever really trust it. When you're in a 12000 pound truck with a 30 ft trailer, you REALLY don't want to have to call a tow truck.

Wow - so crazy you came out with this video today. Over the last year I’ve rebuilt an ‘88 S10 Blazer head-to-tail, including the 2.8L V6. For the last 5 months I’ve been fighting the tune on a Speeduino DIY ECU using the factory TBI components. I spent the last few days ripping out all of the GM harness and components in preparation for installing the Holley Sniper 2300 I just received last week. Crazy co-incidence!
Damn, using an arduino ECU to run factory TBI injection on a late 80s v6??? That's dedication, I admire the homebrew oddball stuff a lot. I've been planning on doing a coil on plug conversion on my 86 toyota van using some kind of speeduino ecu, hopefully gonna get around to it next summer.

Wow that sucks, I love my last fi tech system. And have recommended to many friends. I've never had to deal with customer service how ever. That is unacceptable from the company. I dont blame you for not wanting to go with them again. I may have to take a better look from now on especially if its something I recommend to others. Wow just wow..
Hey so can we ask Neil to maybe cover the cut he made at the top of the windshield. You rear end someone and your scalped. Just saying. I don't want an abrupt end to this series. Nice to see friends hang out with other good friends. Let's keep the focus you found in the engine bay 😅
I've actually been trying to figure out the best way to cover that, in the meantime I've been wearing a motorcycle helmet when I do take it out, I do agree that edge is a little sharp!
My experiences with FiTech units have been a mixed bag. We installed 1 on a 1968 Camaro with a 5.7 and it worked well for about a week...then it would lose its settings. The second one worked well and it's still working well. The 3rd one was junk right out of the gate. 1 out of 3 we're good. Not a great record in my opinion.
That sniper system is the tits. My dad threw one on his olds 455 in his trans am 2 years ago and it runs flawlessly. He even shorted the internal ecm out by pinching the harness when installing the trans and Holley replaced it free of charge lmao. We just had to pay for return shipping.
2019 I visited both the FiTech and Holley booth. I asked each the same question, "Why should I buy your system vs the competitors?" FiTech guy (visably annoyed) said, "Because ours is better." and did not elaborate. Holley guy: Deep breath, thought about it for a second, and then went into a 15-minute discussion of their features, options, and US based customer service department. Not once did he bash the competition. He sold me on their system even though I have not progressed on my project far enough to buy one. I hear issues from both systems so they probably both have some sporadic quality issues and customer service issues. However, most seem to have user installation problems more often than not. I have also seen and heard positive experiences with both companies.
Omg! Good to know cause I almost ordered one and my luck it would have gone bad and I definitely don't have time to play games over warranty issues! Thanks for sharing and I hope they read your comments to know what being jerks cost them👍
Just in this one video alone, you have told nearly 30,000 people about your experiences with FiTech. It would of been very wise of them to take care of the problem before it got to this point!
these small companies need to keep in mind that even small customers may have media access and that poor behavior will be highlighted for thousands of people to see. This will seriously hurt them in the long run.
I think the funniest part is that a few months after this video came out, FiTech started offering a 3 year warranty (I believe both Holley and Fitech only offered one year warranties at the time). I like to think we forced their hand after they presumably saw this video.
My father and I have a 73’ challenger with a good ole’ 440! We installed FI techs fuel injection and it worked great! Unfortunately the high pressure fuel pump (the fuel commander unit) won’t hold pressure and dies within seconds after being started. Sadly this is a common problem with it or so I’m told… no fix for it either other than replacing the whole pump for $500
I bought a fitech go efi 600 back a few years after they released. The system was on my car for a total of 4 months before I took it off and sold it on marketplace for like $200. I won't even mention the absolute useless tech support they have. After that the car went sniper efi, then a carburetor right before I sold it.
Well we installed 3 fitech efi systems and can‘t really complain. Still running strong. Even if we mistakenly burned our ECU we got a replacement for free (only shipping payed - to germany!) You have to make some settings once in a while but it runs good. That‘s our experience with Fitech, all good

I don't know what happened to FiTech because they made a good unit at one time. There was only one other company years ago and they built a TBI system using GM specked parts. Those things worked well too and were around $1000. Back then Holly also had a TBI system that nobody talks about anymore because it was a complete piece of shiitte! I have one of those that I'll happily send to anybody who wants it for the cost of shipping. It sits on the shelf collecting dust and hasn't moved in years. But they must have finally figured out what they're doing now and I may pony up the money and try one on the same C20 that I converted back to carb after the debacle of the early Holly TBI system.
I removed the FiTech off of my 1986 Camaro a few weeks ago after it gave up the ghost. It decided that it no longer wanted to fire the injectors one day and neither me, FiTech, or my instructors could figure out why.

I realize it's not the point of the video but I love the bent sheet dash and console boxes
Thanks! I will be doing a video on how I put it together, I have actually since done another iteration of the gauges inside the box
Glad I found this I was literally just about to pull the trigger on a FITech for my '92 notch!!
Hard pass
That sniper system is the tits. My dad threw one on his olds 455 in his trans am 2 years ago and it runs flawlessly. He even shorted the internal ecm out by pinching the harness when installing the trans and Holley replaced it free of charge lmao. We just had to pay for return shipping.
Such glowing reviews. Glowing like hot coals.
2019 I visited both the FiTech and Holley booth. I asked each the same question, "Why should I buy your system vs the competitors?"
FiTech guy (visably annoyed) said, "Because ours is better." and did not elaborate.
Love the videos man total enjoying to watch you and your friends keep it up
Omg! Good to know cause I almost ordered one and my luck it would have gone bad and I definitely don't have time to play games over warranty issues! Thanks for sharing and I hope they read your comments to know what being jerks cost them👍
Man the algorithm really screwed me. Can’t believe I haven’t seen a vid of yours in two years. Keep it up brother 🤙🏻
You and Dylan McCool I think would get on great together in videos.
Both of you have a smooth calm outlook I very much appreciate.
It's a shame that Megasquirt and Speeduino weren"t a choice. With the old FiTech body, maybe you could run one of those more reliable ECU.
no doubt you could use the FiTech throttle body with Megasquirt controller in the interior of the car(where it should be) and have a reliable setup.
Just in this one video alone, you have told nearly 30,000 people about your experiences with FiTech. It would of been very wise of them to take care of the problem before it got to this point!
The ending clips are GOLD!!!
these small companies need to keep in mind that even small customers may have media access and that poor behavior will be highlighted for thousands of people to see.
That‘s our experience with Fitech, all good
Thank you for this video, it's important and necessary. People need to know what some of these companies are like.
I appreciate this review of FiTech issues, but I think I appreciate Neil's Spongebob references more 😂
TTR looks like a family friendly version of General Sam. Great video!
Really well done! Thanks for the info!
great outtakes. mustache dude is way more comfortable when the camera is NOT rolling hahaha
Oh I knew it was rolling, was just having fun with it between shots 😂😂
@@triptheroad i guess i meant when it didn't count, like, u were more relaxed ad libbing stuff that wasn't material u were purposefully trying to get for the vid. u kno how having a script and trying to follow it can make someone feel fake and not themselves maybe. u seemed more chill when u were shooting from the hip instead of worrying about a script or whatever. or maybe ur uneasiness in front of the camera was part of ur act hahaha. either way it was fun. and entertaining. and that truck is sick! some dumb fuck hit me tonight and now my '91 toyota pickup isn't as pretty. minor damage tho. i wish i had my yota tricked out like ur s10. ok peace out. stay up, bro.
The hearing protection when he's driving the truck lmao
DUDE I AM HERE FOR THIS
hey hope all is well! it’s been awhile!
I'm watching the wonders of the Holley Sniper EFI and am impressed. However, does anyone know how it compares to the Edelbrock AVS2 EFI?
Man FiTech needs to take a look at the comments section on this video alone and ask themselves "Was this worth not just paying the $270 ourselves?"
With the wiring job in that truck it's amazing that any electronics work
they are wired to work good, not look good 🤣
Thanx for the info, getting ready to buy one myself
Go FuelTech! It’s really good.
Thing is unless you vocally tell someone not to buy their product it's really not slander. it's simply sharing your opinion on a product and your experiences with the company. If you start calling them names or outright bashing their product like calling it a POS then it can technically be slander and defamation.
I Like how he made notes so that he couldn't slander the company but only share his experience from his point of view.... clever
How in the heck did you all get the sign to the old frederick town mall??
stumbled across the right dumpster at the right time, same with a some of the neon in the background (I'm in construction)
@@triptheroad right on! Im in that area. I was like wait a sec! I know that sign!
@@colerippeon3903 nice! I ironically I am in the FredericksBURG area now, but still a big fan of the Frederick area
@@triptheroad damn man small world. My dad lives in spotsylvania lol.
@@colerippeon3903 small world indeed! I love the Spotsy area, just so far from the Maryland/Delaware beaches!
@Fuzzy Dice Projects, when are you going to finish the 454 budget build?
*I've been thinking about going EFI on my 1976 Camaro; I see a lot of benefits but, at the end of the day, I think I am going to keep it old school and just upgrade the manifold/carburetor setup in the future.*
Awesome video. Love the buc-ees hat
Blazer progress! Blazer progress! Get you torch and pitchforks 😂
Thanks for the detail.
"Maybe even walking." Damn.
Thank you for showing disassembled unit. Makes me think, that this technology was copy of finest 10USD CDI modules for 125ccm entry level quad bike, but with expensive 1USD molex connector removed to save some costs
It wouldn't last, in automotive parts under hood wires must have some kind of relief near the ends, and this was example of not giving a shit about after warranty period and about people, that will drive a lot while under warranty. Thy just are sure, that sales will cover replaced units costs
I’m convinced you only own one jacket. 😂
all the company had to do was give this dude another unit free of charge, but they refused. Now, thousands of ppl will never buy their products.
Dan @ DD Speed Shop used an FiTech unit on one of the '57 Chevy's he built. He gave it away to Montana Garage, and he had problems as well. I *think* he eventually figured it out, but I don't remember for sure.
Yea a company can screw me once but never twice. Thanks to this video FITech won’t even get once. I’m planning to put FI on my 74 f100 it’ll be a Holley now. No doubt.
Thank you for another informative and enjoyable video!!! Enjoy the rotation of new people. Adds something to the content that im not quite smart enough to describe. But you're awesome solo as well...lol. Can't wait for the next video. Also, so glad inseen this video!Almost made anvery expensive mistake. Had the Fitech system in an online cart ready for purchase and disappointment. Fan from wash co.😊✌️
Good hat🦫, good wall art 🇺🇸 and good video.
The soldering of those wires in the FiTech! Woah, that's terrible!
When will we be getting another 454/Firebird video?
Mike, we are all uncomfortable looking at your face and hearing words coming out of it at the same time. Sincerely, all of us. Lol
I've heard bad things about the FITECH unit, and the same about rebranded versions sold by big speed companies. This just confirms what I've heard.
systems are very sensitive to vacuum leaks and exhaust leak I've also got a 350 vortec powered by a fast EFI system
I wanted to try one of these units. I wanted a Edelbrock E-street. But I think it's discontinued? And with your news I guess I will not go with fitec.
Yeah, I've heard few victory stories with fitech and customer service.
For the price of the FiTech, the shipping, the return shipping, and the repair, you're just about into it for the cost of the Holley unit.
