    The coat turned out beautiful. I like to slipt projects in doabel tasks as well. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that sewing and knitting are supposed to make fun (it’s a hobby) when beeing focused at the results. When I try to remember to be in the present (not the futur) and switch things by handsewing or working on a sideproject. I also have a hard time to rember to eat/drink and to stretch while sewing so I try to make a habbit: then waiting for the iron to get hot I drink a glas of water and strech.

    You rock: I’ve taken Burda kids 9431 dress to modify it to a princess coat for my daughter. Very similar to what you will be sewing. Your video was second in my feed when I searched. Thank you for this.

    Thin Mints!
    I also have a couple of coat projects I need to get on. I've been procrastinating with other projects all winter! 😂

    Wow, Lauren, you never cease to amaze me! I particularly like how you showed some footage of you sewing in real-time, instead of sped up. I love the speedy scenes because they give me the big picture, but watching how carefully you go through some sections of stitching makes me feel more confident! You did an absolutely wonderful job! Also, Thin Mints and Tagalongs for me! 😍

    Lauren - you did a fabulous job on your coat! It's funny to hear you say that you are amazed that you made this coat - I remember feeling exactly the same way in high school when I made a cream coloured boiled wool coat for myself - I absolutely loved it and wore it for many many years! It was a Vogue pattern and I was so intimidated by all of the steps and pieces ... but, like you I just took it one step at a time .... stayed up waaaaay too late on a school night and got it done! I got so many compliments on it! I'm sure you will too - it's as lovely as its creator!

    Omg Lauren. Your talent is God given. Beautiful work. The coat is gorgeous. What also amazes me is that your garment construction is done on your ironing board. Wow. Love that you film around where you live. It’s looks so pretty. Congrats. ❤️🌸🌺

    OMG, I used to have that exact same old Kenmore sewing machine! It was such an excellent, trusty machine for me for literally 25 years, and it was old when I bought it! Keep it going as long as you can. Your finished coat looks amazing. Great job!

    The sleeve head is to give the shoulder some structure so it doesn’t cave on itself or droop

    Perfection! I just found your channel and I have to say I am hooked. Not only is your content wonderful, you are not super chatty about things that are irrelevant. I also enjoy the peak into your outside world that you include. I find the fact that you don't have window coverings interesting, the natural light that it provides in your space is delightful. You have found the perfect balance VERY ENTERTAINING!

    If you enjoy making outerwear and you're looking for something lighter for spring and summer, I highly recommend trying the Stacker Jacket from Papercut Patterns. I've made it twice and it's a really nice pattern, it's pretty easy and intuitive and it makes a great layer for transitional seasons. Your coat looks beautiful! ...and cookie related, I'm a Lemon Ups girl myself. :-)

    still watching, but the sleevehead's is to keep the shoulder from divoting inward and collapsing in at the joint, for a stronger silhouette. edit: it looks great! you have such a great modern-princess aesthetic. love that machine you have, i'm making a duffel bag currently and could really use a powerhouse like that. if you're interested in making another coat, might i suggest to add in stiff horsehair interfacing at the top chest, sewn in at the seam allowances of the shoulder and neck, to keep the coat from collapsing at that area (bodies have a natural dip at the collarbone area). the inside of tailored jackets are always so beautiful to me.

    I’ve been wanting to make a feminine tailored coat, and I think this video inspired me as to which coat to make! It’s so lovely and beautiful and very cross seasonal! Question, do you use pre-starch your fabrics to help reduce stretching and warping? Especially with the more lighter fabrics like the lining? Thank Lauren, I love your videos and they are so peaceful and calming!

    • @LaurenJohnson
      @LaurenJohnson  2 роки тому

      Thank you so much Amelia! I haven't ever pre-starched my fabrics, but that seems like something I should look into, especially with this type of project. Appreciate you watching! ❤️

    Beautiful coat! Your step by step progress and fabric choice make this daunting project feel a lot more approachable! I’m feeling inspired to tackle a coat as well. Also, did you knit that cabled gray sweater with the baubles? If so, what is the pattern? It’s gorgeous!

    Gorgeous coat! Just wondering how you prepared the wool before sewing. Did you use steam from the iron to pre-shrink or toss it in the dryer with a damp towel or did you wash it gentle cycle? I have some wool fabric I found at a thrift shop and not sure how to prepare it.
