    Thanks for the video. The tip about aligning the motor with the door with the sensors was helpful. In case others are curious. 1) push garage door opener switch and then activate the safety switch (~6 inches above the floor near the rail - break the laser with your foot). 2) the motor will switch directions and then the light will flash a few times (this will indicate it is in the up position) 3) Hit the door opener switch one more time and then the motor will stop in the 'down' position. 4) manually move the chain so the trolley matches up with the carriage when the garage is in the down position. 5) Lastly you can also visually confirm if the contact sensor tabs are resting on the down or up side of the door adjustment screws.

      I believe I did those steps before I put the sprocket on. The moving of the chain is to get things lined up as best you can. After the sprocket is replaced you’ll have a more accurate starting placement as you feed the chain onto the sprocket.

    Excellent video, very clear, very helpful. I have a tip for putting the chain back on the sprocket. Put some spring clamps in the middle of the T-bar and temporarily drape the chain over those. That prevents the big sag in the chain and makes it much easier to pull the chain over the sprocket. My chain was so tight -- even at the loosest setting on the tensioner -- that I could not pull the chain over the sprocket until I did that.

    I just did this, and well, I didn’t do that first step. The garage door was closed, and when we plugged it in, it tried to close the already closed garage door. It stopped right away, and we were able to get the chain with soooo much tension off, somehow didn’t destroy the new sprocket… anyways it’s working now! Now we’ve likely gotta get someone out here to install a new spring.

    I finally had the opportunity on this rainy day change out the gear sprocket. Everything seemed to have gone smoothly but when I hit the open button the trolley only moves about an inch and stops. Tap it again and it goes back to where it was. (It’s not enough movement to even move the door. Also, I don’t have any sensors. It’s an old-school installation.)
    Is it the chain tension or maybe the sprocket’s not lined up correctly? It looks like it is correct.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Місяць тому

      Hello! Thank you so much for this question. I believe it can help the community.
      Now when you replaced the gear sprocket, did you replace any other parts to it? For example like the worm gear?
      There's a possibility that the warm gear maybe the issue. There's also a possibility that the RPM sensor has failed or gone bad.

    • @stevepfenninger7657
      @stevepfenninger7657 Місяць тому

      @@sosgdsI did not replace the worm gear when I replaced the sprocket assembly. When I remove the chain from the sprocket, the gears work smoothly together and it spins continuously.
      When I reattach the chain, there is some slack that I can’t seem to tighten up by hand. When I press the operation button, the motor will pull the chain “up” and the slack is removed. When it travels back down, it does a hard stop at about 2 inches, right at the trolley. Door appears to be in balance, because when I manually lift it up and pull back down it stop in partially down positions.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  4 місяці тому +1

      Hello! Thank you for the excellent questions.
      So it sounds like your travel limits are off. Here's what I suggest:
      1. Loosen the chain and take off the sprocket.
      2. Press the wall button to get the garage door to close.
      3. As the garage door opener internally start to travel down (the door should not be moving), have a family member or friend block one of the safety sensors.
      4. The garage door opener should internally operate back up, blinking or clicking once it's done. This indicator means the travel limit is in the up position.
      5. Run the opener once more, this time do not block the safety sensors. The travel limit should be in a down position.
      6. Unplug the opener, reattach chain onto sprocket, and tighten chain to proper tension.
      7. Power the opener and operate the garage door motor one cycle up and one cycle down.
      8. Adjust travel limits when necessary.
      Hope this helps!

    The plastic gear broke while in the up position. It will not go back down, just buzzes. Can i do the repair in the up position? Or no? I can't do your procedure to have it in the down position before starting the plastic gear replacement since the gear is broke and jammed up. So is it ok to go ahead with the repair, then figure out the up / down position after the repair? This is past-tense now. I went ahead and did the repair and now i only have two feet of travel down then it reverses back (so starts in the up position and moves two feet down the rail and reverses direction with no flashing light). If i trip the electric-eye, it will immediatly reverse direction with the light flashing.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  2 роки тому

      Hello Dabney! Sorry for the late response. The issue you are facing has to the door with the travel limits. Basically your travel limits are off and you will need to adjust so that when your door closes it does not travel further than the floor. This will prevent it from opening back up. Let me know if this helps.

      Hello. I address this issue in a longer form video. You want to ensure where your travel sensor is located. If the sensor contact is in the middle, then you want to power the motor without the chain on. Once it reaches the up or down contact, then that's where you want to place or set your chain.
