This might be my favourite album of all time. I listen to it all the time and always all the way through. So he rewrote Walk of Life (The Bug) and Money For Nothing (Heavy Fuel). The original songs were (and are) a bit embarrassing. It was also one of Jeff Porcaro's last albums before his untimely death. Another legacy of this album is the failed experiment from Philips called the Digital Compact Cassette. The tried to replicate the Brothers In Arms and CD relationship and it never took off.
Nice review! I only have this version on CD and since I have the other Mofi Dire Straits albums, this one is on the way to me as my vinyl version. Agreed on the VH One-Step but many times when I do comparisons, I hardly notice any differences unless one of the albums are all scratchy with physical damage. Cheers
Thanks for the great review Mike! I have the 2014 Back to Black version and think it sounds very nice. I think I'll stick with it and forego the new 45 rpm Mofi as you feel that it's only slightly better. I agree that all the Dire Straits LP's are wonderful sounding albums....I have the Mofi 45 rpm versions of their 1st five LP's, and they are all great. Really looking forward to your review of Welcome to My Nightmare!
New audiophile pressings usually have a much better bottom end. The 45rpm releases reveal more detail due to resolution. 12" singles at 45rpm usually sound better than lp's as far as detail.
Just cleaned and listened to mine today, still not as quiet as I'd hope, some surface noise between tracks. The sound stage didn't hit me as being very wide, very good separation of instruments, and fairly transparent, but a little disappointing as it didn't blow me away. To be fair, I didn't have my system really set up for a thorough and serious listen. Will play again with my tube amp incorporated, speakers spaced properly etc.
@@MikesVinylExperience Gave it a proper listen, ran through my tube amp, pulled the speakers out to their optimal position, darkened the room and warmed everything up. Definitely improved to where I was very happy with it. I'd definitely recommend to anyone that doesn't have a really nice copy.
One of my fav albums, fade to black might be my fav track, unfortunately mine is defective at the beginning of that song, Mo/Fi just sent out a replacement, good people 😎👌
Why would you buy the Album anyway if you didn’t love it ? The best is the best…Simple. The better your system the bigger the difference. Buy and enjoy another class MOFI
I love the album and that’s the reason I bought the mobile, Fidelity. It does sound better than my original, but not by leaps and bounds but it will be my go to when I’m going to listen to the album now I just have to decide if I’m going to sell the other two copies that I have since I don’t think I’ll be listening to them anymore. Gotta love it. Thank you for your comment!!
that was such a great album that they would put it on MO-FI ?? hmmmmmmm ok if those thought it a good idea why not. Suprised MO-FI is still around after that but maybe now they will give us what we want.
Ilike the way you conduct the ranking clear and Simple .
I have the 2014 release and this MoFi release is ridiculously better. I was absolutely floored by the difference.
Well done as always Mike.. Happy Listening!

Great insights! I love that. Thank you. This is a fantastic album and the sound is amazing.

Good point. Some are more difficult to hear differences but a few are more obvious. Thank you for your thoughts

Tube's will likely warm it up very nicely!!

Agreed, I have had few if any problems with MOFI.
I also have the Back To Black double album, also the 2013 studio album boxed set. Not my favourite but as you say hard to pick a loser.
when it is done right at the start it certainly helps. Thank you.
This pressing is next level. Incredible sound.
It’s not an analog album however, digital start is digital end.
So true

We were asking them to do it since they did “Brothers in Arms”.
