Mike, just because it was cut from the same DSD 64 file doesn’t mean they couldn’t have fiddled with the EQ in some way or another in comparison to the One-step which very much feels like a un-EQ’d / flat transfer.
Can you confirm that this new 33⅓ cut sounds spectrally similar to the One-Step and not overly bloated at the bottom nor over the top bright like some (most?) of their recent offerings?
Does it sound like a flat transfer to you?
    Thanks in advance,
    Oz

I need to get this as I foolishly gave away about half of my LP collection back in the '90s when I was really getting into CDs, and my original of Abraxas was one of them. Arrrgh!

I just received my copy today in the mail. I got #1580 and see it is already sold out. I have never heard the one step but the 33 version is indeed fantastic as I listen to it now. Thanks for your review!

Got #438, never heard the 45 either, just the CD. This is a nice pressing and I think MoFi's new pressing plant is doing quiter, better vinyl than RTI.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the 33rpm review. My son has the one step and i have the sacd. You are so correct. The 45rpm is simply in your words,"state of the art". Just imagine starting with a blank piece of paper and creating such a masterpiece as Abraxas.

I have just bought a 50 year old quadraphonic copy from Japan. Compared to the regular version is like a small recording studio versus a big stage. There is better resolution as well.

Pardon me in advance if you covered this and I missed it: When listening at the same volume setting, does the One-Step sound louder than the 33? Volume matching is very important as a louder cut can give the perception of a better sounding LP.

David, Thank you for so much for commenting! Love your channel, hope all is well with you. Actually the one step is a little softer than the 33rpm, I use a decible/sound meter to get as close as I can between the two. The One-Step has more depth and inner detail. The bottom end on the One-Step is more extended. I really do thing this version is simply amazing! But the 33rpm is really, really good and I enjoy it becouse it maintains the flow of the music on the album much better than the One-Step. Thanks again David! Always great to hear from you!

I don't have any factual information on this, but logically thinking. MoFi only has one copy of the Master. That's the tape they used for both the one step and the 33 because they don't have anything else to use. That's the best source they have.
That's the best source anybody has in the world except for Columbia which has the original master of course. I also reviewed the 33 a few days ago on my channel.
I enjoyed your video. Also one of my subscribers let me know The 33 is already on back order
You don't have to do a blind test You're not looking at it you're listening to it my friend.
Thanks again. The difference is 45 RPM versus 33 there's a reason they do records at 45 they sound better.

Thank you Ron! Love your channel by the way! I thing MOFI will do well with this release it is very good and sound great! I think the when doing a comparison the most important thing to do is first be openminded, and then try to get the levels matched as close as possible. I use a decible/sound meter to get it pretty close. Thank you so much Ron!

@@MikesVinylExperience That's right like I said on My last video Bad Company comparison I wanted the Rhino to sound better because it had that Stoughton tip on shiny jacket that I love beautiful gate fold but no matter how much you want it to sound better it just doesn't.
      That's the bottom line.
I listen with my ears not my eyes or my prejudice. Yeah you got to watch the level matching because sometimes better sounding records just have to be turned up a bit more to find out but for the most part like Kevin Gray says the more you listen the more apparent the differences become so don't be afraid to listen multiple, multiple times if you have to to figure out what's going on. And you can tell like I said in a previous video I think it was the Doobie Brothers Japanese original pressing versus the Kevin Gray remaster for speakers corner The Japanese just kept sounding better and I wondered why then I noticed on the dead wax it was very small on the Japanese but on the speaker's corner pressing the dead wax was a lot bigger and so I realized that the Japanese press was cut hotter it's actually louder on the vinyl that's one way you can tell after using me SPL meter I turned up the speaker's corner and yeah it was much better. Thanks for watching my videos I appreciate that very much so glad you enjoy them Cheers bro.

I pre-ordered the One-Step version but was left disappointed and now they sell for silly money. Pre-ordered this 33rpm version but may take a while to arrive in UK. Incident at Nashabur has always been my favourite track, in fact saw Santana at London's Hammersmith Odeon in 1970 when they performed much of the album.

Sorry this company makes the best sounding albums of just about any company out there in terms of sound quality and advanced technology of the recording. People always complain about the price but they don’t understand what you’re getting for the money. It goes back to you get what you pay for and the technology that’s available today is like comparing a space shuttle from the 60s to a new Lamborghini today

They have always done amazing work they got into trouble because of the way they marketed some of the recordings in terms of what was digital and what came from the master tapes but it had more to do with what the public thought they were getting. The top blew off when they said they were going to make 5,000 copies of Thriller from the master tape which everyone knew was impossible base on the age of the original tape. What they really did was digitally enhance small sections sometimes a few seconds of the music that had degraded. As an example Dire Straights Brothers In Arms is all digital and it’s probably the best recording ever made of that album and unless someone told you it was all digital then you would not know. Once that happened you had people claiming they could hear the difference which I doubt seriously because it was such small sampling. These guys are still some of the best sound engineers using the best recording equipment in the world otherwise why would music studios send them there master tapes. People will be able to play these albums 60 years from now if they are stored correctly and they will sound just as good.

@@MikesVinylExperience Will do Mike. Just to clarify - the reason for the disappointment was demand outstripped supply and my preorder for the One-Step Abraxas was never fulfilled. The other One-Step in my collection is Donald Fagen's The Nightfly - possibly the only 3 disc version in existence because of a mess-up in the pressing part. Side four was duplicated on side one so no I.G.Y. on my copy - it took them 3 months to sort the error and send a replacement disc with the correct tracks. Look forward to your updates on the new speakers, looks set to be an ideal early Christmas present!
