Thank you so much! My bass is surprisingly a low cost bass, but I absolutely love it. I think the secret to my tones is mostly in the Amplitube software I use. If you ever get Amplitube, my Patreon has Tone Downloads, so you can use the same tones as I do 🤘🌀🔧
I started with bass guitar 35 years ago, and recently after seeing Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy struggle playing Danny Carey's drum parts, I was on a mission to learn the bass parts (I never fully appreciated Tool when I was in my teens) In learning this, it appears there is one error in the tab itself. Measure 296 has harmonics on the D and G (harmonic G and harmonic C) strings, but the pitch is not correct compared to the recording. While I do see you hitting those harmonics at the 5th fret, my ears tell me Justin's harmonic notes are different. When I replicated those same harmonics on the 5th frets the pitch is high but if those harmonic notes are moved to the 7th fret (harmonic A and harmonic D) they are pitch perfect. That I can't explain honestly. Now I do know this is not a tuning issue because it is only drop D (DADG) the other 3 strings are standard tuning. I also know that my bass is fully intonated.
Thanks for your comment. It sounds like you have a better understanding of this than I do. The harmonic on 5th fret of the D string is a D, just like the 7th fret of the G string. So either way, half the notes are the same. My ears start to play tricks on me with multiple harmonics. If anyone else can chime in, please feel free! Either way, I appreciate the help! 🙏🤘
It will be tough, but definitely give it a try! If it's fun, keep going. If it gets too frustrating, try something easier. Pushing yourself is the best way to get better.
@@RockinTabs yes I tried it.. it is a bit difficult for me right now. But I’ll keep trying. I’m a self learner and very thankful for the videos you post! :)
@Bonniesayshi wow, I just checked out your channel and I'm so impressed! Hard to believe you're only on day 16. You are so good already! Come back to this song later. But if you want a Tool song for now, I think Stinkfist would be a great one: ua-cam.com/video/H2ymr-KZck8/v-deo.htmlsi=BWsrW4tmcAo_yrCL Keep up the great work and let me know if I can help at all.
I'm using a simulated version of a Boss DD3 - Digital Delay pedal. My tones are created with Amplitube, a computer software that simulates pedals, amps, cabs, racks and everything else. My Patreon has a detailed tone guide of all Amps, Cabs and Pedals I used to create this tone, as well as a Tone Download of the exact tone I used. Though you will need Amplitube to be able to use my Tone Download.
I believe Justin uses the Boss DD-3 Digital Delay pedal. I have a Tone Guide available for the tone I use, as well as a download of the tone for Amplitube, available on my Patreon at patreon.com/RockinTabs
Darn...which idea is it with such a complicated bass line? Justin? Maynard? But I love it....turn fully up back home and shock all my neighbors when I hit the dropped d....lol. Good job anyway, I know how hard it is...
Thanks so much! The rest of the band always creates music first and then turns to Maynard to add lyrics. Only once the music is pretty much finalized. I'm guessing this one started with a Justin riff 🤘
@@RockinTabs Pneuma is one of my favorites from Tool. I have got the Fear Inoculum Deluxe vinyl and it sounds great when I start the turntable with a big stereo set with a deep warm Bass. 🙂

Can I pick this song on my day 16th of playing bass? Or it can be tough?

@@RockinTabs thanks a lot! It meant a lot that you took time to check out my progress. I’ll try out stinkfist soon! 🫶🏽
Slowly ….dont get discouraged. This is not an easy song to play
Can I ask what brand delay pedal you’re using? I would like to get one like your sound as I don’t have any. Thx

For this song he uses the Providence Chrono delay.
