I still return to this poem, over a year after i first watched it. It still has the power to move me to tears. Liza Garza you are so incredibly inspiring!!
I absolutely love this woman's strength and how she delivers it through her spoken word. I had the honor of sharing a stage with her in Pontiac, MI and Wow... In person she is even more intense. She speaks from her passion and it goes into the hearts of those who have the ears to hear. Many blessings to Liza Garza.
I love this poem, she couldnt said it any better, because i know what it feels like to loose your everything, because im forced to remember late november when i loved him and i lost him
m. she could be talking about rims. thats why i like her because she makes you think and she has the most amazing voice the first time i heard her sing was at th e hip hop olympics in detroit she was standing in the middle of a poetry cypher, rappers , dancers etc and she started singing in this loud voice. some song in spanish. she's a little tiny thing and everyone was just amazed. very sincere and generous spirit.
This was a hot poem!! One of flintowns finest, and i do agree i feel as if the editing took away from the poem. censorship is a slippery slope and poetry should come from the soul, if u don't agree don't listen!
I don't usually do this,i.e, respond to comments but... I had to respond a year ago for the same reason... So... for those of you who recently commented (as those of you in the past)or "asked" (more like, accused) why I edited out the word Bismillah.I DID NOT EDIT ANYTHING. She said it TWICE, not 5 times as something LIED about.The first time, the video glitches(not my fault) the second time at 2:20 she clearly says it in a whisper. For me to edit that out would be saying that (see next comment)
King had a LOT more people assisting him in civil rights, than just him. Read some history. It was Johnson that help enable the 1964 Civil Rights Act. many people had a hnad in it, regardless of inspiration. As far as this girl goes, heartfelt sentiment (aka:idealism)isn't enough, it always takes action. Action speaks LOUDER than words,remember?
she's talking about the street 'i.e. 18 inches is the length of a side walk square. and then she talks about hwo the streets are calling people including her sons and how she's trying to 'make the streets seem less sweet' and sway them with currents that run deep enuf currents ...thoughts feelings and the tears of victims captian literal. wrap your brain around it
febreze354 wanted to keep all those out because they want to censor Islam. I did expalin she is saying In the Name Of God...to help her get through this, and that added soooo much more to the poem. Salaam (peace)
@febreze354...I'm glad you posted this video. But why did you edited the video? Why do that? This is her poem and she is exrpressing her soul and pouring her out out and you edited. That wasn't cool at all,but I'm glad you posted the video.
I Think the presenter of this poem, Liza Garza, did a tremendous job at performing this representation of the city of Detroit. She used her tone and body language well to emphasize the city of Detroit and how it is falling apart. Great Job! She did kind of get a little complaining in with her tone of voice but not a lot to where it was a problem, overall it was a good poem and good performance.
One of my favorites 💔

i saw her here in austin.
the original one is one the page "Liza Garza"
She came to my school.
she's talking about the street 'i.e. 18 inches is the length of a side walk square.

@Abel1987 sweat off my brow nd considering she wrote the poem herself she may have wrote it but if she diddnt you can google it nd prolly find it
febreze354 wanted to keep all those out because they want to censor Islam. I did expalin she is saying In the Name Of God...to help her get through this, and that added soooo much more to the poem.
Salaam (peace)

I meet her, she came to my university.

@febreze354...I'm glad you posted this video. But why did you edited the video? Why do that? This is her poem and she is exrpressing her soul and pouring her out out and you edited. That wasn't cool at all,but I'm glad you posted the video.
She said and RIPs.....the streets are calling me
like the was she says her words the way she talks its different to me but i like it...if that makes any sense..?
At 2:21 She says Bismillahi silently.
Why is the part when she says "inshallah" cut out of this??????
@Ratseeker Oh, okay---thanks.
2019
@IShedLight
Why do you think she is being dramatic?
