It is almost impossible to stand still at a Status Quo concert. Rick Parfitt with his driving rhythm is amazing and Rick always seemed to be happy playing. Nice guy too.
@@josephbuckley5961 Hardly, but I did not speak as much to Francis when we met. I have seen Quo live 4 times, the last time was in a castle Switzerland in 2011 if I remember correctly.
I've seen Quo many, many, many times over the year. Too may times to recall , and Rick NEVER EVER gave anything less than 110% on stage. And on the Frantic Four reunion tours in 2013 and 2014 the man was literally ON FIRE ! Playing all those early/mid 70's numbers and loving every minute of it. So sad to think it has been nearly 8 years since he left us. Miss his music and that smile.
Simply great! I always admired not as much much the guitarists who play solos all the time but rather those who can hold a rhythm tight and exact but also groovy and rolling. It is not hard to play "Scream-shred-diddle-whistle" all the time, but to hold a rhythm and hit simoultaneously with the rest of the band is another story. Guys like Parfitt, Townshend, Young (Malcolm!) and the like are extraordinary. They seem to have metronoms built-in in all parts of their bodies and souls. Go Rick!
Pure magic, I'm still devastated and gutted, just can't believe you passed away. All classic Quo intros and Rick's riffs are masterpieces. Your music will live forever.
Been a quo fan for a million years and seen them loads of times.... Rick Parfitt has always been my fave rhythm guitarist.... 3 chords, there have been thousands of songs written with only 3 chords..... If you don't like them then don't listen to them..... Keep on rockin Quo....
Three chords, utter nonsense, Quo could stand above most top bands as guitarists, Rick's tunings were brilliant,, anyone who can only hear three chords has no ear for music, are you sure it was Status Quo concerts you were going to
This is absolutely wonderful. Rick makes this look so darned easy. Superb music just with this one video, well done Rick you made a whole lot of people so very happy with your skill on the guitar, and I am sure still do and always will.
The by far best rhythm guitarist ever. You ask any of these so colled house hold names to play this and i quarantee they will come close but never able to match, the guy has such a unique way of playing. The Quo sound stands alone. Easy ? Yeah thats why no other band sounds even close to them or tried to copy The one zillion bands out there these days are, lets be honest, all similar in sound. Unique !!
It is recognized by other musicians. People who know what they are talking about rated Rick Parfitt high as a rhytm player. The stuff he played was not difficult but to play it the way he did was very hard.
What a player see these at Malvern winter gardens many years ago back in the early 70's they was blowing the tiles off the roof great day's. Those was the day's few beers at the unicorn with the old gang some are still here some have gone RIP 💘 Live Fast Die Hard Your only here once
Marvellous Rick, One of the reasons to get involved with guitar playing is to have as much good feeling as possible and Ricks playing always have the enjoyment thing about it. Bullocks to the 3 chord non-sense, have you ever like a song more just because it had 4 chords ?? Thing is, there 3 or 4 different elements of competent guitar playing shown here that take time and skill to master, and believe me Rick is THE master..... love the bloke....
This guitar riff has to be the best ever!!!! Hold You Back from the album is fantastic but lets face it , without the vocals its OUT of this world!! YEs Parfitt is "god"
Sitting their for hours left alone in the studio.... mystery song and and a year later hold you back, how much good songs status quo have. Their music always were the best to me, it looks quiet easy and its yet so dynamic and difficult to play if you not play it from the heart, like rick sayed. You have to keep it driving, i know thats my roule, so he knew what he was up to.👍👍👍👍
I wish he was my guitar teacher! God, I could never play it that incredibly well in a million years. Good, but far from what he can do. Status Quo is the best band still around, and there's a reason that after over 40 years they're still together :) Fantastic charisma on stage, and the nicest people!
I met rick 2 times once at carrow Road in 97 and then at 2013 at the frantic 4 gig. I told him thank you for finally doing this as it helped me a lot and makes it less complicated watching him. He was ever so pleased had a huge smile, and told me to keep at it and soon I could do it with my eyes shut. He was actually planning on doing more than these songs on here but he said he was limited on how long the dvd can be.
Quo might be called three chord bashers, but the music far exceeds a lot of other bands, Rossi's lead guitar is amazing, unlike lots of other twiddley guitar players
Tom Alexander Agreed! My theory is that more than 95% of people who call Quo's music "basic" and "easy to play" fit into one of 3 groups: non-guitarists, guitarists who play the songs completely wrong and then claim that they're simple, and people who've never heard anything outside the top 10 hits (just think of "Gerdundula", "Slow Train" or "4500 Times".. all songs for advanced players only when played properly! I've never been able to play Gerdundula at more than 80% of DOTH record speed no matter how much I practice.. It's those bloody hammer on/pull offs in the middle of the "solo" that get me)
What can I say? There was never a band Like Quo, Not even a little bit Close to Them...they owned that shuffle Thing complete on their own. To me, followed the band for many years, IT was Always Parfitt and Lancaster, WHO kept the band rockin....Francis was Margherita Time.....
Wow. I thought Rossi was playing the single notes at the start and in the bridge and Rick just did the chunka chunka chords. It’s all fuckin’ Rick! Fantastic. I’ve even seen them do it live, and I got that wrong.
Francis joins in with Rick for the intro lick and then has his riff in D which is his own whilst Rick plays rhythm and then they swap with Rick playing the lick and Rossi on rhythm
It is almost impossible to stand still at a Status Quo concert. Rick Parfitt with his driving rhythm is amazing and Rick always seemed to be happy playing. Nice guy too.

Rick was one of the best holding a steady rhytm for a couple of hours. Maybe the best (with Malcom Young).
Definitely.. i think you know what you‘re talking about🎸🎹
Always loved Rick Parfitt. The epitome of Rock Star with the chops and the looks. Sad he's no longer with us.
thats the guy you want in your band to keep it together. rip Rick.
Rick and Malcolm two great rhytm players

It was just in last December I started to appreciate Rick Parfitt as a guitarist, these days I just adore him :-)

You claim to be a fan but the go on to perpetuate the 3 chord slur. Practically none of Quo's songs have only 3 chords. Did you even watch this video?
The 3 chord myth was only ever touted by people who can't play guitar at all.
But more than 3 chords. They do 6ths and Diminished m7ths too!

Yep..a fine example of a major pentatonic riff!, which gives it an Irish/Scottish jig type feel as opposed to the usual minor pentatonic bluesy songs.

@RobinFreakTom it makes the guitar's pitch higher. One fret represents one semi-tone.
