I play and am wanting to get better at rhythm guitar. Been looking for good rhythm players and here I stumble on this guy. Phenomenal! I love my lead guitarists like everyone but this guy is crazy and really highlights the importance of having strong rhythm! Love it!
If you think you learn this in 30 minutes, FORGET IT. Looks easy, but it isn't. Respect for fellas like Rick to create riffs like this. Forever top 100 Classic.
Rick is , the best ,drivin guitarist of the world ! Rossi said , on rehearsels , he plays the Caroline intro , on and on , for an hour without mistakes , Like a train ! As straight as it gets ! Francis and Rick and the boogierock , I saw it 40 times !! Heartbreaking !!!
Awesome to see it close up... I definitely never played it that refined in our band but our humble version still really rocked the crowds anyway. Love all the great riffs from Quo!
i must be one of the minority of my generation that actually love stuff like this, fair enough i'm a guitarist, but still, this is just amazing, and Rick is the god of rythm guitar!
Iam no guitarists but it doesn't look easy keeping up the same rhythm with cord changes for 4 minutes, like Caroline and that's a faster tune hats off to rick well done lad ...
Rick, amazing guitarist. To be better at rythem than rick would be impossible. To be better than Status quo, is definatly impossible. Helped me alot, thanks.
@XxMJJladyxX I remember seeing a picture of Rick Parfitt's impressive guitar collection, back in the 1980's. Must have been about 100 or so. Although he generally plays his gigs on Telecasters, he's got guitars in every shape and form you can think of.
quo are the fucking best!! rick is the best rhythm guitarist in the world period never mind rossi's lead, sutch an awful shame the original drummer isn't alive and still playing
Every Tab or chord post I have seen on this song has the opening progression as Dsus4 ===> D. If this is correct how can this video be drop D tuning when Rick is fretting the 4th fret on the top E string for the Dsus4 and not the 3rd fret? Unless he has detuned both E strings.
Went to see these guys yesterday on the final night of their tour, and they didn't play this, or rockin all over the world! how bad is that... but the gig was awesome though...
Can someone please do a Francis Rossi Quick Licks DVD, maybe a 12 Bar Blues progression in the key of C x6. Ive seen Quo 6 times and Francis' improvisation skills and phrasings never cease to amaze me :)
Of course this is has the lowest string de-tuned to D, the F-E-D rundown at 0:24 shows this, as does the build up from 0:32 to 0:48; just look at the picking on the right hand in the insert at bottom right, he also gives it away in the final bit of noodling where you can clearly see him hit the bottom string.

Which tuning is Rick using here? I know it's dropped 'D' 6th string but I'm sure the others aren't standard tuning just going by the fingering.
