@@redesignedbynina thankyou so much! Yes! That's exactly what the client wanted to do. Maintaining the memory of the piece but bringing it forward to match her style in her own home. Thankyou for watching!
That looks absolutely beautiful. Thank you for not going with the paint wash. I'm a lover of natural wood and you did this piece justice. It will be loved for decades. I'm sure!
@donnasee5195 thankyou! Yeah the paint wash we started with just was not the right fit at all for this piece. I'm so glad I reversed course on that! Thankyou for watching! ❤️
Your patience and attention to detail is wonderful. I love the piece and the legs and hardware are easily changed out. Everyone has different tastes but the actual refinished piece is lovely. And i love the more modern look!
@lindarahmeyer2668 my thoughts exactly! If she gets tired of the legs or hardware she can swap them out. It's not my vision- I just do what I can to bring it all together for them!
You did a fantastic job, especially with ALL of that rework on the stains. That style is just my favorite and I wouldn’t have wanted it changed. But if the client is happy and you are happy that’s what matters! 😮
Thankyou! Yes, art deco is a favorite of mine for sure. I love that the client wanted to go lighter and simpler with this piece by removing the off green colored patterns and simplifying the hardware. She's extremely happy with it.
I restore furniture, myself. I’m very meticulous and never rush through with a cheap spray paint job for a quick buck or anything like that, so I’m speaking from experience here from one restorer to another. I just came across your channel and I don’t understand the hate for the hardware and legs- you did an amazing job on this piece! It’s gorgeous! I suppose no one in the comments have had a beauty makeover- bcuz you gave this piece a wonderful beauty makeover and made it a good 20-30 years younger! I’m sure your client must just love this- I certainly do!!! 💖
Thankyou so much! I love your perspective on it. You definitely get it! She is so thrilled with it - she can't wait to get it home! Thank you for watching and welcome to my channel! 💖
Awesome job. It looks totally amazing as usual. I can say it does feel odd coming out of your comfort zone when it comes to doing the furniture style you enjoy doing. I think that's why I will do whatever looks good and is free. I like free because they usually need a lot of work. I can't wait to see your next video.
@rnspowell I like free too :) I enjoy working on client projects too because they definitely keep me on my toes, constantly learning and challenging myself.
@lorettataylor3374 aww thankyou!!! I was so unhappy with it the first time around. It was definitely not something I produce on the regular and was not going to give it to my client u til I was happy with it! ❤️
@fiveheartsrefinishing thanks for the lesson. Scott over on fixing furniture suggested the "furniture bible " to me when I asked about furniture origin.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing! I'll have to look for it and add it to my growing collection. I just recently ordered a book from the UK...how to date furniture. An easy reference guide. It's being sent by "royal mail" 😆 so I'm still waiting for it!
@@fiveheartsrefinishing Regarding your question about the style, it is Art Deco (if drawer pulls are original). No Art Nouveaux elements, that style had lost prevalence by the 1930s. The busy top trim motif seems to indicate it was a transitional piece.
It is Art Deco, not Art Nouveau. The faux bois curved section was beautifully done. It was probably an upscale piece of furniture when new. Good job on the update!
@murlthomas2243 wonderful! I had no luck at all finding any information on this piece - so the little that you've provided is helpful! Thankyou and welcome to my channel!. Thankyou for watching!
Wow it’s Gorgeous !!! I learned a lot of new tips on this video, so helpful. Did just use the gray and early American stain right ? And what was the stuff you used around the glass ? Thanks
I ended up using 3 stains after all. Classic Grey, driftwood, and a provincial which gave me the end result color. I tried the grey and early American together, and it just wasn't enough color change, so I had to adjust. The caulking I used for the glass is a product I picked up at my building supplies - it's clear and was perfect for securing the glass without being noticeable
@@estm7481 I kept the original hardware for myself ;) I actually like it to - I'll for sure give them a clean and use them on a different piece! Thank you for watching ❤️
I don't think this piece of furniture has any art nouveau features, it's pure deco, and not of very good quality. However, it is quite nice and I think you did a very good job with the color. The result brings out the best in the piece of furniture and adds to its appeal.
I was stumped by the look of the piece as well - the reason I mention art nouveau is because of the edging detail. The art deco era does have that too...so I feel like this piece kinda sat somewhere in the middle of those eras in the 30s and 40s. No makers mark on it makes it a mystery! Thanks for watching :)
This isnt Art Nouveau, nothing like it. Art Nouveau is characterised by its focus on nature, and pieces depict often stylised images of plants and animals/birds. There is none of that here. The patterning is more characteristics Art Deco, which emerged in the 20s and 30s
This is not Art nouveau, a 19th century style in decoration and architecture based on strong references to nature, particularly vegetation. Art déco takes place in the first decades of the 20th century inspired by industrial, geometric design. Your piece is clearly Art déco.
Thankyou! As this piece is for a client - it's up to me to try to bring their vision of the piece to life :) I will always share my thoughts with a client to help them through the process, but at the end of the day - the final decision is theirs :) 😀 thankyou for watching and Welcome to the channel!

Phew. Quite the ordeal and learning experience! Great final choice for natural (light) finish.

Thats definitely a new term for me. Faux Bois. The "false wood" you're referencing is the designs on the front and small curves?
@ yes
It definitely had it's time at one point :) are there any specific makers that you know of that were building/designing these?
