I have that exact same armoire hiding in the back of our house. I've hated it for nearly 30 years, but was my (truly wonderful) mother-in-law's and my husband would never let me let it go. Now I have hope...
All you need is a little vision. I "inherited" a dresser from my mom with a missing drawer. It was a complete disaster but it looks beautiful now and right at home with my Ethan Allen furniture. My mom would be thrilled with how it looks now, which makes me happy. That's the whole point, right?
In the 60’s-70’s we called this dark, heavy, ornate furniture “Mediterranean Style”. It was really popular for a while - looked good with shag carpeting 😁
My friend and I, we have been friends for over 30yrs. We catch up every fortnight and crochet, which is our passion and we watch your videos together while crocheting. It's a perfect way to spend a day together ❤
THIS is a highly valuable demonstration of what is possible. Beyond refinishing and instead remodeling furniture without a wood shop. Your videos are SO awesome.
My OCD was getting triggered when I saw you put silver screws into the bronze hardware. I got a secret smile when I saw you add the color to match them. Thank you for being so detailed! You made my morning. ☀️
We have my son's old 80's bedroom set that we bought super cheap for him to use in his college apartment. It has all the extra pieces on it like this one, and I have struggled with how to deal with it. Now I know!! Use a dremel, after we buy one first. And, buy a sander that takes the padded sanding paper. And, use Fusion paint. So many great tips for us!
That turned out just beautiful, Katie. I was feeling your joy when you cut the centers out of the drawers and it actually worked! I was cheering you on. Great job!
I have a bedroom set that is similar to this style.....what you've done is brought the piece into the present..... it's gorgeous. The simplified version and the colour....I love it. Watching and listening to you with my morning coffee, about to start my day. You give me so many ideas. About 40 years ago (before I had my children ) I restored several pieces and am looking forward to getting back to it sometime this coming year when I retire. Thank you for your inspiration.... you're a doll! 🥰
I did a lot of this in my younger years, how peaceful and pleasant to watch. Caught myself blowing a little bit at the saw dusty scenes, just like old times. It was a joy to watch, thank you.
I used Wellington on a dresser and spray-painted the pulls a pebbled copper color. Sold immediately! And then the people that bought it gave me two of their dressers to paint just like that one. Such a beautiful color!
Katie, my dad was a furniture designer who specialized in traditional design. In the late 60s he had to do some “Mediterranean “ furniture and I think he would appreciate what you have done to save this piece. Thanks for sharing.
You did a very nice job. Truthfully, I love big bold ornate furniture, painted bold colors with gold leafing.. Reading through the comments, The masses seem to agree with the contemporary outcome and paint color. .. so you know what people want and I'm sure it sold right away! Lovely!
The sun hitting the chest really highlighted the beautiful paint color. Great choice. Your staging is simple but spot-on. What a stunning piece. Good job, Katie!
Wonderful job Katie! Very versatile piece. Would work in a dining room to a sewing room! You took the crappy part of the 70s out of it and made a masterpiece! 🤌
I wasn't quite sure what you were envisioning when you left the big plastic ornaments on the doors but wow!! It took my breath away when I saw how they turned out on the finished piece. Just amazing! I always know I'll love the finished project on whatever you're working, Katie, you have never disappointed. Thanks for taking us along on the journey! ❤
I have refinished a similar cabinet for a woman to store her yarn and crochet/knitting supplies in. With some paint and hardware these pieces can look so good in a home. Beautiful job❤
After a trip to Spain, my parents filled the house with all of this line of furniture. I have 2 wall units but the rest is long gone. Your finished results look beautiful!
I only wish I could afford something like that. Its gorgeous! Years ago, before I became disabled, I would have loved to do what you do. Watching you makes me a little jealous I have to admit. Beautiful work!
I am always anti paint, it grinds my nerves but I have to admit on this piece it’s beautiful. Removing the outdated plastic pieces and painting it the color you did, really transformed this piece. Beautiful! ❤️👍🏻
7:06 I'm so glad to see you conquered this piece by removing the plastic molds, because I have a similar piece of furniture And I was wondering how to modernize. Thank you
My mother had this as a bedroom set. Late 70s. Early 80s It was BIG. First time using queen size bed and the dresser took up a whole wall in her bedroom. It was built for the McMansions. I'm glad you are doing this piece. For others coming across these pieces. Good job.
Love that color! I really like that you explain what you're doing and why. I've always wanted to be able to use tools and hardware and you make it seem doable. Growing up in the 50s, women weren't allowed to learn shop skills so good thing we can now go to platforms like yours to acquire them!
This one is really a good example of how the smallest changes can have the biggest impact. I love the way it turned out, and that color is really beautiful. 🥰
I love the new look of this piece of furniture, and as you know, I love the colour green in any shade, so this one is at the pot of my list of favourites
What a nice piece. It reminds me a lot of my husband’s highboy that we bought in 1970, along with a long dresser and 2 nightstands. Simpler, because we didn’t like the plastic “carved” features and sets with actual carved fronts were way out of our price range. Instead of the carving, it had molding on the fronts similar to how your bottom drawers looked after you redid them, but inset with woven caning. Great job on this piece. It looks really nice now!
Wow, Katie it looks outstandingly gorgeous! It's amazing at how much better the cabinet looks by removing those plastic pieces! The color is perfect and the hardware really adds that extra pop! Beautiful transformation job! You're the best! 😊❤
I remember the heavy, dark furniture with gaudy plastic trim. I think we called it Spanish Mediterranean. I loved it for awhile, then I couldn't wait to get rid of it (including the bright red crushed velvet sofa). 😄 Your reimagining of this piece is much, much, much better! It looks great!
I can almost see the shag carpet the dresser used to sit on! Much better now! I have a cabinet from a similar style i have been completely stuck with. Feeling inspired!
AMAZED at the difference! You did an excellent job. Really good flip! The only thing that I would want if it was mine, are some sort of feet. Such a good job! 👏🏻

I remember it well. 😂 Was never a fan. But I love her remodel.
I had forgotten all about Mediterranean. So right. It never personally appealed to me but Bassett was a nice brand.
I had a set!
very interesting. I wondered about this style, and it was so mainstream.
American made. Then we lost all our manufacturing.
My friend and I, we have been friends for over 30yrs. We catch up every fortnight and crochet, which is our passion and we watch your videos together while crocheting. It's a perfect way to spend a day together ❤
That sounds so nice. ❤
I ĥ&uùuuuuuuuuuùī😊

We have that same bedroom set from when we were married in 1973. I've wanted to do something with it, now I have your ideas to use!! Thanks
I love that you didn’t remove all of the trim…the pieces you left balance the large doors with the chunky drawers below. Beautiful piece!
Having coffee and watching Katie. Perfect start to my weekend! Thanks!
Same!! I could watch her 24/7
Me too. Having tea w Katie!!!!! So cool.
same! It’s fascinating to watch her work, she’s so creative!!
Great update!!! Nice colour too.
Love Katie!

You are very observant! It’s the little details that make a big difference!

Make sure to get a real Dremel brand, they just last longer.
@@shamrock4500 Thank you! I started looking at them and was overwhelmed. I think it would be a very versatile tool!

That’s amazing, I love that you’re getting repeat business!
Gorgeous Color choice! Fabulous Makeover from Outdated to “I want it!”
It made me happy to read your perfect description of what Katie did with this piece!
Those drop handles u picked are awesome and I am excited u got those plastic panels clean off drawers nice!
Katie, my dad was a furniture designer who specialized in traditional design. In the late 60s he had to do some “Mediterranean “ furniture and I think he would appreciate what you have done to save this piece. Thanks for sharing.
I have a piece of furniture like this, inherited from my husband’s grandmother. It is wonderful for storing lots of sewing and craft supplies.
You did a very nice job. Truthfully, I love big bold ornate furniture, painted bold colors with gold leafing.. Reading through the comments, The masses seem to agree with the contemporary outcome and paint color. .. so you know what people want and I'm sure it sold right away! Lovely!

Having lunch on a Saturday afternoon watching Katie while she works her magic is always the highlight of my day.
You are so inspirational. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Beautiful piece ❤️
Wonderful job Katie! Very versatile piece. Would work in a dining room to a sewing room! You took the crappy part of the 70s out of it and made a masterpiece! 🤌
Great job, removal of decorative overkill really updates it.
Impressed
I held my breath with the dremel!! The GOAT wins again! That was awesome!!

My parents had that exact same chest of drawers back in the 70’s. This brought back memories
This is the type of zen content I needed today! I happily subscribed as well. Your channel is a joy!

Great job in removing the plastic trim. Turned out very well, attractive and useful piece of furniture!
Stunning!! I held my breath as cut the plastic off the veneer. So glad it work out. So pretty!!
Great refresh. It's always a pleasure to enjoy your habilities, knowledge, and creativity. Really!
Classy. So much better than the over-ornate original finish. Love your eye for detail.
Loved the soft scream moment when it worked!!!
Haha! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😂
Love your projects Katie. You are looking wonderful. Good for you
AAaaa! I did it! I did it. I honestly enjoyed the genuine happiness you felt for your success.
Well Done! Glad you saved the fancy doors. Removing the drawer panels and new hardware makes it look much less over-the-top.
After a trip to Spain, my parents filled the house with all of this line of furniture. I have 2 wall units but the rest is long gone. Your finished results look beautiful!
It’s always fun to bring back the pieces that bring good memories!
I love the music, really relaxing. It makes me feel like I am in a warm and cozy cafe.😊
What a great idea! I hate seeing these old pieces but still perfectly usable, just thrown out. Those drawers were nice!
I only wish I could afford something like that. Its gorgeous! Years ago, before I became disabled, I would have loved to do what you do. Watching you makes me a little jealous I have to admit. Beautiful work!
Had my doubts. You pulled it out at the end. I grew up with furniture like this (hate it) but it looks so much nicer! Thank you for the share! 🤎
I am loving that color. A moody dark green. Beautiful job!
Tea and Katie's amazing furniture make overs are the best way to start Saturday ❤
My kids grandparents had the same bedroom furniture 😂
So much prep and all the sanding, I am not up to that! Good there are people like you around!
I am always anti paint, it grinds my nerves but I have to admit on this piece it’s beautiful. Removing the outdated plastic pieces and painting it the color you did, really transformed this piece. Beautiful! ❤️👍🏻
I love the way it came out. I have seen people take all the plastic off, but not partial. It's very pretty like that
such a good idea to cut out those plastic bits with the dremel! Looks modern, but in a way that compliments the piece!
Great job. ❤ I’m so happy you showed this transformation. Furniture with plastic appliqués flip so nicely.
I'm always amazed at how creative you are. I wouldn't have thought about that. Great job as always. Love your videos.
That piece turned out so lovely!
That piece turned out beautiful, as always. I love watching you makeover furniture. ❤😊

Wow! You really made this dresser look beautiful and sleek! Thank you and God bless you.
I love your '"I did it!" Giggle when you took out the drawer inset. So relatable le ❤️

I love the way the front of drawers came off.
Love that color! I really like that you explain what you're doing and why. I've always wanted to be able to use tools and hardware and you make it seem doable. Growing up in the 50s, women weren't allowed to learn shop skills so good thing we can now go to platforms like yours to acquire them!
I'm so glad I can help you feel empowered to try new things!
Another beautiful redo! Love this color too. I wondered if the larger curved trim would also be removed but u were right to keep it.
Lovely. Good that you left the one carved feature on the doors to keep the retro vibe.
I swear! I Think the color for the furniture! Amazing ❤❤❤❤
Very nice. You have great ability to see what something could be.
This one is really a good example of how the smallest changes can have the biggest impact. I love the way it turned out, and that color is really beautiful. 🥰

Lovely attention to detail. A beautiful make-over.

1971-1975 would be the vintage years of this piece. I also watch your videos and learn from them. Thank you.
That looks amazing!! And the color is just beautiful!! Very well done 😊
This looks so good! This piece reminds me of my grandmothers house 💕
I can almost see the shag carpet the dresser used to sit on! Much better now! I have a cabinet from a similar style i have been completely stuck with. Feeling inspired!
It’s a great project to tackle, they’re super common and can be transformed in many different ways!
My parents owned the whole bedroom set of this! The only piece saved was THIS ONE! It looks lovely ! Great job! ❤️
WOW, great makeover on dated furniture! Thanks for this video!
My mother bought a very similar piece in 1969. It was very fashionable at the time, but I really love the way you updated yours. It looks great.
What an amazing transformation! Love everything about it
AMAZED at the difference! You did an excellent job. Really good flip! The only thing that I would want if it was mine, are some sort of feet. Such a good job! 👏🏻
