Thank you Juan, for your usual informative video! I'd even fly with you and I'm not big on ANY airplane! I once covered a car manufacturer's new car parking area with tensioned fabric hail protection structures and made a few air tours of the project and it scared me to death! I came up in structural concrete and I still think the insurance of a cathodic protection system was/is warranted. I would also recommend a high strength epoxy overlay of the surface of the spillway to resist cavatation! Thanks for your great work......!
I got a good chuckle from a Alaska Airlines 737-700 captain after a good solid plant touchdown in Nome. I piped up as I passed the open cockpit door, "That was a great Kablamo landing!" I think he must watch this channel too. The plane ballooned pretty good just as we 'flared' into ground effect and we drifted a bit longer than I think he planned...so it was either go around or set er down. The runways in bush alaska don't have much in the way of 'extra' to play with. So we set down hard and he ratchetted the binders and reversers tight. That plane can stop pretty darn fast. Much better than the older 200 series they still use for milk runs and freight. We used up every inch of the asphalt and turned around well past the last set of white bars to make it back to the taxi-way.
On most projects, I cannot imagine how they can spend millions of dollars; on this one it is easy. It is pretty cool to watch the progress from what it was to what it is now. HUGE thanks for covering it like you do; really gives you a sense of scale for a project this big! Don't forget to ask the dam guys for a little concrete to fill in the hole you made pounding it onto the runway :-)

I rode around the Palermo ditch last week into the "Forbidden Zone" for some pics. The red and yellow flags were a nice holiday decoration from top to bottom. Cool straight line approach about the South fork btw.

A word of advice,,close the windows on takeoff. I know it is probably sweltering there,,but it's better that barreling thru a cloud of bees right at rotate. Pops and I got waylaid for a couple hours due to those buggers getting rammed into the cockpit of his Bellanca with the windows open on takeoff. Ouchie!!! Made for a interesting but painful flight back home.

In the 80's one of my many jobs at the highway dept. was planting wild flowers, grass and tree's along the highways..Wondering what the final cover will be for the area..Takes me back to the 60's when we had Big Muskie ripping the hills of Ohio and our ag class would go see it and the reclamation process after it went through

You mentioned runway 7 and runway 25 at Nevada County but you don't have 25 runways at the airfield. This scenario also applies at just about every other airport or airfield I've visited, including my own single runway local airport. Wanted to know why they did not call them simply 1 and 2 everywhere. So I went off to investigate after watching this video and found out it's something to do with magnetic compass points. I love this channel, makes me learn something new every time! Thanks for the Oroville update, looking good isn't it?

There a lot of people doing darn hard work out there in the California heat. My hat's off to them. Juan, when they open the new spillway for the first time you better tell that airline company you work for that after all this time and effort there is no way you're going to miss the event. Otherwise it might be interesting to see you fly one of their shiny new 787's in circles around the dam.

good to see the spillway is almost complete. two years have passed since Oroville failed and the slide took out the spillway and soon the spillway will be complete and the dam operational.
