- It's often said that Dr AM Obote, former president of Ugand once said that 'a good Muganda is a dead one". Some people say that Dr Obote never made such a statement. Others say he said it but was taken out of context. While some of his opponents say that President Obote said it and that he never wished well for the Baganda.
Well whatever Dr Obote said, am yet to come across a recording of it. But this is what Dr Obote is on record giving his vews on his relationship with Buganda.
People hated this man for tribalism for nothing infact he was a good man

The problem of Africa is the inability of our people to work together. It's not really leadership, but followership. Our perennial issue is the inability to follow a lead.

He should have left Buganda after 1966 he had overstayed his welcome. We forgave him once before 1960 and then he turned guns on us in our homes. He should have left us Baganda alone.

Obote attacked the Palace in Mengo in 1966 and plunged the country into war and unrest, killing thousands of people over his selfish reasons and he comes out to say that he isn't tribal. He claims to have loved Baganda but he attacked their king and exiled him. These are double standards from this despot. He doesn't owe Baganda any love, let him just be in his own space.

I have one of his interviews with andrew muwenda when he was asked what lessons did he learn as a leader. Obote was beyond brilliant, i still love him and misses him, i play all his videos at least daily.

Look at yourselves now only prideful that you collaborated just so you could have better clothes which have now faded and rotted. If Buganda was the problem then why abolish all kingdoms?
There is a reason for abolishion of the tribal kingoms. If what the late president Obote did was wrong the kingdoms had all the chance to take the UPC government to the court. Why did they not do that?

@@isam6864 first try to find out what Mutesa did before asking such questions. Mutesa as ceremonial president had the responsibility to make the country united and developed uniformly. Read books so that you see how trechearous Mutesa and his mengo was. If you are not told, Mutesa was the first president to kill Ugandans in 1964.

Obote remains the worst president Buganda has ever experienced. Museveni cant get close to the babariness of Obote. He was such a mean insecure hulligan.
Just to know the talks against Obote was a creation of Buganda and Baganda leaders. It is the only tribe in Uganda that always cry foul against late president Obote. The rest of the tribes in Uganda including those from where Idi Amin came from are not against Obote.

When Museveni tried to get his birth certificate did he get it? No, the got his baptism certificate. it is a clear indication that he was not born in Uganda. But that is not the case, Museveni abused the generosity of our forefathers who gave his parents a place to sleep when they lost their in Rwanda. He abused the generosity of our forefathers when they gave food, cothings, shelter, schools for their children and free medical treatment after they were kicked away from Rwanda. To thank the people of Uganda, Museveni used the same Rwandese like Kagame, Rwigema, Baigana, Bunyenyezi and many others who are still living and working in Uganda as Ugandans but are actually Rwandese. To kill the people of Uganda and take power from them. Ugandans who's parents gave shelters to the Kagames and Musevenis are living in fear and are treated as slaves. Ugandans were not treated as slaves during the time of late Obote.

This point of "A good Mugabda was a dead one", was first made by Grace Ibingiira in Luwero during the campaign preceeding the referendum on the lost counties of Uganda between Buganda and Bunyoro. Mr. Grace Ibingiira was decampaining the Uganda Government position of letting the people decide fir themselves where they should belong. Mr. Grace Ibingiira together with his UPC haters said that these words were the words of Mr. Obote the then Prime Minister of Uganda. Mr. Ibingiira himself had just returned from studies in India, and had picked those words from there where there existed the cast system, and one cast group where widely treated with disgust, and intact were labeled as being better dead than alive.
So Mr. Ibingiira misrepresented the Ugandan situation with such irresponsible utterance. And for those who didn't support the Government neutral position spread it around just to malign Mr. Obote.

I would have turned Uganda into a one Kingdom headed by one King and queen for all the people of Uganda. But they were lucky the late Obote respected them by leaving the tribal Kingdom to remain as it is though it was abolished.

BUT wisely designed the 1962 constitution in respect of a strong multiethnic and monarchical elements in Uganda. The functions of a president were formal not executive. unfortunately the fall of independence brought Obote who suspended the 1962 constitution outlawed kingdoms and traditional cultural leaders, making himself both head of state and government! when Baganda refused to accept his arrangement he got angry and attacked the kingdom killed people, destroyed property and sent the king into exile. This is what led us into political crisis to date. Amin and Museveni at one time worked with Obote. They inherited everything from Obote.
