  • THIS BBC GUY DARES DR OBOTE: HE REGREATS IT!
    • BBC News | Dr. Obote C...
In this 1983 BBC Dr. AM Obote recording, the then very popular BBC journalist Robin White interviewed Dr Apollo Milton Obote, the then president of Uganda. The interview took place in Kampala the capital city of Uganda.
Dr Obote took offence in some of the questions as Robin White (MBE), known for his robbing style of interviewing asked Dr. Obote tough questions resulting in an hilariously entertaining interview. You will find yourself laughing as Mr. White struggles to apologize to Dr Obote who is threatening to kick him out because the UPC president feels that Robin is wasting his valuable time talking about things he (Robbin White) doesn’t fully grasps.
Robin White is later said to have confided to his colleagues back at the BBC African Service that he went to the interview having not fully researched his topic well. That he usually rely on his vast knowledge of African Politics that he gathered from his years working at the BBC African Service.
This recording is said to be among the three of the best that Robbin White ever did during his times at the BBC African Service.

Here obote comes off as hostile, very argumentative and borderline combative.. he gave off the impression that he didnt care about the world's opinion of him and yet it was true that he was very unpopular in uganda especially due to the incidents of his first regime.
But i think his hostility towards robin might have been because of a secret grudge he held against the british, for its role in amin's ousting of his regime from power in Jan '71.

I don't think Dr Obote knew the meaning of peaceful. In his mind peaceful meant anarchy. All in all he was a bit shrewd as a politician, but probably a procrastnator. Whatever happened to him was all avoidable if he had acted on time.
