- I couldn't afford the $700.00 price tag to buy a spinning wheel, so I invented the DIY spinning wheel that could be made at home with $7.00 in materials! The Dodec has been a huge success and we have posted the plans for free so that anyone can make this amazing wheel!
Thank you so much being a single mom who cant afford stuff for myself this is a godsend love it incredible work
Thank you, were you able to build one?
Thank you so much for such a simple solution! As a college student, when funds are tight and time is limited, I want to keep with my spinning, and this will make it possible! Thanks so much!
THANK YOU for making this freely available. I can't wait to make mine. We bought the materials this evening. Including the drill bits and tax, it came just over $25.00. Tomorrow we cut out the pieces. Once we get it figured out, we will make another one and also try and figure out a Delta Flyer for it.
I really liked it too. It turned out better than I could have hoped, and I couldn't be Happier! Thank you, and I hope you wear it out and have to build another. lol
OMG. You're amazing. Thank you for engineering such a simple solution.
Like it? LOVE it! You make it look so incredibly Easy! Thank you for posting!
Got The Dodec made and OMG I LOVE IT!
thank you so much for sharing this awesome design that costs so little to create- kudos!
Also, I read this in a forum thread: If you go to Spinning Daily and look for the Fall 2012 Spin Off magazine, page down to the contents, look for Web projects, and the plans are in that section for download. You won't have to buy the magazine, and the actual creator of this DODEC wheel advises that Interweave Knits has created a much clearer version of his pattern. He advises that people download this version over the one in his Ravelry group.
Thank-You!!!!! sooooo much for sharing these plans. This wheel looks great.
Finally. thank you. I'm building a wheel for my cousin, but didn't understand the mechanics of how it was done or why it works. this was very helpfu.l
Just got something like this from a guy on Craigslist. Thanks for the video!
Just checked and after some digging, found that the plans are no longer free.
I just did a search for “Dodec Spinnkng Wheel Plans” and it took me straight to a page that linked to my website, but if you scroll down further, there’s a direct link to the PDF, and it’s free.
Wow! This is totally amazing. I'm about to look through the videos to see if you've got the diagram of how to make it somewhere. If you see this post, I hope you'll jump in there and let me know where you might have it at.
You are so awesome!
next, can you make a simple carding drum?
awesome I have a book charka but Id love to make this cause I need something that will keep spinning while I draft too ware can I get the plans?
In the video you've linked, the woman also reverses everytime she winds on (I don't know if you noticed). I don't know how a hook would help
Amazing
No, you’re amazing, and Spinning is Amazing!
I know this is an old video, but you wouldn’t happen to still have any plans or measurements for this, would you? 😅👍
Yes you can download the plans online by doing a search for Dodec Spinning Wheel Plans. I believe Long Thread Media hosts the Plans.
Where do I find the plans for this?
No, Your amazing.. and Science is amazing! lol
Also, is there any other info in your ebook other than building your wheel? Does it talk about how to use it (for complete novices)? Does it have basic/introductory info on how to prepare your own fibers from plants and how to make those tools?
If I made a circle cut for the wheel, what would you recommend for the diameter and thickness?
Hey im wondering if you would be willing to share the design
How far away is the footman from the wheel center? does it matter?
I love it!!!
I WANT ONE!! :)
Where can I find plans for the dodec wheel and his folding great wheel?
You should find a download by searching for Dodec Spinning Wheel Plans. Sadly I still haven’t posted plans for the folding great wheel. I really needed to do that 6 or 7 years ago, but have not got it done yet. I hope to have them up this year.
great!
brilliant
Where are the plans to build this posted? I can't seem to find them!
Search “Dodec Spinning Wheel Plans” and scroll down to where it says download plans. That’s a direct link to the PDF. Enjoy
You live in Canada, right? Alberta, right? And can show me how to make one of these, right? Pretty please. lol
I only innovate products I use, and I don't card my wool. I show how I prep wool in my video "Spinning my Wheels"
Hi! I built this wheel, the plans were great! But when I try to spin roving, it doesn`t spin, just rips off. I assume that I`m not doing something right, but was wondering if you could help me out? Thanks a ton!
Wow 🤩
Thank you! I’m very proud of it. :)
I think I'm in love with you.
lol! Back at ya.
The spindle looks to be permanently attached to the machine. How do you get the spun yarn off?
I know this was an old post I am answering but someone might find it useful. Yes though the spindle is permanently attached that’s not a problem because in the old days they would wrap a corn husk around the spindle and tie it on with string so that it could be slid off the spindle (or quill as it is more properly called) and the corn husk would stay wrapped in it’s tube shape serving as the center of the ball or cop of spun yarn. Nowadays you can just use a straw split lengthwise or some paper and tape unless you have some corn husks lying around handy.
You can find it on ravelry com and spinningdaily com
Hi......where are the plans??? I know this is an old posting but you talk about "plans"??????

There used to be build video tutorials as well if I remember correctly
Where can we find the plans?
Long threads media host the plans. You should be able to find them by searching for Dodec Spinning wheel plans.
@@JunoUcan thank-you!
Well you really doesn’t show how you built it 🥺

good stuff, I'll make one for sure... Should post an update on em, what wears out first, what if any modifications done etc. I'm thinking wingnuts on the back of the receiver instead of normal nuts, wutcha think?
link is no good

Meh, your title doesn't really express what this is. You should change it to something like 'Using the Porter Threads Spinning Wheel'. I didn't get anything on how to actually make a wheel, which is what your title implies.
Why do you have to reverse the wheel when you're spinning?
You shouldn't have to if you wind the yarn in the same direction you spin. Adding a hook to the end of the spindle or spinning from an angle would negate the need to reverse directions. This great wheel demo shows how it's done: ua-cam.com/video/yrrJLAXwUBU/v-deo.html
@@brinaburke6000 but she did reverse the walking wheel just as this guy did to bring the yarn back to the main part of the yarn to wind on away from the tip of the spindle or quill as it is also called. There is a lady who shows how to do a “fast flip” to enable her to not reverse but it is not all that easy to do that without a good bit of practice. Here’s a link to how she does it. ua-cam.com/video/gN0www9jn9Y/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for the free plans and for taking your time to show others how it's made!! I built mine and I love it!!! Check out my video on my channel! =)
Awesome wheel! I built a similar one and it works just as well! Watch the video on my channel!
Lovely wheel! I recently made a same style wheel but from a piece of mdf insttead of planks. Check out the video on my channel!
