  • I built an e spinner, DIY, without ever seeing an electric spinner! I think it came out ok. Here are the LINKS for INFO if you want to build one too! Make sure to leave a message telling me if you make one!
    BUILDING AN ESPINNER
    MOTOR:
    The XD-3420 spins clockwise and counterclockwise at 3000rpm. Comes in two shaft lengths and two different voltages: long or short shaft will work, get the 12v.
    www.amazon.com/Permanent-Reve...
    CONTROLLER:
    This is the Controller I bought: DC 12V 24V 6-30V Max 8A PWM Motor Speed Controller with Digital Display & Switch
    BUT GET THE OTHER ONE!
    I would recommend this one Instead:
    DC 10-55V MAX 40A PWM Motor Speed Controller CW CCW Reversible 12V 24V 36V with Pentiometer and Switch
    If you want a display as well, then you can look for one that includes that as well.
    POWER:
    You will need a power block that can put out 3 or 5 AH, at 12V. It should come with the power connector that you can wire to the motor. This is not the same one i bought, but i think it should work.
    www.ebay.com/itm/265004524230
    Wire:
    www.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-1-... or speaker wire will work as well
    BATTERY:
    WHEN I BUILD SPINNER TWO it will have a battery built in!
    A 3 AH 12 volt battery should be sufficient to power it, and you can find these online for around $20 or less.
    SPINNING PARTS:
    Single Drive Ashford flyer (Comes with one bobbin)
    woolery.com/ashford-standard-...
    Ashford bearings for the Ashford flyer
    (I bought these two things from the Woolery along with a pound of their Heinz 57 Top for $15 which is recommended to new spinners)
    OTHER THINGS:
    A Wooden Peg from Lowes that I whittled and drilled a hole in.
    A box clasp at Michaels.
    Elastic hairbands from Dollar store (Used as the drive band)
    I had this tape already and used it to mount everything: www.amazon.com/3M-Tape-4611-w...
    I took apart an old pen and cut the spring in half with some fishing line to create the break band system.
    I used tape wrapped around the motor shaft to make the channel in which the drive band lays. It seemed the cheapest and easiest option and has worked fine for me.
    Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe!

    Thanks for your video. Inspiring and helpful… previously I ordered an eel nano but it got lost in the mail so I’ve decided to build one (just for fun)… wanting to brush up on my electronics I fell down a Mechatronics rabbit hole…. Fun 🤩

    Super interesting. What I want to do is put the electrical motor directly to an existing - old fashioned - spinning wheel. Thanks for listing all the parts!

    Be careful with your hair around spinny things. Scared me next to the drill. Love the video, thank you!

    Great. i just used a flyer set (with the maiden bar) of the same brand and put it on an old spinning wheel. This is cool, i wil try to make one too

    I love it! Since Im a new spinner and need to slow it down at times, I wonder if I could skip the knob controller and use a foot pedal setup like on a sewing machine? Lol i need both hands at times and I afraid if I take one hand away to adjust the control knob I would have a mess on my hands

    Is there a video of anyone using this e-spinner? A review of it being used.

    I have an ordinary spinning wheel so wondering whether I can take the flier off that, use it interchangeably. Don’t see why not, especially if I can buy the bearings separately. It’s an ashford and I think ashford sell spare parts.

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  Рік тому +2

      i drew them - i was confined by the size of the wood I had, but the most important thing is the length of your flyer and the height of the movement of your flyer so it can spin freely. Inside the box just needs to fit your controller and motor and if you want to put in a battery. i can see if i can dig mine out and share them somehow.

    Thank you so much for the video! I've followed your instructions and made my own, unfortunately it has bad tension issues and makes squeaky noises 😢. Do you think you could help find find the problem? 🙏

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  9 місяців тому

      Yes! Do you have any sewing machine oil? You are supposed to oil the bearings. If the squeaking is coming from the motor, you will probably just need to replace it? Did you order the same flyer? The only other thing I can think of, is that maybe the distance between your bearings is to short and its squeezing the flyer?

      If you make a video and link it, i can look at it and try to help.

    How does the break work?

  • @elenamatei624
    @elenamatei624 Рік тому

    Hi. Very inspiring. I was wondering if you could possibly write the dimensions of the box, please? I am planning to make one. I have the same flyer. Thank you

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  Рік тому

      essentially the size of the box height doesnt matter but the length between the bearings should be 8 and 3/4". that is just the length of your flyer. the height of the bearings just needs to be taller than your flyer. which im not sure what that is but on the woolery site they have the dimensions on the flyers.

  • @berlinat

    Hello ! how much did it cost you ?
    Nice work

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  6 місяців тому +1

      less than $100, but im not sure of the exact amount. This was with buying the flyer and bobbin but not the wood.

  • @joemraz2953
    @joemraz2953 Рік тому

    Also, what is the purpose of the brake and can you detail how that works and is attached..?

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  Рік тому

      it creates the tension between the flyer and the motor which allows for the pull of the yarn onto the bobbin. all spinning wheels have a "brake" of some sort - these are either irish tension or Scottish tension. this spinner has Scottish tension.

    Could you please explain what the break does? Why would we need it?

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  Рік тому

      sorry for the late reply - all spinning wheels have a brake system - its the way that the tension between the flyer and the bobbin allows for the yarn to be pulled on the bobbin. this is a scottish tension system - also referred to as a brake.

    Can you link the speed controllers? I'm having trouble finding them

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  2 роки тому +1

      here's one that i would buy with a speed control and a reversible switch. www.ebay.com/itm/164622896168?hash=item26544a0c28:g:cGUAAOSw-9Zf273Z
      i'm not sure if this one has an on off switch so you may want that feature. searching 12 volt motor controller with pentiometer and switch on ebay should help bring up other options. it seems that things are very pricy with all the supply chain problems, good luck.

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  9 місяців тому

      I have updated the link, you have a choice on the new page: so you want 12 volt at 3AH or 5 AH

  • @penelope-oe2vr
    @penelope-oe2vr 2 роки тому

    I would use a sewing machine motor with foot pedal to be able to adjust the speed with a foot pedal. Surely this can be done!

    • @heatherwolfe2716
      @heatherwolfe2716 2 роки тому

      I tried that but you don't get enough control believe it or not. I ended up having to buy a separate motor control to adjust the speed slow enough to spin

    • @BernadetteSky
      @BernadetteSky  2 роки тому +1

      you know i contemplated just using a sewing machine or a drill to spin on at first, but those things are loud! a sewing machine motor is probably around the same price as this motor, but the motor plus controller was like 35 bucks. the expensive part was the flyer! and this motor is so quiet, im very happy with this setup. im sure you could probably use the wires from a pedal and attach it to the pentiometer output and see if it can function the same, i wouldnt be surprised if it did. conversely, i wonder if there are 12v motor switches with pedals attached. i dont even use the pedal on my sewing machine, so i wasnt interested in that.

      the spinning concept can be hard to understand, i thought about it for a while! but the electronics are very simple.
