Well done video. You did not waste my time and you got right to the point. While I have been working on cars for 50 years I always go to the manual and internet for info on jobs I have not had to do. Well done. I am not a patient person.

Hey bro I don’t know if you’ll see this but thank you for this video. It’s pretty similar to a Silverado which is my truck the one I’m gonna change the oil pump on. I’m 16 years old and this is gonna help me a lot, I’m not trying to spending $800+ for someone to do this for me when I can learn to do it myself and it makes me more independent I guess! Thank you I’ll update you on how it goes!

Great tip on the support braket for the other side of pick up tube to the oil pump. I already installed my new pick up tube, gm performance oil pan and my new melling oil pump. But no worries, thanks to your vids I still can install that new braket if I need it.

coverman66 2007 tahoe 5.3. Broke tensioner and ate the face off of the guide then pumped pieces of them and some metal shavings, from chain rubbing on metal bracket, through the motor. So no longer a timing chain job but a full on rering job now. Found the heads to be cracked between valves on a few cylinders so waiting on some replacement castings. Original ones that cracked were 799 castings so going to throw a set of 243 castings in and hope for another 150k out of it.

Did you have to change your oil pan gasket when you did what you did?

  • @crappysockpuppet

Huge fan of your videos. Got a few questions. Will a high volume oil pump, pump out the oil pan too quickly. I’m thinking of installing a Melling high volume on a 2012 suburban with a 5.3 liter. It’s got 130,000 miles. We have replaced the lifters, and all new gaskets and seals. We replaced the o-ring on the oil pump, but we only get 17-18 psi at idle and 35-40 psi at highway speed. The lifters will get a little noisy when the car is parked on a slight uphill grade just idling at 500 rpm. We did replace the Vlom as well with a new sending unit. What are your thoughts. Thanks

@@Coverman66 hey Terry well i got a mirror and looked behind where the pick up tube and oil pump meet and there was a huge gap,and remember i have a after market pan and pick up tube that has two bolts, and still a huge gap, thankfully i looked behind it,because in front it looked perfectly sealed man.so people might want to do this, hell like i said mine has 2 bolts and still wasnt sealed.
what i did,i have a new oil pump,so i took a cut off wheel to my old pump and cut it down to where its just the part that bolts to the pick up tube, then i was able to get channel locks and squeeze it together like 20 times closing the gap pretty good,i thought about getting it red hot with a propane torch, but i didnt, now im going to get a gasket with gasket silicone and try that terry.i closed the gap pretty good surprisingly ,so hopefully it will work.probably not my luck but damn dude im so tired, and i just do not want to have to remove the trans to get the pan and tube out.so im going to try this first.i would advise everyone to look very close front and back for leaks, later man

dropping the pan is the only way, on that olds i would raise the engine enough to drop the pan and change the o ring. remember is the pan gasket is new you should be able to reuse, if the rubber looks flat, then replace it..

How did you install it on this one from there? The factory gaskets have rivets on the top that have to be drilled out to remove the gasket. Im just trying to figure out if i can get away with doing this on mine without dropping the pan because i have a lift kit on the truck that makes it a huge job to get the pan out.
