  • One of Linda's best, recorded during the Simple Dreams album sessions. Ronstadt rejected the recording , saying she sounded like "a schoolmarm" on it. The song was written by and previously recorded by Karla Bonoff

Stunning track, absolutely heart rending. Sounds faultless to me. She was such a harsh critic of her own work - a shame she couldn't hear it with our ears, and share the pleasure she has brought to so many.

There has Never been a singer quite like Linda, whose voice was able to do Anything that she set her mind to.. The absolute Beauty of her vocals is just Incredible, and seemingly without effort.. And her Stage Presence was Always the perfect match for her performances, so innocent, and yet, so full of Feminine Vitality.. There was No Way that you couldn't Fall in Love with her.. There haven't been Any other women singers with That kind of Magic.. She always complained that her Personal Life was so very lonely, and yet there wasn't a girl who didn't want to Be her, and there wasn't a guy who wasn't in Love with her.. Such an Amazing Talent, and such a Sweet and Humble person.. Thank You, for Everything that you gave us, Lovely Linda... Lary

It really is Too Bad that this Lovely Song was never included on an album.. It's got virtually Everything going for it, a Haunting Melody, Pensive Lyrics,
brilliant instrumentation, and such a Beautiful vocal, every bit as good as Any of her Early work.. It only seems to be available on her Box Set compilation.. It is so very Beautiful.. Just Love it... Lary

@JohnnyM Fan - Yes indeed, but from a different time, and a different era.. What made Linda Ronstadt such a remarkable talent was her Versatility and her desire to accomplish that which No One Else would ever attempt.. From Rock and Roll, to Opera, to Broadway, to Mexican Theater, she had the drive to accomplish that which No One Else would ever attempt.. That is what sets her apart from Everyone Else.. And you can't deny that Incredible Voice.. Simply Remarkable...

We’ll ever have another like her, and this song requires a huge bow to Karla Bonoff…without her talent, this song wouldn’t exist❤️

This is way better than most of the tracks on Simple Dreams and Living in the USA and Mad Love; it's right up there with the best things from her golden years 74-77.

I think it just didn’t fit the Simple Dreams sound. It’s a better song than many that followed though. I’m glad it was part of her boxed set.

@@evanhughes1510 I’m not fond of Mohammad’s Radio, but it reflects how important the radio was to her childhood. I definitely get your point, I reviewed the track list and there’s not a dud on there! I guess I was thinking of some of her later recordings. I’m a huge fan of hers, just not every song choice.

This is wonderful. Artists are usually the worst judges of their own material & performances. And this one proves the point once again.

    Oh my heart aches
    Deep inside me
    Oh, how I miss you
    Will you come back?
    Oh, why you leave me?
    Oh, what can I do?
    Cause every night
I sit here by the phone
You know it rings a lot inside my head
    I daydream you're home
I never knew that it would go this far
    Come pick me up
    I'm going down
    Like a falling star
    And the clock strikes midnight
    And I'm lying here alone
    I can't sleep, I hear my heartbeat
Oh, I can't stand the monotone
And every day I have paced the floor
You know it rains a lot inside my heart
But I still ask for more
But now I know that love can leave a scar
Come pick me up, I'm going down
    Like a falling star
And when the birds fly south for a while
Oh, I wish that I could go
Someone there might warm this cold heart
    Someone there might know
But every day I have paced the floor
You know it rains a lot inside my heart
But I still ask for more
But now I know that love can leave a scar
Come pick me up, I'm going down
    Like a falling star

She seems to be straining a bit on the high notes, very unlinda like. Maybe she wasn't feeling her best when she recorded this and new it.

Seems to me she's imitating Karla Bonoff's version. Karla sort of skirts around high notes.
