The question inevitably will be 'why?', but I understand the reasons. Thank you for an indulging us in excellent little adventure and a great showcase for both the products used and the managed approach to the risks involved. You're a medical professional and so you can make good judgements as to level of personal risk, and keep aware of your situation. I really enjoyed coming along from the comfort of my sofa. Winter is very challenging for motorcycling in the UK, but you've showed that it doesn't have to be a complete no-no. Roger is not the garage queen!
and it's even more challenging in Switzerland. Many never get to ride through the winter, having to wait till March/April..., so those days with dry road-days in the UK Winter, would be very welcoming for Swiss riders.
This brought back memories of bike rallys during the winter when I was younger & my bike was my only transport, I did many winter rallies up & down the country. One in particular springs to mind which was held in the grounds of Tutbury castle, I was on a little 150cc Francis Barnett plover. My tent collapsed during the night under the weight of 6" of snow, my ride back home saw me literally covered in ice with no feeling at all in my limbs by the time I got back home to Cambridge. My Dad had to help me off the bike & sit me in front of the coal fire to thaw out, thank goodness he had a roaring fire going when I got home !
I am sitting here in my easy chair asking myself "Why". Because she can...pretty straight forward. So many new gadgets and products Charlie. Gorgeous weather and footage of your adventure. I ran a boys camping program 40 years ago and did my share of sleeping on the ground. " How on earth do you do it?" Scares me to death to think your riding frosty roads. God bless you.
We are not worthy. Seriously Charlie, hats off to you not only for doing it but for sharing your story so well with us. Your vids just get better and better for story, content and imagery. Its so nice to see soneone have the passion and enjoyment out of life. Thank you
Thank you, really enjoyed that. My favourite things included too, riding my bike and camping 😊 Must get myself one of those pumps. Thumbed and subscribed, thanks again 👍🏻😀
Charlie, you never cease to amaze me! Another great trip with great footage as per usual. The only negative was that cafe not making you a quick cuppa , shame on them 😊 stay safe as always 😎
Great video , in cold weather , remove batteries from electronics if possible and keep em in your doss bag with you , ditto gas can for stove , well planned ahead and good contingency plan . A candle lantern can take the edge off the cold in the tent if used with caution .
Wow,fantastic vid, thanks for sharing, I must say you are a gutsy woman even attempting this trip at this time of year, great content and enjoyed it a lot, thanks again.
Great video, with the added bonus of spotting an ex DublinBus decker in wildest Somerset...a feat worthy of a David Attenborough commentary. That wee pump is a wonder in itself !
Wow you are one tough lady. Rather you than me. Loved your videos this year and I look forward to more next year. Loved the French trip especially. Have a good one.
Hi Charlie you made me feel freezing watching this video, but thanks for sharing it was interesting and good to know what you can do with the right gear. Not for me though I like the heat.
Super video as usual. Unpretentious down to earth practical camping. I camped in frosty conditions for three nights and survived to, not only, tell the tale but to promise myself I'll never do it again. You know it cold when, in the morning, the tent's zip has frozen and you can't get out until a camping companion pours warm water on it.
Wow fantastic video, ive been thinking of a camping trip too , in between Christmas and new year on my motorbike at the lower end of Scotland , You are an inspiration ♥ Thank you...
Loved that. Lots of nostalgia for me too, as I bivvied there over 2 weekends in 1979. Just a plastic sheet and a blanket. - I was May though. Thanks for sharing!
Great video .informative and stunning.(though not quite enough to get me out under the winter stars🥶The cheddar loop from bristol is an old fav . usually on a balmy summer's eve , once the tourists have gone for the day .
Charlie you are slightly mad but lovable and you keep on going when many stay in the warm and cozy but thanks for all the trouble you go to because so many reap the benefit of your efforts and your production is excellent and comments on kit very helpful. What a good egg your are.
I must say you are a glutton for punishment. What a great ride, the Cheddar Gorge is beautiful, what great scenery, thank you for the great experience. Stay warmer.
What i nice adventure you had Charlie. Looks like you got most of the cold weather gear sorted. The video of the landscape was really good. I had a bit of a laugh to myself when you said that you was going read a book and chill out😁 Hope the cheese was good too. 😊
All these people who say why are missing out ,but those of us who do, know the fun of winter camping. If you have the right kit. Also you almost had the gorge to yourself. Try it in summer. You can't move for tourists. Nice one Charlie, keep Roger rolling.
Brave girl Charlie glad you was warm enough liked the bloons thing I thought they would be solid Great video can you put the go pro in the sleeping bag to keep batteries warm just a thought xx
Visiting in the Summer, the whole of Cheddar is thriving. The shops, chip shop, even the cheese shops are packed and have a load of samples out! Really nice
Charlie you are one crazy lady, but loves ya lots ya lots like jelly tots haha.Sat here feeling brrrrrrr and im in front of my fire watching this adventure hahaha. Love all you do and look forward to your adventures. Was thinking better not mention Schnapps and schnitzels or god knows where you may end up haha Merry Christmas ...
Well done. I had a wry smile to myself when you mentioned being inside a cramped tent. You should try a Wingman of the Road Goose tent. Honestly it would make for an interesting video from your perspective. It's big , bulky heavy and cramped inside but I love mine.
Superb video again - thank you! Yes it is "bonkersly" packed in the summer - I went on my bike on a summer Sunday. The annoying thing was that other bikers were trying to show off by over-taking me on the turns. And there were a lot of bikers as well. I found the country lanes around the gorge really good for riding. Pity about the cuppa in the cafe! Hats off to you for camping out in that weather.
A big battery pack and some thermal clothes or thermal blanket will keep you warm all night. Also get thermal insulation for your tent. Cheers. Great video.
Yeh, as motorcyclists we do things like that just for the ride. For myself, the buying of cave matured cheese was just the excuse to go for the day from Leatherhead area. Great stuff.
Hi Charlie, you do make superb UA-cam videos...always a delight to watch and good kit info too...thank you very much and hope you have a quiet Christmas when on duty. Fireman Sam & Suzie xx
Brrr!! , poor roger , i bet his battery was a bit low . Good job he came through for ya , as for the ice boob , " thanks for the mammary " ( as the Bing Crosby song goes ) keep em coming Cha
I'm so glad you're doing all these ride outs and camping trips. It means I don't have to! I can just sit here with my leg up in front of the fire listening to the flower duet and watching you freeze your ass off. Keep up the good work Charlie I've not been to Cheddar for over 30 years.

Well squared away there, it’s great now how compact the modern camping gear is, especially sleeping bags & mats, if anyone ever criticises you for the amount of kit you have, just state “anyone can be uncomfortable”. Definitely going to get one of those pumps. Instead of tins I now use boil in the bag meals that used to scrounge off my old army mates, but now that source has ran out, I’ve bought a vacuum bag sealer for my kitchen, so before I go out I can make up my own meals & pop them into the bags.
Oh my ...i couldn't see that without feeling of Freezing 🥶 😂... What a Brave Lady 👏🏻.... I think there's some Spray to used for foggy Glass 👓....its may make it easier to use and see 👀.. Good luck be safe 💐🇸🇦👍🏻
Nice setup. When I camp in cooler temperatures, I have 2 of the old type hand warmers that run on lighter fuel. Light them and preheat my sleeping bag, then just let them burn in the tent to very slightly warm the tent. The lighter fluid can have a bit of odor if the airflow is restricted.
Been down there many times, though even on bikes parking is a nightmare in summer. Burrington Combe is another one of course. That said, you must be barking mad camping in December in the current UK weather. Hat's off to you! 😊
I think that goat was a Soay sheep (although there are goats in the Gorge). 😊 I keep my bikes on the road in the winter - there are always some decent days - but, these days, I draw the line at ice and snow. Credit to you for suffering to entertain us softies. 👍
Bloody brilliant stuff and you did the right thing sticking to the bigger roads early in the morning to avoid the frosty roads.what a beautiful gorge .Bloody coffee shops closed or closing 😮. Definitely all credit due to the wonderful campsite what a great place so helpful. When I am out on my bike and camping I am 110% alive and living life. All said I think you did the right thing with the smaller tent, but that's only an uneducated guess. Thanks for taking us along and Roger looked pretty dam cool with an icing of frost over him.Once your prepared as you were its all very doable. Thank you for a lovely adventure ❤...
Thanks for sharing your adventures von Roger. I've recently sold my Himalayan 411 so I enjoy seeing your rides from a sunny and warm Perth Australia, while you brave the cold British winter conditions.
