The invoice ahowed the guy replaced the boiler for £80 profit... in a independent merchants this week was having a moan about going up against 4-5 quotes nowadays when he told me a bloke last week picked a boiler from him at 12 oclock when the owner said all set for Monday then. Guy replied no this is going in tbis arfternoon quick £100 . Whatever happened to the days when we stuck to our prices and charge for what the work entails. Its getting harder n harder for genuine plumbers that care about their reputation. Good vid as always mate shoulda shown the benchmark page.. but no doubt it wern't filled out.
I have gone the other way now, i take much longer and try and do the best job possible, My price will be one of the highest the customer gets though. Thanks.
Hi alan. would you of replaced the whole cylinder? would you of done it that day or whenever you had the time? would you of had to replace all the pipework so its not fixed against the wall? would a plumber have to do this or could a gas engineering do that also? thanks
Having seen work done by gassafe plumbers I wouldn’t immediately assume it’s a DIY job, they standard seems to be pretty low. Also it seems reasonably common to have one gassafe plumber with a gang of labourers doing most of the installation these days.
Gas engineer piped radiator pipe where gas pipe should be, flodded the boiler and the gas supply to the house. No heating for over a month now. The gas engineer refused to fix the problem. What do we do?
Every man to his own job, that's the moral. (Apart from it's a law breaker these days anyway.) Only time I ever touch plumbing is if I've to change some worktops and the job isn't going to take long enough to hang around for a plumber. And even then I hate it.
Probably was a gas safe engineer did that flue . But what you dont tell you the week before he took the course he was a painter , Good old Gas safe at least know the rules are changing so people have to do there time before they jump in . Great work as normal allen
Did they have you back to replace it or are they trying to get it replaced on the cheap again It would be interesting to see if they've learned from this I've been in this trade for 33 years , much of my time spent self employed,I got sick and tired of attending jobs like this and then having the customer wanting it all fixed for next to nothing , they have no problem forking out for flash cars, huge TV 's , top of the range iPhone etc but they'll happily put their lives at risk skimping on a shit boiler install. I've now took a full time supervision / management position with a gas company , regular money , no weekends, pension We have a major problem though finding and keeping good gas engineers , its a constant revolving door , there a a lot of very poor and inexperienced people out there The skill is dying out in this trade We will see a lot more of this kind of crap work Buy cheap buy twice
Some cowboys out there, customer is driven by price as we all know.. but then complain when you give a decent price for quality and professional gas Safe Registered installation. Pay cheap pay twice, hopefully not worth your life..
I hate those pipe in pipe systems, 1 leak and you can re fit all rings and take it all apart,, but that looks heavy :) the condensation is really acid like
We are not allowed to cap anything without asking the customer. If the customer had said no the we need to call the National Grid on 0800 111999 and let them sort it.

The flue didnt have any screws in or any supports, also the benchmark was blank so i think it was DIY, Thanks for watching.
