I'm a former exterminator who specialized in agricultural pest control. Orange rinds were commonly used by farmers in the mid to late 1800s through the first half of the 1900s. They would dry the rinds and then grind them into small pieces then shake them out around their barns, manure piles, and maybe even around the exteriors of their homes. The long-lasting scent of the orange rind, applied in this way, is a great deterrent to flies, mosquitos, and spiders. Maybe more people are using these safe yet effective methods again now.

You can make tea with them also. When we were kids, our mom used to keep the orange peels aside and let them dry. She would boil the peels when dry to make the tea. It's delicious!!! Try it, just don't let it boil too long or the tea will get a bitter taste.
Some great ideas here. Here's another one. Whenever I eat an orange or use a lemon I just put the peels in the microwave and leave them there for a few hours or overnight. My microwave is left with a fresh Citrus scent. 🍊🍋❤
Seen a video of putting orange peels in water for 3 days then spraying it on baking soda to clean an oven. I instead sprayed it on my naturally curly hair as a leave in conditioner and my hair looks better than ever!
Yep! I use these a lot. Besides drying, I also throw them in my magic bullet and mix with vinegar and water, or make a paste with soda, boil a few for the good aroma, throw in primitive toilets when camping(also crushed garlic)...so many things one can do, mix with lemons, same deal, once pureed you can throw in your washer with clothes, put in musty closets, dried for citrus sachets for drawers, in a car or trailer...😊👍
In my native country, my parents used it to make tea, and now as an adult I use it on my skin, air freshener for my car, and for sweet and sour chicken. Very informative
You can zest the orange peels and dry overnight on parchment paper then save in a glass bottle such as an old seasoning bottle and later use in soups, curries or baking.
We discovered the candle sitting at the table eating tangerines one evening and the bottom of mine look like a bowl with the stem in it. We poured some olive oil in it and lit the stem and it stayed lit for hours! I threw my orange peel in my bedroom trash can one night and loved the smell the next morning so I discovered the deodorant affect, anxious to try the other things the peels can do. Thanks!
One more thing: the orange peel is wonderful in cakes. Shredded in tiny bits and mix with dough gives a very nice flavor!!!! The juice can be added also. So delicious 😋

NOT all cats get repelled by oranges .... in fact, I have ONE out of 8 sibling cats that learned to EAT ORANGES with me when I had mine! I had to hold her slice of a peeled orange segment and she would lick then proceed to TEAR OFF little bits to eat it. She got so good that as soon as she smelled the orange being peeled a room away, she would come running to eat her segment.
My dad use to dry them for two days and burn it with charcoal to chase away mosquito and the smells good too. ..it observed lots of smog and helps to chase away mosquitos.

I use water that had orange peels soaked in it as a degreaser added to extra reservoir in my dishwasher. I sometimes use vinegar that had orange peels soaked in it as final rinse agent in both dishwasher and clothes washer. Once I threw orange peels in the sink with greasy dishes soaking in hot water and dish detergent.
I first parboil them to sanitize, then dehydrate for orange zest seasoning. I dehydrate lemons, too. I bet they are good to add to soaps if you make soap.
I dip large peels or a half of orange or lemon in baking soda then use it to scrub my sink, my baking sheets, any pans with burnt on food, I have even used it to clean my glass shower doors. Pretty much anywhere I use the baking soda, as it adds a nice fragrance.

Just make sure that you use only the rinds and don't go to deep while grating them. The white parts of the peel is what's sour.
I put orange rinds in with my brown sugar to keep it moist.
While steeping a tea bag in hot water for a cup of tea add an orange peel slice to give your hot tea a soothing orange flavor.
