  • Where the Earth Meets the Sky tells the story of a 1200-mile journey north to record five musicians in Scotland and experience some of the best scenery in the UK.
Affectionately labeled half vlog/half documentary, this film was made with one camera and a drone over a week of travelling. Alongside me on the journey is Eva, whose help and cinematography made the film what it is and allowed us to get some incredible footage whilst driving. A huge thank you to Tom, who was responsible for gathering his fellow musicians to take part in the piece, and to BMG, Runrig and Paul Mounsey, for allowing me to cover 'An Toll Dubh' as part of the soundtrack.
The music for this film is available here:
    marcuswarner.co...
Video/cinematography: Marcus Warner and Eva Neuberger
Vocals: Kaitlin Ross and Marcus Warner
Additional performances by Tom Campbell-Paine, Ross Hull, Megan MacDonald, Alexander Mackillop Levack and Aiden Appleton

The background story for those who are interested: I wrote the main melody for 'Carried Home' way back in 2014, after I had just joined university. I tried making it into a full piece but couldn't ever get the style right and eventually abandoned the idea altogether, and so it sat for nearly four years. That is of course until last year when making _39 Seconds_ . I had stumbled across Tom, Kaitlin and Megan on a UA-cam video and realised the potential for the piece if I got other musicians involved; so after speaking to Tom at some length (who kindly got in contact with me after seeing a comment I wrote), finally got the ideas together, wrote the lyrics, and arranged a recording session.
Eva and I had been discussing doing a road trip for a while, and so I suggested we make this journey to Scotland not just a trip for the recordings, but for the opportunity of seeing the north of England and Scotland in all of its beauty. The idea for making it into a film came pretty much simultaneously. Whilst it's been hard work and very time consuming to edit, colour grade, design both the sound and write the music, it has been a hugely enjoyable experience, one that I hope to have again. I know there's a lot I could have done better with this film and I'll look forward to having the opportunity to improve in the future.
Let me know what you think of it, I would be glad of constructive criticism, and I hope you enjoy Where the Earth Meets the Sky!

I'm so glad that I could join the premiere. You're not only an amazing composer but also entertaining and know how to put everything perfectly in scene. In addition, all the musicians were incredibly good and all in all makes the song Carried Home so beautiful. Thanks again for sharing this whole experience!

I never thought I'd be so excited to see a "vlogumentary". This was amazing! It reminds me of all the times I used to travel and made me feel like I was right there with you guys. ^^ Hearing Kaitlin (I hope I'm spelling that right) made me smile and I couldn't resist singing the song right alongside her. Seeing [more of] the behind-the-scenes of your music is absolutely stunning; you never cease to amaze me and many others! Thank you for this Marcus--words can't express how much I enjoyed watching this and how much I love the album.

In 50 minutes, I felt like traveling for days. I do not usually travel much (lack of means), and that was really nice to discover. The music and video were really well orchestrated, fluid, and pleasant to listen to and watch. It's incredible to think you did it yourself, alone (music and video) or with great musicians (Kaitlin is a musician too, the voice is an instrument).
Many thanks for those feelings Marcus !

My God! I'm watching this and I'm so glad that I found this video. This is what the real journey should be. The whole purpose of a trip is not just going and seeing places, but actually expressing your feelings through art (the art of photography, the art of sound, etc.), those feelings that were born out there, in places like Isle of Skye, Glenco.
Marcus, I'd be listening "Where the Earth Meets the Sky" on my very first trip to Scotland. Thank you for all of this.

Hey guys, I just found this nice documentary while searching for something about Scotland. I was on Skye with my girlfriend in May 2019, hiked the Skye Trail for one week and afterwards travelled around Scotland with a campervan for two weeks. Honestly, I don't know why but this landscape and the people there thrills me more than my trip through Nepal. Would be happy to see something from you with a bit more time for the island or the norht of Scotland. Durness is a nice place. You should go there... However, thanks for this very nice and touching film.

I'm an old man now, but I used to be heavy into music. Never did anything big and nobody knows my name, but I've played over much of the US and some in Europe as a guitarist in a country band. My wife is from England and I've been there, but i've never been to Scotland. Both sides of my family came from Scotland in the 18th century and settled in the Blue Ridge mountains where we still live. I would love to take the trip you show here, but spend several days in Scotland if I can ever get back over there. Thank you for a very good video with incredible music; just what I needed on this stuck-in-the-house, rainy day.

I found the soundtrack last week and fell in love faster than a rock falls off the mountains of Scotland. To have experienced that first, and then watched this... it's made me appreciate how much you've put into your music, it really has. How much of what you've seen and heard, felt and thought - bound up so beautifully in music, and now film. Perhaps this film isn't the most polished, or the best shot/edited (particularly during night scenes and a few panoramas), but I think it was that same roughness that got me to do away with all the (admittedly high) expectations I'd had, to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Despite the occasionally awkward formality, you and Eva come across as amazingly fun people to hang out with, with keen eyes for the beauty in this world, and proved skill in turning it into scene and song.
Thank you for bringing us on this road trip. I hope for many more to come.

You’ve no idea how much joy this brought me. From all the way in California, you have made me want to travel all the more with this. I already have such a longing to see the world and all its beauty, and Scotland (being a part of my family’s ancestry) is a place that I’ve been waiting I go. Until I can, thank you so much for this.

I found your video very interesting and the music spell binding. I love Scottish music, I think it is powerful when it is put into film. I came to live in Scotland 6 years ago from Leeds, and there is no better place for scenery and a different pace of life, more relaxing. Have you heard of a group called Boluger Lagoon. They have some fantastic music in there films. Watch Sullivan's coastal trip, It's brilliant.
