I grew up on Dad s music ! Ill be 67 April 22nd 2023 and Dad would be going on 107 if he was still living ! My Dad met Turk Murphy and Dad had all his records and along with Clancy Hayes Fire House 5 plus two and Preservation Hall Jazz bands !
Great band and performance but what a difference from just 20 years before this. Jazz came outta the gate arond 1915/17 became popular by 1927 and has never stopped changing..its different from art because hazz is an actual living art....its timeless , always will be. Teach our future generations please..keep trad jazz alive
This is the Turk Murphy Jazz Band at its very finest, when Earthquake Mcgoon's was the hottest club in town! So put on some dancin shoes and shake your shimmy, 'cause now they're the hottest band on UA-cam!!
Please someone tell me what dance is being performed by the two, he with the black vest and white shirt and her with the flapper clothing. He has a big moustache and they bounce back and forth. Fantastic and the little young girl is doing the same. I visited Earthquake McGoons many, many time in the 70's and loved the entire thing.
It's the Charleston! I used to dance that myself (or tried to) as a little girl at McGoon's--my Mom and Dad were old friends of Turk's and we went as often as we could. McGoon's was family friendly! You could bring your kids and Turk had magic shows for them downstairs. I miss those days so much...

Leon Oakley steals the show on the last strain.
