  • Here is a video of me replacing a serpentine belt ("generator drive belt" as described in the online documentation) on a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD. I purchased an OEM belt (part # PY01-15-909A, us42200-001) from the local Mazda dealership, but it is also available online. You will need a 17mm wrench.

Thanks for the video. One suggestion...you should always do the water pump belt at the same time since when that one breaks the serpentine belt has to come off to access the water pump belt.

Belt shesred off on the ol lady this morn on the highway. Had a new one on from time of start time to complete in under 30 mins taking time to make sure everything was in place properly before starting it up and charging the battery a couple mins before firing it up. All from above. Had my dad hold the belt on the crank with a wrench for a finger extension from the passenger side rear while i used a 17mm socket, thin head ratchet and snipe to release the tensioner pressure and install the belt on the other 2 pulleys. Was much easier than I anticpated. That never happens to me. If u have a 3rd arms handy this job is easy to get done without a jack. Thia was on a 2016 2.0L CX-5

good on you for putting this out there. When installing the new belt I double wrenched with the primary wrench coming off at 5 oclock and stacked hockey pucks between the 2 nd wrench and the drive shaft which held the tension while I put the belt on. It made for an easy job. Thanks for the start on the job.

Thank you for the video! Especially for the idea of opening the plastic panel under the front passenger wheel, I've first tried to use other video guides (where they are doing it from under the hood only) and failed, but now it is done. After opening that one by the way I realized that it would be perfect to change water pump belt as well if I knew it will be that close, I will definitely order that one as well.
One more thing - for me it was impossible to make the tensioner release the belt much, I still had to put a lot of force to pull the old belt out. Moreover - I was only able to put the new one in by rolling the crankshaft with 21mm wrench (I used the default wheel wrench for that). Maybe that's because I was only able to find Bosh replacement belt 965mm (I can see you used 971mm one).

Using a bar for leverage was key. Thank you

Always keep the old one in the trunk just in case (as long it's in OK condition)

I need to replace mine now too. Where did you find the diagram with instructions for the belt.
In my Mazda CX-5 the water pump is on the same belt. So a little different.

I'm not sure where I found the diagram. I just Google'd it and found it somewhere.

@@yegago Mine is definitely the gasoline version. We don't have the diesel option in the U.S.

After i change the tensioner and belt, my car lost power when acceleration. do u know why?

    • @HardBoiledGregADV
      @HardBoiledGregADV  4 роки тому +2

No clue, but my guess would be that it wasn't installed properly. If the serpentine belt isn't installed correctly it's not going to power the alternator like it should and will result in your car running purely off battery until the battery dies and you lose all power.

Is it throwing a code? Perhaps you broke a wire or disconnected a sensor on the cam or crankshaft.

I purchased the vehicle in 2014. The belt broke in May of 2020, so it was about six years.

@John Derham did you find the reason behind this sound?
I have a similar problem but the belt looks ok, and it mainly comes after switching on AC, so suspecting the AC compressor clutch

    is your car gasoline engine?

Yes. Mine is a gasoline engine. The diesel variety is not available in the U.S.
