My man did almost 16 years and got out almost 2 years ago. He’s still adjusting. It was 2002 when he went in so technology changed drastically. It’s funny because he always leaves lights on in the house or doesn’t close cabinets and doors because he’s just not used to doing things like that. He came out and is doing so great! It can be done!

My brother did 13 years + change, and even though he's been home for 2, he still has moments that are just... difficult for him. He had his daily routine, working out, hitting the yard, congregating, church on Sunday, everything. What's really helped him is keeping a pocket notebook and checklists he goes over day after day until he doesn't need them, but he still has some from the day after he got out he goes over daily regardless. I'm only relating this in the hopes that maybe someone else adopts that and it helps them in their struggles. If you have loved ones going through the same, shoot em a text, pick up the phone, "You good? You okay?" It means a lot because the fear of freedom is absolutely real.
What happens if you a Black guy in your late 20s and you get locked up in Cook County jail and you unaffiliated? Will gangs try to recruit you still? What will happen?

I was in Division 10 for the last 2 months of a 6 month sentence. This man's telling the truth. My Cell was raided at like `10 at night just because they thought my new Cellie snuck in a shank. Fights everyday too.
NRC = Northern Reception Center. I was locked up with this cat in Jacksonville during his last 1-1/2 years. I ain’t even know he did that much time! But this one of the realest dudes I met while I was in IDOC this man was the truth he would help anyone with anything didn’t discriminate or none that. I’m glad I got to see this on the real. @@savagesw yea there are pods in some jails where the COs are stationed inside the pod. Usually 2 of em at a guard desk. Other pods they're outside the pod in a hallway at a guard station or in a guard tower that is up in the wall looking into the pod. Hes just giving the name of the design of pods where the guards are inside the pod with the inmates at a guard desk
I have been to cook co 1 time for 12 hrs and I had an ibond I was transported 3 times to different divisions before I finally got to we're I was at. it was crazy, glad to see someone from chi-town.

If I'm not old enough to buy this shit, then I'm not gonna be looked at as grown in here(cause at 17 in the joint,who is?) I had to read the 48 laws of power and learned how to move with my mind. After 1 year there, the brothers would all tell me that I was too mature for my age, and have been ever since. For real here in mass he wudda got life. Minimum 25. They hand out life just for armed robbery up here left and right, 3-5 for first pistol, 5-7 or longer for second one.

Plus, if he had a public defender, the lawyer may not have wanted to do the work and maybe recommended the 12 yr deal.

The CO in the pod is called an “open concept” jail design. They’re common in Indiana.
