The way they just cut to him being gone. Man, that really hit me hard, even just thinking about this episode makes me choke up a little. Seriously, so good.
Ryan Kelley playing Ryan definitely stole the show in this episode. They way he was able to dig deep to get those feelings out is tough but he just nails it every scene.
A heartbreaking episode. Ryan is the first time we see Clark having all these abilities and still not being able to save someone. That ending with Angels or Devils by Dishwalla always bring tears to my eyes. Ryan was right in the fact that Clark did change a lot of peoples lives.
It’s crazy the impact one character made that’s only in two episodes. I give credit to the Smallville writers for having the guts to have him die in the end. I feel like a lot of shows anymore pull their punches and as a result don’t get this emotional depth. Also, the emotions surrounding his death were so well played. Give yourself credit, Tom! You did great in this episode! Also, always LOVE hearing what wasn’t scripted. The mayor saying “don’t laugh at me!” to Lex and the pauses Clark had in his conversation with Lana… awesome to hear how you as actors made these scenes that much better! Love this week’s episode! Thanks again! ☺️
Ryan & Reckoning, for me, two of the saddest episodes of entire series. I'm very happy with the guests❤ but it would be nice to bring Ryan Kelley on Talk Ville. Great episode 2,5 🌹
Absolutely! To this day, I still get teary-eyed at the end of both. It’s like no matter how many times I watch them I could never condition myself to toughen up and not cry.
@@taylemgames2652While I agree with the premise of your statement for obvious reasons. In the movie it shows the rotation going backwards and then Superman resumes the correct rotation after going back a few rotations. It’s kind of a cool effect, but time travel would have been a better explanation, as you said.
@@kevinarnold7957 Yes, I recalled it as just a creative representation of him going back in time through sheer speed, but I rewatched the movie the fact Superman turns back and goes around the Earth in the other direction in order to resume its regular rotation very strongly suggests it was more literal than that.
The music playing in the background after Ryan's passing captures the sadness so well for that specific scene. The musical beats in this show are always spot on not missing a beat.
@@abbysands9510 Agreed! One of the things I really appreciated when watching the episodes on TV as originally broadcast is that during the end credits they would do a picture insert with text titles of the songs used in the episodes and play snippets of the songs (with maybe a voice over too if I'm remembering correctly) so I was easy to write down the names of bands/CDs I was interested in buying. When I first got the DVDs I was really disappointed that none of that was included, and it bothers me to this day.
Such a sad episode. Ryan the actor was so amazing in portraying the character, so beautiful and emotional. Clark realizing that he can't save everyone especially someone he cares about is so heart breaking. I will give this episode: 🌹and a half
I enjoyed the fact that every character was working towards the same outcome, Ryan's well-being. Usually there are conflicting agendas from character to character but here we get to see a united front. I think that was one of the factors that made it such an emotional episode, especially when the combined efforts only achieved minimal success. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Ok so at the end during the scene with Ryan, Tom remembers Kristin was there with them; he remembers that little detail but he lost his memory during the epic kiss with her in the episode Red... You're killing me Tom !! 😂
One of the things I love most about this podcast, is how Tom is complimenting his young self in a 3rd person manner. It's very cool and very inspiring in a way
One of the saddest episodes next to Alecia’s storyline. Amazing episode and it really had me in tears when it was released. Grateful you three are reliving the Smallville episodes!
@@petermichaelwakeling Yes I lost my girlfriend in Gulf War in 1990 she was a radio technician communication center umm blowned up 😭😔 And when Clark lost Alicia to Evil Sandkid and she died off I cried with Clark Kent too as well as at the gravesite . 😭💔💔💔💔 More pain to bear again and again for me .

Fighting all the demons will take time.... are we ever gonna learn to fly.......I'm always gonna worry about the things that can make us cold. That is exactly what Clark goes through. He can see loving people get put through crap and suffer while the Luthors of the world flourish. Prime example (that you will see develop over time): Chloe Sullivan. Fighting the Luthors and Zods of the world. Worrying about what makes hearts grow cold. Clark's heart begins to grow cold. The lose of Ryan, his first encounters with Jor El (Exodus and Covenant), Jonathan Kents death and Zod's arrival, Chloe's struggle to stand by Clark. Massive losses and you see it take a toll. That's what I liked about Smallville and The Terminator TV series (TSCC): They did absolutely fantastic to show the burden put on people that carry the weight of the world. No matter how strong, intelligent, athletic, powerful, or skilled; the impact of fighting evil and giving a crap about others is an absolute crushing burden.
A plot hole for me is why the authorities don't stop to ask why Garner/Summerholt were hiding Ryan from the police. That alone should null/void the custody agreement and confirm malice. LOL But overall, it's a really great ep. Both times we see Ryan on the show, it gives really good insight into Clark. Also I love the continuity with Warrior Angel and the foreshadowing of how it applies to Clark and Lex. BTW - The song "Angels or Devils" by Dishwala is used to PERFECTION in this.
At same point between Stray and Ryan, Dr. Garner somehow convienently gained guardianship of Ryan when Ryan's aunt went to him for help. Dr. Garner does say to Sheriff Ethan he is his legal guardian. I like to think that Garner manipulated and convinced Ryan's aunt that he could help Ryan, but actually couldn't since Ryan has a brain tumor. He wanted to use the time that Ryan had left to just poke and prod Ryan's brain purely for research. They say in the show Sommerholt is a research facility, a place where you wouldn't have patients, so that would make sense, right? He was being treated like a lab rat more than anything, at least that's how I've always seen it.

When Talkville first started I was straight away looking forward to what Tom's memories were of working with the kid from Stray and later Ryan. I was so disappointed when he just basically said he didn't have any memories of him and I think Michael was the only one who did. I thought, how the heck can Tom have no memory of a young child co-starring with him as opposed to the usual crowd of 20 year olds pretending to be kids. You would think he would have stood out. So now we have got to the Ryan episode I am looking forward to seeing if Tom has had any new memories come to the surface! Lets hope so!
This episode is haunting. It’s crazy, right? CK can save and will go on to save countless lives but it’s the one life he couldn’t save that stays with him. The last bit of CK looking into that room at the empty hospital bed holding that comic it’s… haunting and as such it’s tough for me to watch this episode. It’s good, one of the best, really tugs at the heartstrings.
I loved the episode, Ryan. It was so sad that he died. I love the fact that Clark did everything he included to try and save him, but ultimately even with his powers, he couldn't save him. The thing that resonated most with me about this episode is that it does end very sadly and it shows that Smallville understands that not all endings are happy and it does a good job of hitting you in the feels
Re-watching these early episodes of Smallville reminds me of what I enjoyed so much about this show, the friendship between Clark and Lex, and I'm already dreading the point at which they become adversaries.
"All those things I can do . . . all those powers . . . and I couldn't even save him." For very personal reasons, that line from the first Superman movie has always really resonated with me.
Fantastic episode of the podcast. "Ryan" is such a great, and emotional episode that hits you right in the feels. Smallville was, and still is a fantastic show.
It’s a good and heartbreaking episode, my heart was totally broken and I felt so lonely when the bed was empty at the end 😭💔 I love watching Clark and Ryan relationship. But it got me really sad that he could’ve been his little brother, he deserved it so much lol I’m not overcoming it for the next 20 years again.

😅👍 I started re-watching Smallville a while after Talk Ville kicked off and was trying to watch just one episode per week but after a month or so I just started binging and finished all 10 seasons last month. 🙌 Probably only my 6th or 7th time watching the whole thing.
My favorite part of this episode was Clark’s super speed; up close and full of emotion. He is running to find he doctor that can help Ryan. I love his pleading with the doctor. Clark really does care about Ryan.
Love Tom sharing about the creative acting process! My daughter is a teenager and is in plays and wants to do film acting. Y'all's behind the scenes helps me understand her interests more...
She wanna be an actress? Well I really hope she's an indie movie, cheap TV series level cuz if she's big? Let's just say y'all don't want that, trust me! Love and light 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Such an heartbreaking episode💔 Even superpowers and medecine can’t overcome someillness !! And Ryan was abandoned by his aunt because of his perception’s powers, she is afraid of difference unlike the Kents !! Life is so unfair sometimes, this episode talks to us about that, and how i loved all the emotion in this TalkVille 💘💘 Michael 💙🙌 Tom ❤🙌 Ryan 💖🙌
I absolutely adore this podcast! I drive through to the office once a week on Wednesdays and this pod keeps me entertained while stuck in traffic. I grew up watching Smallville, so reliving these episodes with the two of you is next level awesome! Thanks for loving your fans after all these years!
This episode. *sighs*. It was really emotional. Kudos to all who pulled this episode. Because once I heard if an actor's acting is making you emotional, that means they are good actors. Long live talkville Always hold on to smallville.
This is one of Smallville's best episodes. As someone who watches the full series at least 3 times a year, this episode has always stood out as a perfect portrayal of Clark Kent. That scene on the hot air balloon at the end PERFECTLY displays why Clark is so special, and unlike any superhero out there. It's his humanity, his compassion, his intense need to better everything around him. Unlike most superhero characters, Clark does more than just simply beat up the bad guys, he tries to help them. This episode will never not move me. Total and absolute understanding of the character of Clark Kent. That even he can't save everyone, but that doesn't mean he wont go to the ends of the earth if it means there is a chance. A beautiful episode.
I started watching “Inside of You” when you did the interview with Jonathan Franks. I watched some others [Wil Wheaton., and Nathan Fillion], and notice you have a Smallville podcast. I have been watching everything back to back to catch up. I just lost my father unexpectedly in October of last year. I originally watched Smallville with my father. Rewatching and watching your takeaways and inside information has been nice. My father always liked to know how things were done, and watching this make me feel like my father is here again. I know you most likely won’t comment on this, but hopefully you do read it. I wanted to say your interviews are very good. You talk to people not down to them, which make them easy to watch. I always loved how you played the Lex Character, even when he went more evil, he was still a character I wanted to watch. Thank you, Tom Welling, and your families for all you have done.
It's such an emotional episode! It was our first time experiencing losing a character that we loved...seeing the empty bed was a tear jerker! 😢 awesome podcast, guys! ❤️❤️
Micheal. Tom is so right about being able to absorb the episodes weekly and being ready for whatever we were going to be shown next. It was hit and miss every week. But we would reset each week hoping the next would be our favorite yet. Alot of times they didn't disappoint as a superman fan of course.
This episode was a banger of emotions. Seeing Clark in a rare position of vulnerability where his powers aren’t able to solve the problem at hand by force was a great thing. Man Ryan was such a great character in both “Stray” in season one, and Season Two “Ryan”. Lex was an ultra talented in this episode. I love how he came in and basically checkmates the doctor from Summerholt .
Y'all changed my life when I was a teen, I went home from the skatepark early to watch smallville. I loved the cast and was hoping Tom would play superman on the big screen...I can still hope ❤️. Thx to Y'all
Such a tear jerker episode, Ryan did such an amazing job both times. Loved seeing Michelle bring out Lex's empathy, throughout the series even though we know Lex goes dark but how he teeters between the lines
The hot air balloon scene of this episode is one of my favorites of the whole series. Sad but beautiful and hopeful for the future. And it's also Ryan's favorite scene! Great minds think alike!
This episode broke my heart because of what happened to the Ryan character. I have a little brother but, we don't speak anymore & the kid that played Ryan did a fantastic job, & how he made me empathize with the character, as well as how he played a little brother to Clark. This episode hits me every time i see it.
This was one of my favorite episodes, I remember crying at the end 🥲 Ryan Kelly had amazing chemistry with everyone on set. Loved how they played with the super speed and how Lex tried to help Ryan, lots of foreshadowing. I also loved how Clark finally took charge and asked Lana to stay in Smallville. Thanks guys! ❤️
The "All those powers and I couldn't save him" episode, the second appearance of Ryan. The first one had me too when he said goodbye to him while the song Superman it ain't easy was playing. 😢 AWARD WINNING TELEVISION 😢❤️
I love how Tom will say he doesn't remember anything about the episode and then it leads into an intense discussion about directing and acting that includes stories about Clint Eastwood and Nicholas Cage. This is why i watch.
I absolutely loved the episodes featuring Ryan. Such a wonderful, emotive actor. His eyes were SO expressive. He just pulled you in and broke your heart. It opened Clark/Tom eyes to the fact that as strong as he was...there are some things even he can not fight. 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Really it's the first ep where Clark has a real loss. So far he's been able to meet and beat the challenges. I think it's important for his character development and the choices he makes by the end of season. Side note: this ep was beautifully emotional, held it together til that first shot of the hot air balloon then tears swelled up!
Man this episode made my eyes leek as a child first watching back in the day and still now as a adult ❤️💙🙏 This episode had a Powerful Proformace that is unbelievable By Tom Ryan Michael and All, This episode always got me because I lost a family member from cancer very close to home🕯️ Just Thank You no joke You guys are Hero's 🌹🌹🙏 Always enjoy your Story's on making these, Stay Amazing 👏
I always enjoy hearing y’all comments. This was definitely an emotionally driven episode. All the actors brought their A game. I enjoyed the interactions between Lex and Ryan. Both Clark and Lex were heroes in this episode. Clark for saving him from the hospital and Lex for the restraining order. I am not a parent but a good aunt and the thought of losing a child is painful. I thought that all the foreshadowing in this episode was powerful. Lex turning bad, Clark’s fortress of Solitude, Ryan warning Clark about Lex. Good point about the police listening to Clark. Overall a great episode. Y’all are amazing.
What an episode! One of the best but also so sad! I remember the first time I watch it, one of the episodes that you never forget . Best podcast! Love you guys!
This episode has my favorite and one of the most memorable moments of the whole series! The talk between Ryan and Lex in the hospital is just awesome writing, acting, the whole slam! My son was watching Star Wars and asked why Darth Vader became evil and I said “The path to darkness is a journey, not a light switch.” Then there’s the entire horrifying truth for Clark where you have the realization that he can’t save everyone. It’s a great episode! As always, love you guys! This always keeps me going!
I will say the trip on the balloon with Clark and Ryan was a powerful moment where you can tell Clark will honor Ryan's memory. Again amazing dramatic episode.
One of the saddest episodes of Smallville, but also one of the episodes where you can really see Clark becoming Superman.

I'm currently rewatching the whole series for the 10th time, on season 8 now.
This was about a two-and-a-half roses episode it's one of my favorite episodes of Smallville you're doing a great job keep up the good work
Love Tom sharing about the creative acting process!
First time I watched the series I was in High School and this episode hit me like an emotional truck
Long live talkville
Always hold on to smallville.
One of my favorites of the entire series.. love that Clark Ryan dynamic… thanks for another great Wednesday
This episode wrecked me! Fantastic, heart-wrenching episode! So much emotion! Amazing acting all around and Ryan was definitely awesome!
Beautiful episode. Rosey: you absolutely nail this one. Tom: goddamn it you made me cry. Ryan: keep being awesome 😂💯
Finally caught up to real time with the podcast. So happy you guys are doing this! Thank you!
I'm 3 months behind 😞 but quickly catching up!
This episode was omg broke me 😭 Probably one of the three most emotional episodes in entire Smallville 💔 Two and a half roses for it 🌹+🌹+0.5🌹
It's definitely one of the better episodes this season! Very emotional for Clark. Enjoyed the stream, Thanks 💯!
This episode broke my heart because of what happened to the Ryan character. I have a little brother but, we don't speak anymore & the kid that played Ryan did a fantastic job, & how he made me empathize with the character, as well as how he played a little brother to Clark. This episode hits me every time i see it.
Wow, the process you have to go through as actors. Thank you for sharing, it's amazing.
Not getting Ryan Kelley onto the podcast once again is insane, with how available the actor is and how beloved the character is.
They tried. That's all they can do is try
@@PlumbPitiful Well Ryan did died off Soo . 😭😔
The BLUR shout out from my favorite seasons to come! Can't wait!
Couldn't agree more with you. Kelley really was great in Smallville. Not to mention that he was only 16 years old when this episode was filmed.
Ryan was my favorite guest star Smallville
Very good episode :D
This is such a great, emotional episode and really the first sad episode of the show. The ending makes me cry so much.
This episode should have won all sorts of awards.
I hurt my hand😞😢
Tom's acting in this was incredible.
He is Superman.
So sorry for your loss Michael!!! Condolences to your friends family and loved ones
Really it's the first ep where Clark has a real loss. So far he's been able to meet and beat the challenges. I think it's important for his character development and the choices he makes by the end of season.
Side note: this ep was beautifully emotional, held it together til that first shot of the hot air balloon then tears swelled up!
Thanks for S02E08! 🍻🍻🥂🥂
One of the best episode of the entire show. 👌👌
Great episode. Definitely a highlight of the season.
Thanks guys for making my day at work fun. Takes my mind off stress during the day
This was one of the most memorable episodes of the show.
The scene with Ryan and Lex in the hospital was my favorite scene ever in the show!
Fuuuudge...."you were the best mom" got me tearing at work 😢
I'm not ready for this episode 😭
Muy fuerte este episdio, Ryan fue un gran personaje y marco la vida de Clark!
What an episode! One of the best but also so sad! I remember the first time I watch it, one of the episodes that you never forget . Best podcast! Love you guys!
Great episode about Ryan (and sad too). Looking forward to more episodes!
Whenever you see scenes with Clark and Lana it's growing pains where they always test each other by giving themselves life lessons.
They so want each other
But life is trying to stop them
The music for the Ryan episodes are always so good
I LOVE the song at the end, Angels or Devils.
Man this was one of my favorite episodes when I was growing up, awesome to hear what you fellas have to say about it
This episode has my favorite and one of the most memorable moments of the whole series!
Makes. Me. Cry. Every time. Love this episode
One of my favorites from the early seasons and the kid is such a good actor.
That last scene of the empty bed...that was heart wrenching! Such a well done episode...One of my fav from SV early years! #AlwaysHoldOnToSmallVille
This was such a heart-rending episode and Ryan excelled himself, the final scene brought me to tears 🥲
I love how the captions mark "Talkville" differently each time. By season 9 the show will be big enough for the algorithm to recognize
I will say the trip on the balloon with Clark and Ryan was a powerful moment where you can tell Clark will honor Ryan's memory. Again amazing dramatic episode.
