    Thank you Love of Pets for the tips, every winter, I try to find as many ideas as I can. I have resorted to getting small thermometers to place near where my birds are. I even got a small reptile one that I have yet to place inside the cage. Anyone using a heater should be aware that the air doesn’t get too dry. Use a steamer ( I read humidity warms air, not sure though), or, wet, wring out and hang a damp towel, anything to keep the air comfortable. Luckily my two male finch sleep in a basket or nest. I am thinking of weaving some sort of wide natural paper ribbon on three sides of my budgies cages, for a buffer against daytime cold air. With a cage backing a cold wall I thought of hanging cork or a styrofoam board behind. For outside the cage, I got some dollar tree imitation straw baskets (plastic), and made hanging cabanas out of them, by turning bottom side up, putting an elastic through the bottom center, adding a shower curtain clip to the elastic for hanging. Cutting an arch opening between the two handles and using elastic on each side to attach a twig across and through the two handle openings. So far the budgies like relaxing in the cabana, when cold or for privacy and some like to climb on top because even though it is plastic it has a woven basket texture and has openings to grab on to.

    3:36 It was so cute when your bird jumped up to your head. To me, it's normal to see bird owners walking around with a bird or two on their heads. But to others, they think it's crazy.
    Whenever I have a new friend or visitor over, they think it's hilarious when one of my birds climbs (or flies) up to my head. I typically just let them be there and continue doing what I was doing without missing a beat! Lol

    I use a red heat bulb on a thermostat control, to take the chill out of the air, this is in Florida when the temp goes into 40s and 50s, that’s cold for birds raised in Florida, I also use a aviary cover with roll up and down front, it gets cozy in there at night for them, once we are out of the winter chills the heat comes out and we are back to normal.

    I use blankets on their cages to keep my birds warm. we also keep their room (which is a separate zone) a bit warmer at night too & last year we put in a folding door & keep that closed which keeps all the heat in & makes it cozy down here for us too! My birds are in the den which is on the ground floor in my house. (I live in a split & every floor is a half a floor up or down from the one next to it.)

    Great tips. I was wondering how you keep your birds warm with the sliding door being used daily for the dogs to go in and out and you being in Canada. Love the electrical panel device and the tip on running the ceramic heater first before using them. We get snow here too and winters can be minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit but my home is a constant 68 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer year round.
    My birds always are covered at night. One cage is behind a couch and is quite cozy. The other two cages are against a wall in the middle of the house and the wall emits some warmth because of the water pipes run down from the 2nd floor. The down side is the birds hear all the water coming down and some imitated the sounds of water.
    One year after a hurricane hit our area, we were without electricity for 3 to 4 days and it was the fall (not snowing yet) but got really cold in the house. We had only Mango then and we kept his cage cover with several layers of blanket. While he was in his cage locked up, we set a boiled pot of water next to his cage to keep him warm and kept on changing the water when it got cold many times. We also filled up our hot water bottle with hot water and placed it on top of Mango's cage with several layers of blanket on top of it. We also let him out to fly around so his blood can warm him up and made sure we put away the boiled pot of water before Mango came out to fly. We brought these Hand Warmer packages intended for skiers or anyone to put in their pockets in the winter time to keep warm, with the intension of using them around and on top of the bird cages if we ever lose electricity again but luckily we never had to use them.

    GREAT VIDEO 🖤🐦⭐ I own Cockatiels and other bird species and have done my research for years. Most birds thrive at 67 degrees Fahrenheit to 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything below that can be too cold and cause pet birds to get sick anyting higher can cause them to overheat and become ill. I understand birds in the wild are able to resist higher temperatures and colder temperatures then most pet birds but wild birds are made to adapt and pet species tend to be a bit more delicate. Be very careful with your babies comfort level 🖤

    I heard some people using a hot water bottle and covering it with a couple of layers of towels for their bird to feel warm or using a heating pad underneath the cage on the low-med setting with a towel between the heating pad and the cage. I haven't tried it for our bird yet but it sounds like it could work.

    I love your bird room. That winter scene in the background is beautiful. I have 3 parakeets and I have read that strong smells can be deadly to birds. I know you’re not supposed to use the self cleaning option on the oven if you have birds. I’m getting a new electric range in a few weeks. Do you think that will be safe to turn on when it’s new or should I move my birds? Thanks!

    It's been down to 41 F (5 C) here in southwest FL, and when it gets cold like this my 4 budgies become quieter; alot less chirping during the day; they even tuck their heads into their wing area. I've got the heat on and the house is more comfortable. You mentioned heating food up and luke warm water. But I'm wondering if it's OK during this time to let the birds have more seeds. I know that a seed diet leads to fat problems, but I'm thinking that seeds now will help put on more weight and keep their body temperature more comfortable; and they will devour a millet stick in no time, so maybe seeds are proper now. Any advice on giving more seeds now?
    Also, Kingsley looks great.

    • @budgieyy
      @budgieyy 3 роки тому

      Good idea, I read that extra food helps farm animals keep warm in cold temperatures. What about adding egg (protein)to their meal? Millet spray I heard is mostly carbohydrate, maybe not as fatty ( unsure though).

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  3 роки тому +1

      You could give them a bit of millet but otherwise they can have the same food.

    I was thinking of using a small electric blanket ( the ones you use for back pain ) at a low temperature under the cage, so heat comes from the floor to the top instead of mounting it on one side. Is it a good option?

    • @Loveofpets

    Hi I took my ringneck parrots outside today. The weather was +10°C at that moment. After 1 hour I noticed they are fluffed up and one of them started shivering. I replaced them inside the house where temperature is 28°C . I am afraid now they might caught a cold. Some parrot owners said that No need to worry and told that parrots may survive in lower temperatures.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  8 місяців тому

      Hi, if Parrots are indoors and taken outside in the colder weather they will feel the cold and shiver. Birds that live outside 24 hours a day have been climatized and used to the weather change and they have shelter.

      Hi, yes I mention it in my video. Run the heater outside or in another room away from the bird's when new before placing it near your birds. There may be telflon on the new heater which is toxic to birds
