Th3Birdman basically all of them. It’s astounding how Jeremy “says” he knows this is all a fantasy, but he continually sins the movie for being a fantasy and takes it all at face value. As someone who has seen this movie, I knew this was a fantasy about Babydoll trying to escape, but I didn’t realise it went as deep as it did, especially with the sexual empowerment aspect. Thanks for helping to make me understand this better.
11:46 those are Caquot type barrage ballons, not blimps (also calling anything aerodynamic shaped "a dick." so original ) also at sin 91 planes in ww1 were made out of wood and wool canvas with non-self-sealing fuel tanks. meaning one bullet in the right spot can easily set the aircraft on fire . planes were dangerous to fly back then. that even normal straight and level flying to normal maneuvers could be deadly. i mean just look at the Nieuport 28. sin 94 you both misidentify the The LZ. 32 "zeppelin" as a blimp. the difference is that blimps have no internal structure giving them their shape. but you said exactly what i was going to say about the b25. yayyy!!!! thank you thank you
While John Browning designed the 1911 he was under contract to Colt and almost everyone calls it a Colt Model 1911. Perhaps they should have used his "upgraded" design the Browning Hi-Power. 😝
Same. I'm not smart enough to pick up on deeper levels of symbolism and metaphor, but I understood the surface level of it (brothel scenes are her way to escape and maybe somewhat "romanticize" her experiences in the asylum, action scenes represent the struggles she has even within her escape world) and this is actually one of my favorite movies.
mg682 me too honestly, I had it on dvd because it was cheap and I thought it looked cool, so I watched it. The movie was a trip but I couldn’t look away.
Jeremy: Movies being vague and me having to use my brain to understand what is happening is a sin. Also Jeremy: These damn movies spelling everything out. Too much exposition. Sin.
To be fair, too much in either direction can and is bad filmmaking. It should be properly in the middle, or slightly on one side or the other. IE: Some movies are so needlessly vague they end up detracting from the point and diluting/dumbing down the product by association. Some movies are so exposition heavy that it becomes far more boring and dull, where it should have just been shown. Ideally, with just the main factor to choosing the approach being what you trying to prove/show the audience at the given situation without overdoing it. But Jeremy couldn't actual use any of them to criticize anything really an issue to save his life; so you are right on that.
To be fair if the movie has gone 2 minutes with out a sin he can say "I'm hungry." SIN. "College girlfriend blah blah." SIN. "that character has a blue shirt on." SIN. I will admit though as much as he gets stuff wrong I do enjoy the way he presents his idiocy, it makes me laugh.....at times.
I'm glad I'm not the only thinking this. The problem with this video is the sins presented aren't all about the movie, many of them are the sins of the presenter not understanding and that makes it less of a sin of the movie. Though I still agree with the overall sentiments about the movie, it does suck pretty bad.

@@judeannethecandorchannel2153 Sure! Essentially the concept is a world that still runs off of steam power and clockwork. Usually, it has a very Victorian/clockwork aesthetic to it and other than that you can kinda do whatever with it, it's a very flexible concept, generally up to the interpretation of whoever uses it.
I did one years ago that pretty much takes the same interpretation, and I've seen a couple of others ("You don't understand Sucker Punch" was the name of one, I think).
There are several interpretations as it was made for the viewer to interpret as he experiences it. The way I saw it was from SP perspective about to be lobotomized while imaging her saviours doing all they could to save her. SP talks about an angel in the beginning, which is BD, and all they "did" is seen through the eyes of BD but re-imagined and glorified by SP, basicly imagining everything they might have gone through in a very glorified way to portrait her saviours as true heroes fighting against odds and performing feats which is a way of SP to immortalize and credit their efforts.

Wow... You actually helped me understand the film. I just thought it was a cool fighting film tackling the issue of sex trafficking, how traumatized children are taken advantage and other hard hitting topics in a fun, action packed sequence. Wow, so many layers in this film, I'm surprised Zack could write something this deep.
When I watched this movie, I thought it was beautiful, brilliant, and Browning-ful. When I found out others disliked it, I was genuinely confused. It had well crafted action scenes while telling a tragic and dramatic story. I thought that I missed something, since I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. @@jaburuperneta Snyder's fine, and while he has made some stinkers, just like almost every other director out there, he has had a ton of great movies: Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, Man of Steel, and he wrote Wonder Woman. Give the guy a break-- he's mostly a good director.
@@jaburuperneta Thanks for the compliment. Do you think that a bad interpretation of a character automatically makes a movie bad? If so, I would counter with Iron Man and (Sam Raimi's) Spider-Man. Those are actually poor interpretations of Iron Man and Spider-Man, but as movies, they totally work and are actually decent. For example, Peter Parker is nowhere near as whiny as Toby's Peter, nor does Spider-Man shoot organic webs from his wrist (to be fair here, there are stories where he develops organic webbing, but stick with me here). Tony Stark is a drunk in the comics, and it not only is a character defining trait, it's also the source for his best story arc in the comics-- Demon in a Bottle. So I guess my point is that MoS might be a bad interpretation of the character. But this doesn't make the movie itself bad, which is what I thought we were referring to. And MoS is a pretty great movie. At least, the audience seems to agree that it is.

I loved Sucker Punch when I viewed it in the theater and enjoyed the extended version even more. Out of all the movies CinemaSins failed to comprehend and screwed up, they got this one wrong the most. THANK YOU for this video :D
I'll be honest, my own personal theory is that Sweetpea did actually escape and that Babydoll was a real person. My reasoning? Carla Gugino's character says at the end that one of the things Babydoll did to cause chaos in her time at the asylum was to help another patient escape. But again, that's my theory and I could be completely wrong.
I gotta say, without your review I would've never begun to appreciate this movie more than I had when I was little and when everyone was saying it was a "bad movie". It definitely has thought and effort put into its story where it's now admirable.

Definitely one of my top fave videos from ya, Birdman. Great explanation of the movie while also recognizing the metaphors of the film. Plus that wad easily my favorite into of yours, but maybe that's because I'm biased.
THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who realized Babydoll was a projection, too. The fact that Sweet Pea is wearing Babydoll like a costume the first time we enter the brothel should have made that obvious, along with, clearly, the narration. This was my exact thesis for the video I made on the film: she's trying to cope with having accidentally killed her sister ("Have you ever wanted to just take something back?" "All the time.") Incidentally, is that actually Mimi Reaves in the thumbnail? It doesn't quite look like Emily Browning.
Not only is this a splendid pseudo-review of a criminally underrated movie, but it’s even jazzed up by tracks from Devil May Cry 3. Thank you, Th3Birdman.
As someone who missed the ENTIRE point of this movie, I really am glad I saw this. I've been binge-watching this series and I'm glad I learned something :3
Thank you for calling this out! I love Suckerpunch and when people refuse to pay attention to movies, they wind up convincing others their bad without understanding them.
Words cannot explain how closely I hold this movie to my heart. For some reason the faint memory I had when I was like 7 watching this movie makes it so much more emotional...i just love this
Jeremy is like Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. Anything metaphorical goes straight over his head. And seeing as how Sucker Punch is knee-deep in metaphor, I didn't expect anything else from him.
Thank You for selecting this movie. For years I've often wondered what the subject matter was about and I have seen the movie but I didn't completely understand what was transpiring at that time. Now I will go back and re-watch the movie with a better understanding of what is happening and the action sequences in the character's fantasy world.
I actually really liked this movie , but at the time I couldn’t figure it out, after multiple viewings I still didn’t fully understand, not until now, thank you Birdman!!! You gave the missing piece ... I look forward to a rewatch, much appreciated, you are gold
I would like to thank you birdman I must rewatch this movie with everything you have said now known to me maybe this movie was much better than I originally thought
Hell a part of me knew what the hell was going on in this movie, and i'm a dumbass. Shit... my littte sister, not knowing what was happening had an inkling about the 'dreams' being her inner demons. ... She being the one that opened my eyes to it... so, yeah.
This is one of the few movies I can say I actually understood, before catching a review and kinda've mixing opinions. Tho I will say the end did get me bc I saw it on cable once when i was younger and I can say I was sucker punched back then & I got sucker punched now that I understand xD
Sin 11, as a firearms instructor… agreed. Most people who have never held a gun can barely tell which end is up. It’s fucking terrifying how many times I’ve had people pointing loaded guns at themselves, been called to deal with negligent discharges and more. We have steel armor on the ceiling and bulletproof glass BEHIND the shooters for a reason.. an amateur with a gun is highly unpredictable.
Sucker Punch was it for me. It was so obvious that the movie was a fantasy and that the point completely bounced over Jeremy's head. Thank you, Birdman.
It’s interesting Jeremy’s first sin is how every pop song is a cover, yet when Queen’s We Will Rick You shows up in its original form, he sins it saying “Leave Freddy Mercury Out Of This.”
Björk's extended version of Army of Me, in this film is phenomenal, the roaring guitar, the soft vocals turning to throaty screams, fit perfectly with the sequence in the film.
Bro, nailed this intro! Love that song and action mash up! Also, great job on sinning CS on this movie as this was such a great movie and CS did a terrible job on sinning it. Keep it up man.
Hey Birdman, my *so hip and knowledgeable* friend, you are my newest UA-cam enthusiasm! Thanks for the kind invite to tweet at you for support. I just dropped your name on Wonder Woman FilmJoy essay, as one of the voices that teaches to take *joy* in these great films. 🥰😌🌿🌻
Back when this movie came out, my father and I thought it was one of the best action movies since The Matrix and were completely dumbfounded by all the hate it got. The story is a tad convoluted, but no more so than Memento and a few others that played with the story structure similarly yet were largely praised for it.
I’ve never heard of this movie, and at first I thought it was some weird anime adaptation with the school girl outfit and katana. The fact that Zach Snyder wrote it all is hilarious to me.
Wow, thank you so much for this video. When I was a kid and first watched this movie, I liked it but didn’t really have much of an opinion on it. I mean I though the action scenes and story was kinda cool, but I didn’t really get what was going on. Your analysis helped me understand it so much and gave me a whole new appreciation for it.
After all these years i finally understand what the heck this movie is about THANK YOU!!! i did enjoy it for the action but never really understood the story til now . now i gotta find out what streaming service has this movie lol
Here, here I fucking love this movie and the soundtrack.while so many people and so-called "feminist" hated this movie because they believed it exploited the female body. They completely missed the whole damn point of the story. Great job on the video needed this after the bleakness that 2020 is already facing. My favorite sins is whenever you point out how the manipulate a scene to justify their critique oh I'm sorry "satire" of the film.
Wow, man... I liked this movie the first time I saw it in the theatre just didn't understand it. You shared some interesting and mindblowing insights! Awesome, thank yuuu
3:31 Because of my Asperger's, I can't stand certain loud noises. Guns and fireworks being the main two, but I'm completely fine in a nightclub. However, my dad was a hunter so I have an appreciation for guns. Also I used to love studying what I would fear when I was a kid because it helped me realize things aren't so scary. I did notice it was an M1911 when I saw this movie and then learning Emily Browning was the lead at the end of the movie and I thought it was cool that they did that.
I loved this movie. I remember leaving out the theater jumping and cartwheeling 😂 I think it’s very telling that people were so pressed to see the actual dance. Such a good movie. I wish Zach would release his Director’s cut. Love your content per usual 💖
It's crazy because cinemasins can literally influence millions of people into thinking a good movie isn't good because they're not adept at actually criticizing a film. Probably deters people who might not have seen it too which is a problem if you ask me.

This was my exact thesis for the video I made on the film: she's trying to cope with having accidentally killed her sister ("Have you ever wanted to just take something back?" "All the time.")
Incidentally, is that actually Mimi Reaves in the thumbnail? It doesn't quite look like Emily Browning.
Birdman: Plays Devils Never Cry
Me and every true human being: Instantly likes video
Ian Davis and with Sucker Punch. I feel cancer was cured, world hunger solved, and there is peace in the world
I know
So, in order to be a true human being, you have to have played a Devil May Cry game? That seems very presumptuous of you.
@White-Van Helsing I don't get it. What's Killer is Dead?
I've never seen this movie before but that intro got me interested and hyped as hell
Dude! That DMC sound track!! If I wasn't a fan earlier I would have been just on this vid
That ME!ME!ME! reference I see you are a man of culture.
You should see my phone’s background lol
@@Th3Birdman Is that an offer because I wouldn't mind.
Not only is this a splendid pseudo-review of a criminally underrated movie, but it’s even jazzed up by tracks from Devil May Cry 3. Thank you, Th3Birdman.
ngl, one of the best intros yet
As someone who missed the ENTIRE point of this movie, I really am glad I saw this. I've been binge-watching this series and I'm glad I learned something :3
Neveruary 33rd! That's the day right after I get a gf! I have to remember this!
Im going to go back and rewatch this. Maybe i was too young to appreciate it cause i thought it sucked.
Thank you for calling this out! I love Suckerpunch and when people refuse to pay attention to movies, they wind up convincing others their bad without understanding them.
Finally! Someone else who actually likes this movie! I feel like I just joined an exclusive club! Thank you for shutting up the sinners, Birdman!
I can recognize that dmc music everywhere
Ty so much for this
Words cannot explain how closely I hold this movie to my heart. For some reason the faint memory I had when I was like 7 watching this movie makes it so much more emotional...i just love this
Aaaah Devil May Cry music, I see you to is a man of culture!
I was sleep when you uploaded, but you were definitely the first video of the day ☺️
Devil May Cry 3 Cerberus theme in the outro? Excellent.
1:26 Also, Jeremy says “every single song” but the original version of Bjork’s Army of Me is in the film. Ding, I guess
I’ve always loved this movie even though sometime I had no idea what was going on thank you for explaining it
Jeremy misses so many obvious things. 😖 Imagine CinemaSins trying to sin a Darren Aronofsky movie like _The Fountain_ or _Mother!_
Jeremy is like Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. Anything metaphorical goes straight over his head. And seeing as how Sucker Punch is knee-deep in metaphor, I didn't expect anything else from him.
Or Requiem for a Dream.
Oh no... a CinemaSins video of Mother?????!!??!???
Thank You for selecting this movie. For years I've often wondered what the subject matter was about and I have seen the movie but I didn't completely understand what was transpiring at that time. Now I will go back and re-watch the movie with a better understanding of what is happening and the action sequences in the character's fantasy world.
Saw the intro and decided I’m gonna watch the movie first before I finish the rest of the video lmao
I actually really liked this movie , but at the time I couldn’t figure it out, after multiple viewings I still didn’t fully understand, not until now, thank you Birdman!!! You gave the missing piece ... I look forward to a rewatch, much appreciated, you are gold
Yes using Devil May Cry 3 - Devils Never Cry song for that opening it fits so well!
Ok, I didn't know how much I needed a Sucker Punch / DMC mash up. Lol
Sucker Punch was it for me. It was so obvious that the movie was a fantasy and that the point completely bounced over Jeremy's head. Thank you, Birdman.
Also congrats on that intro with the dmc music that shit was AWESOME!
I'm proud to say that I watched this movie when I was 14 years old and I understood it better than an adult that "reviews movies" to live
I saw this as a kid and you’ve done more to explain this than Jeremy ... thanks 🙏🏾
Ohhhh who heard that DMC music in the into and got pumped!?!? Cause I DID!
12:51 Hey, it's the guy from the EWW Cinemasins Toy Story video!
I still love this movie so I’m glad to see someone else does too!!
It’s interesting Jeremy’s first sin is how every pop song is a cover, yet when Queen’s We Will Rick You shows up in its original form, he sins it saying “Leave Freddy Mercury Out Of This.”
A Th3Birman video about Sucker Punch that used DMC3 OST....
Things are only getting better and better!
Mate, we need to get you on EFAP.
Best yet evidential Sinning CinemaSins' ass-kick.
Congrats Th3Birdman!
Good luck out there
Björk's extended version of Army of Me, in this film is phenomenal, the roaring guitar, the soft vocals turning to throaty screams, fit perfectly with the sequence in the film.
Agreed. Beautiful tune. I love nearly every song on this soundtrack. The crazy part is, almost all of them are remakes.
Bro, nailed this intro! Love that song and action mash up! Also, great job on sinning CS on this movie as this was such a great movie and CS did a terrible job on sinning it. Keep it up man.
right! soundtrack is life! and I loved this movie so there. lol loved your take on actually understanding this film! thank you!!!
THANK YOU. I've always loved how deep SuckerPunch is and never got why other people hated it. It never occurred to me that they're just dumb.
Man I had to run that intro back twice nice DMC music.
the intros are always so dope, might have to figure out my old insta to see all of them
Gotta say I really appreciate the devil may cry 3 intro. Brought me back to when I was 6 years old
Damn!! Haven't seen the movie but Emily Browning is beautiful, liked her since the Unfortunate Events movie, also Isaac before Star Wars fame
Devil never cry was a lovely intro for this
Love the Devil May Cry 3 theme in the intro!!!
Thank you, Birdman for reminding me how much I enjoyed this film. Gonna go watch my extended cut blu-ray
Feminism today is not true feminism. It started as equality of the sexes, now it's just blatant visceral hatred for men.
Wow, man... I liked this movie the first time I saw it in the theatre just didn't understand it. You shared some interesting and mindblowing insights! Awesome, thank yuuu
12:49
"Field Marshal Monster von Zombieberg"
I honestly cackled at it, but yeah, I can see why it got dinged here. Can't blame you.
I did notice it was an M1911 when I saw this movie and then learning Emily Browning was the lead at the end of the movie and I thought it was cool that they did that.
thx for giving me flashback to that cerberus fight.
I know this video was a little while ago, but I'm only watching it now and just for playing Devils Never Cry at the beginning you get a like from me
This movie is bad ass I don't care what anyone thinks
You probably think that Fast and Furious is the modern day Citizen Kane lol
PharaohsKingdom n o
Love this movie since the release date. Saw it in theater 3 or 4 times, even more at home. Everytime it's awesome.
The Cerberus theme at the end was great. A man of culture i see.
