"Hypersonic was the last song we composed of the four new compositions. We knew we needed an opener that was just going to take peoples’ heads off from the minute you hit play. Paradigm Shift opens with this 5 second run that just punches you in the face. This time around we open with a 30 second run before we even settle into the main riff and groove. It was absolutely designed that way and to me it's kind of a cross between Acid Rain and Paradigm Shift mixed with a lot of The Dance of Eternity kind of insanity. We purposely threw everything including the kitchen sink into that one." - MIKE PORTNOY
"As we were putting the album together, we all felt that there needed to be a track that had some chops and speed and that frantic nervous energy that a song like Paradigm Shift from the first LTE album or Acid Rain from LTE2 had - something heavy and full of energy. This song definitely checks off that box. There are a lot of intricate, full-band unison moments where the challenge is to be as locked as possible and I think those types of passages on this song are a testament of how well we work together. This song really reflects the personalities of all four of us and has a lot of very musical, as well as quirky moments, that just make it a very fun ride." - JOHN PETRUCCI

Their cover of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue is just so unbelievably epic!!!
I love it! Their take is unique and such a great homage to the classic at the same time.
Keep in mind, the average age of all the members of this band is around 62 years old, that is going from 53 to 76. If I go back some 30 years ago, most songs that I've heard from 50+ folks were either cringy love songs or church organ!

By the way the Bassist playing the Chapman Stick is Tony Levin and he's 76 years old. Born in 1946. He's played with everybody.
This came out during the pandemic lockdown, they were each in their home studios crankin' it up on their own. Not only is their music mind-boggling, but the production is nothing short of awe-inspiring. BTW, by this time you've reacted to enough Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment songs to at least know the names of "these guys", or "these musicians", or "that guitar player", or "that drummer is slaying it"... just saying!

You guys do realise the guitar player and keyboard player are from Dream Theater right? And this drummer is the ex drummer from DT. The bass player is the only one that hasn't been in DT.
Just another reason to love Dream Theater, and so on...........

Suzy is right they are not human its is the only way it would b fair, for anyone who isnt aware 2 of the founding members of this band are current dream theater members it was 3 at one time until portnoy left keep up the great work work guys i am a huge dream theater fan for 30 years just an insane band cant be compared to anything there is nothing that can compare to it
They are a great progressive rock super group. You should check out a death metal super group called Blotted Science. They are instrumental as well. Lots of energy, like a freight train.
Serious question, doesn't death metal mean that primal screaming for singing? If they are instrumental then how are they death metal?
@@scorpiusbalthazar4327 In my opinion singing doesn't define music. What the musicians are playing does. What Blotted Science plays could be sung over. However there's no need because what they play keeps your attention. With no singer the musicians have more freedom to be expressive an not have to leave room for the singer.
Funnily enough, the part in this song that’s at 5:50 in the video sounds a lot like a Ron Jarzombek riff. Definitely agree that they should react to Blotted Science, Machinations of Dementia is probably my favorite instrumental record of all time!
