- One World Trade Center (also known as One World Trade, One WTC, and formerly Freedom Tower) is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. One WTC is the tallest building in the United States, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the seventh-tallest in the world. The supertall structure has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 16-acre (6.5 ha) World Trade Center site, on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center. The building is bounded by West Street to the west, Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, and Washington Street to the east.

yes. was only a few months old when 9/11 happened but was born and raised in nyc. going downtown in that area just never feels right.

That walk inside the center felt really futuristic, the shape of the building, the ceiling/stairs ads rolling by on the walls. And then the speaker "please maintain your distance" :D, this is how I would have envisioned the 2020's when I was a 80/90's kid.

That entrance view in incredible, it looks like the inside of some alien ship. The pointed arch design is amazing, there are no pillars in any part of the centre of the structure. That wall of t.v. screen must be the longest ever built, it looks seamless. I like how you don't talk, the viewer can adsorb all the surrounding sounds. Excellent vid

I went to ground zero I believe it was 2006 and I must say the energy that I felt was so unreal, one minute I was crying, then I was angry and confused, and then I was terrified, I still get chills just thinking about it, and crazy thing is, I took a picture when I was there and you can see little white dots all around me smh I was told they were spirits.

As a New Yorker myself , I always had trouble going here. I lived in Brooklyn when I was a few years old during the tragic events. 😔 we seen it from my house view as I was forced to come back home from school. I was always interested in going but never have. Yesterday I did and it was amazing. I agree with lots of people. I had so many emotions, I was sad, teary eyed and also just amazed how it looked in person, looking to the top was spectacular even with my fear of heights. I’m back in Staten Island now where I currently reside from.
But yesterday was a special moment for me . New York City is and always will be the best place to be 💯 ❤️ New York

I went here on my bday this past June. I was looking for the 9/11 Museum (didn't have my glasses at the time lol) when I accidentally wandered into this gorgeous place. Once I came back in later on, there was a woman singing opera while guys were playing instruments. I can't wait to go back again.

I thought they changed the name of it from “Freedom Tower” to “World Trade Centre/Center”.

I have to say NYC is very resilient. Cleaning up such a mess and building another magnificent structure. Let's just hope some idiot doesn't try to blow it up. Seeing that one guy going in with a backpack kind of raised my suspicions.

Love that huge open area in the middle of the Oculus. It's not anything like the Austin J Tobin plaza, but it certainly reminds one of the scale of this site. Also the PATH looks to be about where it always was. I assume people can still come in, do their shopping, go upstairs, have lunch, and go back home all without going outside. Certainly a favourable prospect this time of year.

The Oculus was designed to replace the former World Trade Center subway platform as well as the mall that was built running under 1 and 2 WTC. The Oculus and the New 2 WTC are built on where 5 WTC Stood.
Also added was a full extension of Fulton St to the West Side Highway. Greenwich St now runs from Vesey to Liberty.
I have not been to the new WTC and the memorial. I have not been to Ground Zero since 2005 and not sure I want to.
I didn't like the idea for the complex being rebuilt.
It was sacred ground.
You had people's remains all over that complex that day, not just around the 2 towers.
That whole complex is sacred ground in my opinion.
However commerce needs to go on I guess. It will just take some time to get use to having a new center.
I will say I am glad we got the person responsible for this attack.
Never forget all the FDNY, NYPD, PAPD members and the civilians who were murdered that day.

The thing about the World Trade Center is that they can't just leave it as unused "sacred ground" because it's essential for commerce and trade both in the U.S. and the world. The architects know that the land was the site of a tragedy which is why most of the center (mainly the area where the Twin Towers stood) is now a peaceful park where people can grieve and reflect on the lives that were lost on 9/11 far away from the loud chaos of NYC.
I understand that you feel like building around the WTC feels like you're disrespecting a mass grave, but you need to understand that NYC and Manhattan specifically need to utilize all the limited space that they have.
I saw the documentary of it's process, Donald Trump even insisted on re-building the two towers as they were before, but bigger!... Imagine if he was the one on command with the development, luckily he wasn't.
The site had to be rebuilt, before the area was destroyed on September 11th, the World Trade Center was where most trade in The US & World was handled at, when they went down, The New York economy was pushed down majorly so that’s part of the reason the site had to be rebuilt, I’m honestly glad they did.

It has to be haunted in the new World Trade Center, all those people died so tragically, they should invent a giant hot air balloon fabric material, so if the building gets hit it automatically goes all the way up the building that goes around the whole building so people could slide down and live and not suffer, all that money and they can't think of an new invention?

Videos do not do it justice!! I went there just 2 weeks after this was filmed. The top of the tower was covered in rain clouds for a little bit. It's such a massive building

I'm a naive Midwesterner but it seems odd that you can just waltz right into a place that probably has the highest terrorism threat in America...
It's safe, airport security increased after 2001
It’s a really safe place and yes I find it odd too. But they increased security so it should be more safe than it was before.
The building was designed to sustain an airplane attack much better than the original towers and the security inside the building is super tight so there is no way that the building would be blown up from the inside. Airport security has also gotten waaaay more strict since 2001 so it's very difficult for a group of hijackers to get into a plane without getting stopped by airport security.
In other words, OneWTC is basically Fort Knox in skyscraper form and is one of the most protected buildings in the world.

I was in the city few weeks after the towers fell , my father who is passed on now and was living there took us there and he told us you need to see this … and I think his point was of the world , war , the Evil that men can do . I was there and I seen the two holes and and other buildings that fell it’s smelled rank of death and was dusty it was a sight a moment and a feel that stays with me , I am glad we fought the war and held those responsible glad that New York is still strong this event forever changed the USA and the the world

There are separate places for the Museum and the Memorial. This is just a shopping mall. Hope this clarifies things for you :-)

When I went to New York, next to One World Trade Center there were 2 huge squares, almost the same size as the base of the blue building, and when I got closer, I saw names. I don't understand anything, does anyone know what it is?
