I might be very impressed with the segmented projects but this is a textbook live edge bowl that was a pleasure to watch become what it is. I'm glad that bark stayed put. Those little spots of unexpected chatoyancy are always a nice find. Great work, Gary!
Thank you Jay for your comments they are much appreciated. This was really fun to turn. I had the blank in my shop for quite awhile and this is what I was seeing every time I looked at it. Now for the other half of the log. But it does have a lot of cracks on the end. Thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Walnut is one of my favorite woods and I have a ton of it. My neighbor had a huge Walnut tree trimmed and I got most of the wood. Your bowl is simply gorgeous!
Well done Gary. You produced a beautiful bowl. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂 PS don't let the making of videos get in the way of recovering your health.
Lovely bowl Gary. Really beautiful colour ( we spell colour different to you guys on the other side of the pond 😊). Plenty of shine & reflection from it. 👍🏴

Good looking dish, Gary. You make push cuts look so easy ... I still have to work on those. The size and shape of this piece is just right for the color of the wood. Take care.
Thank you very much Qapla. When you still have lots of stock on your blank is a good time to practice. And do it on a wood that cuts good. This will give you a better chance to get it down. Have fun turning my friend, Gary
It's kind of fun doing an easy turning I'd say Gary . I don't do the segmented but I do run into a doozy every now and again . This is a really beautiful bowl . And I love the chatoyance and the grain on the inside . Great job Gary . We hope you have agreat weekend . Stay cool . It hit 112 down here today .

That bowl is absolutely beautiful! I love working with walnut. My walnut end tables are my best sellers. When we harvest a walnut tree on the farm, I use every thing; the log, limbs, and branches.
Thank you James. Sadly they think the tree that this branch came from may have to come down. The family is getting offers for the main paert of the tree. But they really do not want to loose it. Hope it survives. Thanks for watching, Gary

Beautiful piece and beautiful wood Gary. That walnut looks great. Interesting coincidence that you and Phil both turned the same shaped bowls this week.
Thank you Mark. Yes very interesting. It has happened a few times but it certainly is a coincidence. I had this one loaded a few weeks ago and set to run yesterday. When I watched Phil's video I thought how did this happen LOL. But chances are there will be a live edge coming from Phil but not always with this shape. Now we have to see Phil turn a segmented turning the same week I do...not too likely but that would be cool. Thanks for watching, Gary

Most excellent finish, this is just a prime example of what can be done with a piece of Black Walnut when you put it in the hands of a craftsman. Well done, my friend, keep'em coming! 😊 Phil
