I really liked what you said about “being your own patron.” I’ve been working a part-time job in the food industry ever since high school, and sometimes, the hours spent working feel so draining because I’m always so focused on the craft I could be doing instead. This video really inspired me to switch my perspective. This job, in fact, is allowing me to fund what I love, pursue skateboarding and my degree, and keep me fed. I’ll keep working hard!
Lots of great ideas in this video, I'll have to check out that book! Most people (but artists especially) don't realise how much opportunity they have to make good money thanks to the internet.
I just recently finished "Real Artists Don't Starve" as well. Good book and actionable advice. My only qualm was what you talked about with idea #4 re: location. This part of the book really challenged me and kind of upset me for a day or two because I couldn't think of a good scene in my area for me to access inspiration. Perhaps I don't know about it yet, which you mentioned as a possibility. But I don't think Goins did the best job explaining how to find your scene. I asked a bunch of people around me how to find a good scene of writers - the only real answer I got was NYC, which I don't find to be a good example, lol. I think the internet gives people the ability to find a scene without having to move cities or states or even trek down the road to some coffee shop or whatever. And I personally find a lot of inspiration through reading as you mentioned. So maybe it's just in front of me and I don't know about it yet. But I also feel like the way Goins described it wasn't completely fair or accurate.
Waiting for things to be perfect is a mistake I have made for many years. This video can save someone a lot of time and change the course of someone's life if applied. Great and very valuable work brother. Keep creating value. You are doing god's work.
Morning Brew no way! Ive been reading there news emails every single morning for the past two months! Keep going your channel deserves more recognition!
just got a 100k a year job this year. I still live like a broke college student and invest every penny I get. I will become a millionaire soon and I will hit that goal.
It's nice to see a popular self-improvement UA-camr like you promoting smaller guys like Bulldog Mindset and 1STMAN. They give solid advice and deserve attention for it.
Brilliant video. I liked specially the part about your day job being the fuel for your creative dreams. So many people despise traditional jobs and pursue creative work without having any money, your take on it seems more realistic and achievable.
I found out your channel recently and I'm so thankful. The stuff that you talk about is actually what I needed right now. My life has kinda come to a halt and I need to get back up. Thanks man!
This video hit me. I wasn't paying my whole attention, but the parts I caught are impactful. I'll watch it again later to try to capture the whole message.
*Great breakdown of the different skills to grow success. It's important to grow yourself, but a significant part of your success is to learn specific skills which you become an expert in and can monetise*
''You're probably one skill or one contact away from making radical progress in your career.'' Those two things have caused the most amount of frustration in my life thus far.
I've trapped myself by not investing in myself until I already start to see success. Stuck in a low quality loop and putting up arbitrary barriers between myself and my goals. Im making it much harder then it needs to be. I guess I'm not convinced that what I'm making/want to make is worth anything. Regardless, thanks for another great video with excellent advice. I'm tempted to enroll in Sinbad school but this already feels like I got free tutoring.
Being your own patron is the the key for most I think. Because most of us don't know wealthy people to fund our dreams. I've been my own patron for the greater part of a decade, and have now reached financial independence so that I no longer have to work. Now I have to time to focus fully on my creativity.
11 years in photography/film, there’s much of this video that rings true, especially location. Hope to see you plugged into the incredibly talented film scene here in Minneapolis.
You’re likely coachable too, which always helps :) …I was a high performance competitive rowing coach for many years, who also hired a lot of coaches - the most important attribute to look for in a good coach is patience. There are of course other important attributes, but genuine patience with the people you’re coaching will create more results than anything.
another banger bro, to live in a city I love doing UA-cam fulltime I've calculated my necessary expenses to only be £800 a month tops, if I can achieve that I will be totally in control of my life, completely free to pursue my fucking biggest passion as my career, lets get it boys.
I would like to add something on to the “ practice in public” point . Yes it’s very true that creativity is very high /people can create better when people work in groups . But i think it’s also important that you can find people who are in the same page or at the same level of creativity , let me give you a personal example , i do music as a hobby and i am slowly starting to get more into it , while doing that , me and my musician friends just kinda jam together and practice together and try to compose our own stuff and we bounce ideas off of each other , but each one of us interested in a different style or even a different genre of music , and often while playing and making songs atleast one of us is not really into it . While this example might be irrelevant to a lot of you , i think what we can learn from this is , similar to musical genres we need to find people who are in the same creative genre too , as working with people who don’t align with us creatively can be very unproductive and discouraging
3 minutes in when I got to "Under the tutelage of a master" made this video all worth it. That's when you remember to press the like button before you forget.
What did you learned from Bulldog Mindset in particular? Also I think whole video about how to find mentor would be a good one. People say "find mentor", but how do you find mentor? How do you choose mentor? What is your relationship with mentor should be? So many aspects to go into detail about here.
Fantastic ideas in here. Brand integration was smooth. I need to start pushing Morning Brew into my main inbox so I don’t miss it. CNN, although I look at it, really is crap and it’s just depressing.
Love this. Always feel like everything you speak about and discuss are topics or ideas that I’m thinking about internally - like going to certain places for the energy and the subsequent creative/ambitious surge. Very interested in your coaching services bro, let’s speak over IG. 🙏🙏
Coaching can also save you from doing things wrong, this can be fatal if you are doing heavy weights. If you are a beginner to fitness i recommend you to get a coach who has gone to school and who know`s about nutrision from school. The reason for this is because you are a beginner. At this level it is important to do ALL THE STEPS the right way. This is because you don`t want to get injured. If you are over this level. That is if you have all ready had a coach that has the academics and have been doing the work for some time. Now is the time to find that " guru" type. That is the more " individualistic" coach who can give you the inspirasjon to push you to the next level. This mentor don`t need to be someone you see face to face, it can be you listening to let`s say David Goggins and he inspiring you to push your limits to the next level. At this point you know have the knowledge of how to do things the " correct way", and at this point it is time to be more creative and to find your own " style" and rutine. 2-3 years from this point and you are now ready for even beeing a coach yourself
I love how most people assume creativity is in the arts? The assumption is always STEM to the Arts, especially after ‘3 Idiots’. There’s more to creativity which is not exclusive to the arts.

A lot of value here! Thank you for sharing!

What an amazing quote. Thanks for sharing
Where did he say that? I need to reference it.
Glad to see First Man getting the attention it deserves
Lots of great ideas in this video, I'll have to check out that book! Most people (but artists especially) don't realise how much opportunity they have to make good money thanks to the internet.
Another great video man. I’ve never heard of the book but I just got it on audible thanks for that 👌🏻

Goodness this was great, really resonated with what you were saying and I love the practical side of these ideas.

Patronage point was great!
The Arts needs Patrons. It’s hard to sustain a career on your own money. I just wish it wasn’t that way.
1:06 A minute in and I’m chuckling at the antics 😂
0:42 Nice Hide n Seek, Bellroy wallet Nikhil ;) I have the same one haha 😊
Packed with perspectives and information, that's why I always watch your videos... Well done bhai 👏👏
