  • This is the detailed description of an advanced technique for making Rhop's that I would like to call the "Sherlock" method. I essence we bring the OD and the ID of the silicone tube to the OD and ID of the barrel prior to cutting. Using a simple jig and some super glue we are able to create nice even and identical vertical cuts that match the window depth. The goal is to remove variation from the process, and make it highly repeatable. While being slightly more complicated its a much simple install and requires virtually no tweaking or adjusting after the fact. Part 2 on flat hopping the bucking and Part 3 on the hopup unit will follow shortly.
I apologize for the length and may try putting chapters in below:
If you have further questions you can find me on the airsoft subreddit under the username lSherlockl or you can send me a message.

This helped me get the concept greatly, mainly I was worried about pinch jams, but seeing how you beveled the front and back of the patch and left a slight gap gave me what I needed to know. I've put some serious money into an A&k svd did a flat hop. Worked well but not as reliable and consistent as I want. I'll report back with results. Thanks!

Many thanks for this guide! it's brilliant and foolproof. And much easier than my faffing with razors O had been doing.

Are you able to do a more detailed video on how you created the negative to the hop window? I'm trying your method with varying results.

I will make a update video that can go over that a bit better and include some refinements to my methodology.

Looks good!,I know others have asked, but i would also appreciate links to the different tubing and rods you used for this process I couldn't find the plastic rod you used to find the depth or the "emery" bit that you used, do you think this would work? www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DPKGODS/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AS7VB9OCJNT4I I know its ceramic but its the closest thing i could find to 6mm.
I'm about to order the materials after watching your barrel lapping video too but i cant decide on what laps to use from shapeways, any help would be appreciated.
