It literally is, and it's a revelation I came to recently.
Char seems different than his earlier interpretations, on purpose, because he's a shell of a man by that point.
Literally took huge L's repeatedly. Decided to basically sell his soul and kill the planet as a final act, or die trying.

AEUG is primarily consisted of ex-EFSF personnels like Bright Noa. Even Char got in using a false identity of ex-EFSF officer. The Sleeves are the remnant of Char's Neo Zeon. Kabala is AEUG's ally pn earth. AEUG is funded by Anaheim while Kabala is funded by Lou & co. Surviving AEUG members joined Londo Bell.

I agree with this video but my problem with the Sleeves and Zeon were so fanatical that mass genocide always slips in to them because of those early Zabi beliefs. This is why I liked Mineva because her way of doing things is like the middle road between sleeves and aeug

The problem with the Side Co Prosperity sphere was it being based on Imperial Japan's Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. That idea failed due to ethoncentrism by Japan and treating the other Asian countries as colonies of their own to siphon resources along with crushing any nationalistic independence movement they inspired.

I think comparing the Sleeves to the AEUG is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. About the only commonality they share is they are the primary antagonist to the Federation because both factions have vastly different ideals. The AEUG was more a response to the oppressive Titians and once they where dissolved they merged with the Federation for better or for worse. While Sleeves is a remnant group of a remnant group that stems from ideology of Spacenoid independence and to a certain degree spacenoid supremacy.

They maybe alike with AEUG in terms of goals but their plan of actions are more akin to Titans
Their terrorists attacks on unicorn showed how far they would go especially on using some of the zeon remnants on the attack resulting to large civilian deaths
Their plan would always fail considering the co prosperity sphere would undoubtedly include side 3 which is being ruled by someone who wants zeon to rise again. Also some of the sides hates side 3 considering their past actions.
The sleeves may have stated they want peace but all their actions and end goals would lead to war
I also think that the members are just looking for an excuse for a fight to fulfill some desire to die on a battlefield or just fight for the sake of it
Thus sleeves are nothing more than bunch of terrorist with misguided beliefs
    *plays Titan theme music*

This, by god this. The only way that any Gundam!Sol across the various Gundam timelines is going to NOT have that cycle of violence is to have someone come in from OUTSIDE the situation and then crush them and crush them HARD. Then go full ideological scrubbing that makes what happened to Japan and Germany look significant. Strip them of their industrial might completely (even taking the basic industry!) and force them to dependent on the conqueror to survive.
If they won't stop fighting? Well then, start obliterating cities until either of two endings happen: a) they surrender or b) you run out of cities to obliterate.
Practically every Gundam show is well into the Hobbes end of the spectrum of 'how good is humanity'.

    • @nemisous83
      @nemisous83 5 років тому +31

I think comparing the Titians to the sleeves is about as nonsensical as comparing the sleeves to the AEUG. Most if not all of the civilian deaths where a result of collateral damage while engaged with Federation forces. Again people like to blame sleeves for the battle at side 7 but dont ever blame Londo Bell for blowing a hole in the side of colony and engaging the Sleeve mobile suits.

    • @TheTrueAdept

@@nemisous83 Londo Bell had decayed rapidly in the years between Char's Counterattack and Unicorn, and even worse after that until Londo Bell was all but disbanded after the war with Cosmo Babylonia. Hell between the time of the F91 movie and manga series and Victory, Londo Bell had been disbanded and the Federation was all but dead. No wonder the Federation died an inglorious death before the events of Savior (even though it has been effectively retconned out of existence).

@@TheTrueAdept I mean it was bound to happen, Commodore Blex was the only person in the AEUG save for Char that shared in the ideology of moving humanity into space. Most AEUG members where comprised of businessmen, disgraced or disenfranchised Federation officers, and a few former Zeon pilots. so naturally once the dust settled and the Titians where gone the ex Federation fellows would want to merge with the Federation and the Zeon would merge with Neon Zeon. Thats why Londo Bell essentially became a more tamed version of the titans... with less mass murder.

    • @JeanLucCaptain
      @JeanLucCaptain 5 років тому +13

I agree. The whole Starve the Earth wouldn't work because too many people in space make money of off shipping or making that food. 2nd: the sleeves are the bare bones remnants of Zeon. They have almost nothing left in terms of a military force and so the federation would simply use that to exterminate them. 3rd: the feds have the Group's colony laser.

You very briefly talked about Hathaway’s Flash in this video, but I think that something like this could be touched upon in the upcoming film adaptation (s) for that. Mufti already kinda sorta resembles A.E.U.G (though they are much more overtly terrorist-like), but even in the original novel, their main Mobile Suits are the Messers, the souped-up Geara Dogas, which are a bit strange, since they don’t specifically call themselves Zeon, but I could see something being said there about how several Sleeves people went to Mufti after that thing stopped, or maybe even having the Republic of Zeon helping out Mufti from the shadows, strengthening the AEUG comparisons (though I guess the Karaba equivalent would be the main branch in that situation?)

Neo Zeong is a microcosmic of why Zeon never wins, put too much time and resources into super weapons that don't change the game. But... operation Stardust was not genocide. The plan "was" to destroy Jaburo but in the end it turns out that Gato wanted to force Earth to cooperate with spacenoids by dropping the colony on the last big food supply on Earth. Which succeeded.
However this had the opposite effect, forcing the Federation's hand in allowing the titans to do as they want in order to gather basic necessities like food production in space.
And I personally like the Laplace's box for one huge reason: It explains the federation's almost cartoonish attitude in some of the earlier timeline's stories like idk... completely denying autonomy of any kind for spacenoids for decades & later attempting to undersell the newtype myth (despite researching it themselves in 0079 & 0087). Like you said in Zeta, "they were terrified of Newtypes", almost unreasonably so, putting war heroes like Amuro in house arrest to let the myth die.

    • @WackaMei
      @WackaMei 5 років тому

What I want to say is; the box didn't come from nowhere. It was the inception of an idea Fukui seems to have in order to explain past "weird motives" within the federation and to pave the way for the complete cluelessnes amongst space's population in regards to Newtypes in the late UC timeline. And for the story, it's a fun McGuffin that helps add some nuance to not only the way the Federation has been behaving (later on in CCA just begging Char on their knees not to start more wars after selling Axis) but also gives hints to the intricacies in the behind the scenes politics of Earth and space.
It also managed to explain how a company like Anaheim was created, kept prospering during times with no war and their deep ties to the federation.

The sleeves would undoubtedly win a war with the federation should one occur, if full frontal had managed to take hold of the box. The neo zeong was capable of single handedly destroying the federation, because it was perfectly capable of destroying the unicorns, given how we know the psycho shard generator to work. After that it would have been relatively simple to just completely wipe out the federation. After all, they've got 2 neo zeongs, the shamblo, etc. All it would take is for full frontal to not have held back and he would have undoubtedly destroyed the federation.

    • @henryfleischer404

The Neo Zeong is just one mobile armor. It cannot operate indefinitely without resupply. All it would take is 2 ambushes or lucky shots with Gryps 2 or a beam magnum to destroy them. And then there's the question of holding territory- the sleeves simply don't have enough people to occupy Earth.

The aeug wanted to change the government of earth not destroy it but the Laplace conflict and subsequent negligence shows the govt is weak and the hegemony need to be removed. There is no super robot nonsense in Unicorn and if you refer to the final battle then I understand why you said it. Though Gundam was focused on realism in its execution the main goal was actually thematic realism. Sure we have militaristic machines, but in the end it was a the thematic landscape which presented the realistic message. I guess the best thing that represents that final battle in Unicorn and what newtypes ultimately are, was a poster for the 30th aniversary depicting the RX-78-2 Gundam holding a baby Amuro, while in space. If you could't tell, this is a 2001 a Space Odysee referance of the 'Starchild', which is also enforced by the fact that Mineva wanted to change the name from newtype to starchild. And this is what essentially speaks about the more etherial parts Gundam. These are heavilly inspired by the works ofArthur C. Clarke which focus on the evolution of humanity beyond what we are able to comprehend, whith technology being the primary means of doing this.

When you started explaining the core beliefs of the Sleeves and the AEUG in regards to how they see the Earth Federation it reminded me of the motivations of the most prominent characters from the anime Code Geass which takes place in an alternate time line where the war of independence, or Washington’s rebellion as its call in universe, failed miserably because key influential figures in said rebellion where convinced to betray Washington or stay loyal to England. Washington was captured and executed for treason agents the crow. Years later during the Napoleonic wars The UK with out much in the way of allies, since their’s no good old US of A, gets their asses handed to them on a silver plater. The remnants flee to the colonies, aka America, and rebuild into The Holy Britannian Empire.
The main protagonist, Lelouch has a some what similar belief as the sleeves when it came to his fathers empire, The Holy Britannian Empire which controlled 1/3 of the world in season 1 and over half the globe in season 2 one year later in the time line, that it was a cesspool of everything wrong with humanity and the head of state along with the traditional Imperialist, racist and arrogant society needed to be replaced with a much more kinder and gentler ruler and culture that would return the nationalities and national identities of all the countries and their citizens of what they now designate as Areas 1 to 13 along with people who are refried to as Numbers that they’ve brutality conquered over the past few hundred years.
He planned to destroy brittania by starting a rebellion in Area 11/Japan which once successful would spread to all the other Area/occupied countries leading to the destabilization of the Britannian Empire thus giving him the chance to kill his father the Emperor and put his pacifist little sister Nunnally, on the throne to rebuild Brittania into a more peaceful place. Thou it was fore shadowed in the first season that he never intended to live long enough to see her reign as Empress since he planned to atone of all the atrocities he would commit along the way with his own life.
Where in his oldest childhood friend, Suzaku, the son of the former Japanese prime minister, joins the Britannian armed forces as a second class citizen in the hopes that if he works his way up the way through ranks of the military he could change the system from the inside out in the hopes of making life better for his people in the long run by showing them that if they conform to the system they could have make a better life for them, their friends and families.
I know it’s not the same as the Sleeves and the AEUG per say, but I thought it was something worth bringing up.

Ok so I’ve only just started Zeta Gundam and my most complete understanding of Gundam comes from the After Colony time line but I’m going to disagree with you at this point because of three things, the connotations a name like Coprosperity sphere has in Japan and America’s shared history, Micott Bartsch’s actions after the Sleeves and the Nahel Argama alliance begins to fall apart, and the actions of the crew of the Garencieres once the EF personnel start shooting and the Zeon personnel. The name Slide Coprosperity Sphere is a Direct allusion to the Greater East Asian Coprosperity Sphere which was Japan’s excuse for imperialistic conquests during world war two now World War II is a complicated subject for Japan however they have formally apologize for many of the atrocities that were committed in the name of that coprosperity sphere, so we can assume that even if we don’t know the film crews views on World War II that they are using that to reference an imperialistic ambition, Especially when you take into account Micott’s actions, she is a child of the space colonies one of the people the Sleeves’ claim to be fitting for however she is one of the ringleaders of the crews revolt against the Sleeves, I think this is meant to show that the only way the sleeves could maintain their potential control the slides is at the end of a gun barrel, As many in the colonies will never join them of their own free well, and last but not least Garencieres crew when The alliance broke down instead of rushing to help the other sleeves they guarded their own mobile suits and then sided with the Federation crew rather than the other sleeves and were willing to engage in combat against their former allies to buy Banagher and Minerva time to get to The Box, it’s my believe they did this because they had realized what was really going on that most of the Sleeves including themselves to some extent weren’t doing this for The noble goals that they had signed up for but just to stick it to the Earth Federation one last time.

I wonder how well it's going to go since WB crew are all dead apart from Ryu (ironic) and amuro. We are about to start Odessa and char is currently captured, but dozle has the Gundam. If anyone has advice as to how to go about ending the war. (So no meta gaming since our chars are basically deikun followers). Amuro is on our side at the moment but we don't really know where to go from here. So guys, any advice?

Alright I'm fairly new to gundam and I'm starting to realize 1 thing. I need more third parties in uc. The Earth Federation is just full of assholes. Chemical warfare, child soldiers, and well arguably all the shit shown in origin. Zeon? Way too many colony drops! Seriously stop it. It's like if America just didn't stop using atom bombs and decided to solve all their problems that way. It just makes things worse. Like isn't there a party that doesn't advocate being an asshole while at the same time doesn't encourage colony drops?

Hey BOOFIRE, here's ideas centered around one theme:
▪True Diversity (of thoughts) in space: how Sci-Fi writers usually purposely ignore the possible future of a very very divided humanity (hundreds of factions, basically our Nations, in space). And what it tells about them and their views and desires for the furure.
▪Actually rich alien species (same topic, diversity of thought, applied to the case of alien species depiction in Sci-Fi).
▪Same topic, applied to fantasy races. Why diversity of thought in a society isn't anymore considered mainstream, thoughtful and rich, while even Tolkien actually cared to outline it among Men, Elves, Dwarves and Maiar.
▪Same topic at large in writing: why diversity of thought (ie true diversity) seems to generate either fear or laziness in writers minds.
    ▪ Bonus one: how video games seem to convey far more this very topic (ex: EVE Online, Elite Dangerous, etc).

Ahhhh calm down about the mcguffin bit. Not all guffins are bad for a plot. Laplace Box, aka, the UC Constitution, fits well with the story and fits well within the middle of a established setting. It's not like the new Star Wars movie that depended on a mcguffin dagger to be magically lined up with a destroyed ship.

Hence why the only real solution to most Gundam timelines (outside of X and (mostly) Post Season 2 00, others are a very tentative maybe) is basically annihilate any and all military capacity of any Gundam!Sol, strip them of pretty much everything in terms of industrial capacity, make them reliant on your goods to survive, and be willing to annihilate entire cities and keep doing so until they either surrender or there are no cities left to annihilate. Total war taken to it's logical and frightening conclusion. Basically Battletech's first two succession wars (which are so destructive that they almost caused humanity to collectively be reduced to a 19TH CENTURY techbase) but confined to an entire solar system.
Most of the Gundam Timelines are basically 'Hobbes and Locke are absolutely right, no exceptions' at a scale more than a few dozen people.

The ends NEVER justify the means when it comes to killing millions.

The comparisons one can make between Iron Blooded Orphans and Warhammer 40,000, as strange as that sounds, would be an amazing idea.
Calamity War = Age of Strife, Both were caused by AI Rebellions, and their aftermath saw technology and the acceptance of it decrease as a cultural result, not to mention the apocalyptic nature of the conflicts (Australia seems to have been blasted with an another colony drop, if one takes the time to notice). Said Cultural Shift sees the resurgence of truly archaic and ancient ideals and practices (Knighthood, Nobility and Slavery) for good or ill.
Alaya-Vijnana System = Mind Impulse Unit of Knights and Titans, a Gundam having a similar standing and effective power to a Knight or Titan within the setting's context.
Buried and lost Gundams and terrifying Mobile Armor = Archeotech and the likely sleeping/lurking dangers of the Age of Strife. The Hashmal is THE example I would point to for how/why the Imperium of Warhammer is rather leary of researching or uncovering Dark Age of Technology Archeotech; in words of Nubby from The All Gaurdsmen Party "I dunno, if dis Scientific Progress stuff is actually goin aroun' bitin' people, dey might 'ave a point..." on why the Adeptus Mechanicus is so zealous and paranoid about technological innovation. (From: The "Stealth" Mission: "Observation")
I could probably go on, but I really want to see the "official" video that goes into that with picture aids. :]

Instead of a literal giant waste of limited resources just think of all those Geara doga/zulu Mobile Suits that could have been upgraded to basically be gundams in terms of performance. If only every iteration of zeon didn't let the dear leader waste resorses remember the Big Zam well every Zeon MS pilot in the One Year War remembers that Dozle Zabi wanted a Big Toy instead of a well armed military.

There one hole in your theory, the Sleeves r divided, bcoz Mineva tries 2 keep the Box away from the Sleeves that look up 2 her as a sovereign princess, while Full Frontal (a clone of Char) on the other hand, would stop @ nothing 2 obtain it. Thinking that LaPlace's Box would be the final nail in the coffin of the Earth Federation. Mineva doesn't want a war nor repeat the sins of her family who usurped Zeon Deikum & challenge the Earth Federation 2 a war a decade later only 2 lose, while Syam wants 2 give away the Box in the hopes that humanity doesn't stay stuck 2 the Earth 4ever till the sun devours it.

I know a lot of people don't really like the character of Full Frontal as many consider him just a lame attempt at bringing back Char's character whilst also not really bringing him back. I personally love Full Frontal's character, even if he is a clone, he is the more cold and calculated version of Char. He still gave me the same feeling of intimidation that Char gave off every time he entered a room or the battlefield. I just really wish they hadn't gotten rid of his character so quickly. I feel like the Gundam franchise could've done so much more with him.

    More like the Third Coming.
As much as you declare Char a monster he's ironically the reason both times that Neo Zeon has more AEUG style goals in mind. Heck, it wouldn't be surprising that it was thanks to Char's machinations that AEUG had these goals to begin with.
So to reiterate, what is the uniting factor in AEUG, post-Gryps Neo Zeon and the Sleeves? The answer is one person, Char.
He was a key member in AEUG, leader of Neo Zeon and his clone headed the Sleeves. Every time he was present the said organization's primary goals remained the same. Only the way they approached changed.
I accidentally danced around this for a while so let's not delay it any further, how the Neo Zeon in Char's Counterattack is the second coming of AEUG? Well, their key goals are the same. Char wants humans to leave the Earth and let the planet heal. His approach is questionable yet ironically also more realistic than what the Sleeves wanted. He plans to make Earth unlivable at the present while the method to achieve this should not leave a permanent scar on the planet. Hence his biological weapon idea. It's a horrible, horrible plan. One that even semi-complete had already cost millions of lives. Yet in essence it was the same as what the AEUG wanted.
    tl;dr
Second Neo Zeon was also the second coming of the AEUG. Sleeves are actually the third.
