I wish we could somehow get Kermode and Brad Jones together in the same room on this.

Of course Brad would have to wear his Cinema Snob attire.

This is one of Kermode's most hilarious reviews. Now I *have* to see this apparently objectionable scene!

Considering how good his TV work is, it's startling how bad Will Arnett's live-action filmography is.

So we should just stick to Tequila & Bonnetti? Good to know.

Raja Gosnell is to family movies what Uwe Boll is to video game movies: a cancer on the very genre he dominates and yet studios are either desperate for directors for that genre, or too stupid to realize he doesn’t get the genre. At. All.

Not sure what's more laughable, this film's dire existence or concerned people complaining about an irreverent scene in this animated dog film...... and people complained about racism in Three Billboards.

I enjoyed cats and dogs that came out like 20 years ago when I was a kid but I bet if I watched it now it would be awful, kids will probably enjoy this though

I don't see what all the fuss is about? I like _any_ kind of movie with dogs ( _Eight Below, A Dogs Purpose, Marley & Me_ etc). I've been a long term owner of various dogs, and at present, I'm a Rottweiler dad. So, when I spotted this film had a Rottie as the star, I _had_ to see it, kids film or not.
Well, it wasn't the _best_ movie of all time, but it _was_ entertainment for just over an hour, and I actually enjoyed it (once I settled into it). I'm not there to analyze it like others have done (why the dog has no handler to start with....why it's an independant dog etc).
The pigeons are funny, the facial animations on the dogs are great, there's references there to Turner & Hooch (which the adults will get), there's ''toilet humour'' gags (like the farting in the dog bath) and there's deep morals (again, for the adults about not making judgements on someone: referring to Daisy (the Australian Shepherd)s view on dog shows, and being looked down upon by Max).
There were also a few corny parts to the movie, but heck, you can't please everyone. And yes, parts of the film are ''not believable'' (meaning the end with the tiger and Max piloting the plane) ....but it's a film with _talking animals_ fer gawds sake....it's fantasy from the very start!
I can't understand the Barry Norman approach to this film. Why is everyone ripping it to bits? It wasn't made to be a best seller, but it wasn't intentionally made to be a flop either. It was made to be ENTERTAINMENT for an hour. To escape life and to watch something different. And this was different. Yes, it's talking animals, which we've seen before in _Dr Dolittle_ ....or _The Incredible Journey_ , but the animated/CGI expressions super-imposed onto these dogs in _Show Dogs_ , is really well done. I can appreciate the time it takes to train animals for films, and this must've been very challenging.
I'm a grown man and I liked this film for what is was: an hour and a bit of escapism. To all the haters...get a life, move on, and remember: it's not the end of the world if you didn't like this film. I bet there are _more_ people who liked it, than there are who hated it. Dog people will have loved it, as we can relate to some of the character traits the breeds in the film have. Non doggy people will not understand.
I also watched the new _Tomb Raider_ movie....and I didn't enjoy that one bit. But we cannot please everyone with every film - that's why there are different genres out there. It's a personal taste thing. If you own or like dogs, then you will like _Show Dogs._ If you like men in spandex swinging from building to building with web shooting from their wrists and think THATS believable, then go watch _Spiderman_ .
But then, you may like talking Turtles who fight crime? Or love the idea of animated talking race cars? Maybe you believe that talking dogs are stupid, but think that a talking baby in ''_Look who's talking?_'' is more acceptable?
Ok - Opinion and rant over with. I liked _Show Dogs_ ....and thats all that matters to me!

I saw the film at lunchtime today due to an Unlimited card, there literally being nothing else I wanted to see, the controversy and the fact I get a perverse enjoyment out of saying that I saw "THAT" truly atrocious film in the cinema (recent entries to that list are Emoji Movie, 15-17 to Paris, Status Update, Peter Rabbit the Fifty Shades films etc.) Don't get me wrong the film is atrocious and definitely worthy of one star but it's hard for me to get mad at it because it mostly deliveries exactly what you would expect from a film of this nature. Outside of The Emoji Movie (very much last year's film) all the others I've listed are 2018 releases I'd also give one star. For as terrible as Show Dog's is i'd watch it again over any of these in a heartbeat purely because outside of the toilet humour the film just doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of me getting venomous about it. It doesn't make the audience watch some insufferably irritating dude bros go on holiday for the entirety of it second act, doesn't have that absolutely unforgivable set piece involving a blackberry, doesn't have as much ironic enjoyment as the Fifty Shades films , or the immensely irritating pandering of Status Update.
PS. For as awkward and in poor taste given the current climate as the " go to your happy place" dog private parts scene might be Peter Rabbits blackberry set piece it is FAR worse in my view in terms of its potential impact on a younger viewer. Can confirm that the BBFC approved version I saw it uncut and has the offending scene fully intact (along with another extended riff entirely based on the fact that the central dog tries to bite Will Arnett every time he gets near his dogs private parts.)
