Man, i'm laughing so hard !
12:30
This could be a turn one win ! This could b...(drop Leyline) ...oh no...
Hey, can you make us an against the odds with bogbrew witch?
woah seth did not auto scoop to spoils and won because of it. Progress
@17:25 had a chance to stay in if opponent drew a land but scooped early (had 2 more blockers Nettle wouldn't untap without green spell), progress is slow.
Adam Session but progress is progress nonetheless!
that is his usual move when the 'Ponent loses upon failing to win. Its not just doesn't win this turn, but actively loses. Since making the resolution this year his premature demagiculation rate has dropped *beams!, but, sorry-ish, this isn't the herald of progress. Although I suppose it very well could have been, just not its occurrence here. As previous commenter stated, progress is progress (astute and deep, that. he has my accolades)
I have no idea why I bothered mentioning this really. tbh I ought to erase but I already wrote it. lazy, hate to waste effort, even when hardly counting as such. sorry I'm sick in bed. Probably the fever talking
“We could get the turn one win!” *opponent plays their leyline of sanctity* “oh”
Welcome to 8 rack
and we knew as soon as it was spoken the chance of it was practically nil. one card in 'ponents deck to win: guess what was just topdecked. Seth must have land: 75% chance nonland, 25% tapped land...needs basically any specific card, draws cards closest opposite in deck. continuing in this ilk would net a treatise if he could just figure how to jinx the ponents as he does himself I figure there would be about even odds of taking down a protour
Ninja of the Deep Hours so strong in Pauper it's gone on to menace other formats.
You aren't wrong
Actually, is there any reason not to try it in human decks?
But bouncing a Thalia's liutenant would give you a chance for more counters, or help you reset a meddling mage if you want to name something more important. Then again, I wouldn't put it in the main deck, but in the side for matches where you need the card advantage
True that
Yeah, it's such a great mechanic
I like how the Ninja deck is one of the only ones not from small Japanese tournament.
Games start at 8:23
Hit with our ninjas, draw some cards.
12:00 LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL BLUE DAMNATION!
I think Beautiful blue damnation is my new expletive
Darn, was hoping for gutshot. Not necessarily but that'd be a hilarous got'em.
More like gut 'em.
I love the idea for this deck. You have a nak for finding sweet synergies.
Deck seems solid, to be honest, but would be a lot better with something else instead of Master of Cruelties.
Master was a dead card most of time you drew it.
embrace the jankiness
Neat idea but Master's CMC is just too high. By the time he got to the Mana for it opponents had enough life/creatures to make it not worth. Be better off with something like Vendillion Clique
Agreed, plus a 5cc win con in a deck with 22 lands is blah...
@@diegocrusius it's not really jankiness if it's never cast
I agree I think -4 master + 2 kolaghan's command +2 Tasigur (or another different top end threat)
Seth in game one you had familiar and wanderer which could have countered ad nauseum.
the opponent had mana up to pay for the counter.
Could have used both. Don't think that was a good idea, but I'm not going back to check.
This feels exactly like the Grixis Ninja deck you played sometime in the past and I loved that deck. Use this as motivation to revisit it!
Am I missing something at 17:25? Swing with throat slitter, kill a mystic regardless if he blocks or not, play familiar and wanderer, and have blockers for 2 creatures. If he doesn't draw a green spell to untap the nettle, you stabilize.
M I S P L A Y E D S H E N O B I
At 12:33 you can pinpoint the exact moment he lost his will to live.
23:08 Phil Swift "This is a lot of damage"
Hey Seth! I found an interesting card that you should totally make a deck with (Love your content :)
Guided Passage {G}{U}{R}
Sorcery
Reveal the cards in your library. An opponent chooses from among them a creature card, a land card, and a noncreature, nonland card. You put the chosen cards into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
So basically many of the best cards in Modern plus a legit win con and neeeenjaas?
Me likey!
Wow I was so ready for ninja tribal and got my heart crushed
In the right matchup, master (of puppets) can certainly pull some strings
did that sound better in your head?
16:38 “Now that’s a lot of damage!”
Sponsored by Flex Tape confirmed
I agree Seth, Master of Cruelties is expensive and sat in your hand a lot but there's a good deck in here with ninjas, snapcaster and other value shenanigans
Master of Cruelties: Surprise ninja? lol
I feel like there were maybe a couple too many Masters though. I know it's an against the odds, so we need to go all in on them, but it looked like there were a fair number of matches where you got like, 3 of them in hand and couldn't do anything with them.
Yeah, in an ideal world there would probably be less Masters since five mana is a lot, but playing the winning card as a four-of is one of the unwritten rules of Against the Odds.
Nitpick complaint: 12:57
Instead of fetch shocking into paying mana for Surgical, it is better to pay life for Surgical and crack for the shockland at the end of turn. This allows you to bluff Spell Snare for a possible Pentad Prism or Spell Pierce (which would be something you might actually sideboard in) for a cantrip
Hmm, good point.
Yes!!! Been waiting for a Ninja Deck!!!
The ninja's actually performed better than I thought they would, awesome lol
Eeeek you left in 62 cards after sideboard at 39:10
Tetsuko + Lingering Souls and another 1/X creatures, an Tetsuko Unblockable Tempo deck is a nice idea!
"COME CRAWLING FASTER, OBEY YOUR MASTER, MASTER !!! MASTER!!!"
Seth, worked out why your voice is such pleasant commentary - your tone makes you feel like you're sitting right next to you, with you sharing your thoughts on the game with us. Just a friendly vibe tbh
16:43 "That's a lot of damage!"
Haven't even seen the video yet, just the deck tech, but man this deck is pure awesome spice :D
at 19:11: Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't fatal push potentially save him there?
Seth had just used ninjitsu so he had a revolt trigger, meaning he could fatal push the Imperious.
Drop scalding tarn, and search up a blue/black shock untapped. Drop to 5.
Tap that land for blue and cast wanderer.
Pass to opponent and assuming they don't have another lord or a combat trick and they full swing, trade the wanderer with one of the 1/1's and drop to 1.
Next turn if Seth draws a land, he can play tetsuko, snapcaster, and use snapcaster for fatal push again.
That would leave him with a 2/2, a 1/3, and a 2/1 for blocks, versus the 2 creatures his opponent has left over + whatever they would have played on their turn.
It would be close and rely on op not buffing on their turn and Seth topdecking a land, but it was possible to survive that.
17:25 Run out your two creatures, your opponent needs to draw a green spell to kill you, right? If they draw a forest you live at least one more turn.
Seth, you could have just sacrificed Mausoleum Wanderer in game 2 vs vengevine to counter an instant/sorcery; the ability would have fizzled, but it still would have died and exiled the bridges from below and you would have saved a fatal push
cant sac with no target
That bridgevine opponent played incredibly badly. They pretty much never used Gargadon, including a turn where Seth was dead on board if the opponent just used their lands to power it out.
Good games. Thanks for the excellent viewing.
This is one of those decks where you look at the cards and think "oh boy this is gonna be so sweet!". But then it just isn't. Awesome vdeo like always though, Seth. Thanks for posting!
Thanks!
15:19 Opponent: "You're cruel" :'(
"Yes indeed, hence the name, Cruel Ninja" :p
Maybe Ninjas is a real thing.
More Umezawa! Did you ever notice that in the art she's holding the Jitte?
"Cruel Ninjas" in the title without Cruel Ultimatum with Ninjas... that's cruel :')
Also Master of Cruelty = Rakdos = The second set of Ravnica, not Guilds of Ravnica.
You should add some ramp and get rid of the mosaleum wanderer put in more some drain effects it’s necessary life gain and a finisher as well
This deck is so fun to watch!
I think Tetsuko would be better with a deck just built around it. Probably something like the old Travis Woo/Greg Hatch Mono-Blue Sky Hussar decks with Tetsuko to give the deck reach. Deck gains access to Mausoleum Wanderer for more redundant Martyr effects with Judge's Familiar, Cursecatcher, and maybe Martyr. Maybe something like Gigadrowse as a backup Tetsuko/Fog and play some number of Nivmagus Elemental to give Gigadrowse a combo finish utility by attacking with a 1/2 Nivmagus made unblockable by Tetsuko, wait until blockers can no longer be declared, then copy Gigadrowse 4 or 5 times, let first ability resolve then hold priority and exile to Nivmagus to make it a 9/10 or whatever (like how the legacy list uses Flusterstorm).
this deck seems actually kinda decent in modern. ninja is pressure and card advantage in the same card. I think this could be competitive if you cut the masters and put a something that is impactful but costs less manna
Ninja of the deep hour was very strong! Creates crazy card advantage. I wonder if there is a decent replacement for master of cruelties? Seemed expensive to play at times but when it hits, it hits hard! :)
If you want an optimized version of this deck, a grixis ninjas without any masters would be the way to go. The full 4 bolts, maybe a couple of kolahan commands, a tasigur or two, maybe some delvers, shifting the focus of the deck to be more aggresive.
So much fun! - Master + tetsuko
Sick blue Damnation promo.
Can't wait to see what you do with this. Love ninjas lol
Hey lightning greaves seems slow but a must in this deck !
Lightning Greaves can be pretty good on Master of Cruelties.
That's a really cool 56 card ninja deck.
It's worth recognizing that when you Ninjutsu a creature, that gives you Revolt triggers. So you could have at least killed the Perfect around 19 minutes with the Fatal Push you drew. Bouncing for Ninjutsu is still leaving the battlefield.
...Ninja tribal deck that abuses Revolt/leaves the battlefield triggers? Tetusko to make things unblockable? Ornithopter kite ninjas?
Hate to say it but Master feels kinda below average. The overall shell seems sick though! I think we are going to brew around the Ninjitsus!
Being able to repeat snaps with ninjitsu seems very strong
I just can't help but think that replacing master with 3 cliques and an extra inquisition would just be so much more useful.
22:08 THAT’S A LOT OF DAMAGE!!!
in match one game two couldnt you have snap caster surgical? rather than wait to see if they drew another?
Seth I really feel in todays format you need a main deck exstraction, two in board. It just solves so many problems.
I imagine some sort of ping strategy would work best with master of cruelties.
I feel like, with some tuning and some cuts, this deck looks like it could actually be competitive
"Don't have time for Master." You were playing against Blue Moon and you saw their hand. You could have cast it there and forced the remand.
Well Done Team Alpha Gaming Approves ;)
Random thing, would elves ever splash white (with maybe a couple of fetches and horizon canopy) for selfless spirit in sideboard or maybe path for extra removal
There is a GW elves deck that uses the vizier combo for infinite mana in an elves shell.
Reid Duke recently did a GW elves video for Modern
I used to play abzan elves in the pre Devoted druid era. Played SB thoughtseizes and Shaman in black and good sb hate in white.
GW Elves is a thing, mostly for Vizier of Remedies infinite combos. Also good sideboard cards.
Haven't even seen the games yet and I wanna see a stream of it
Love the deck! But I'm not sure why we play dismember in our colors? I would play terminate or another dreadbore.
It's really efficient with Snapcaster, but other options could work as well.
Game 2 you could've just flashed back the surgical targeting ad nauseam lol
Seph should try Tesuko with */1 creatures
I did something like that in Standard
Rat Colony ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
i was using Combat Celebrant, but Rat Colony looks more spicy XD
Thrumming Stone Rat Colony with Tetsuko.
Make it happen!
Hey Mr. Olive, any thoughts on a budget build of this deck or what it just be too hard to gets wins with the budget version, I noticed you only got the master of cruelties win a few times
I think that on a budget it would be hard to be three colors since we'd have to play a lot of tapped dual lands.
I feel like there's something you could do with unlockable creatures, master of cruelties and sakashimas student. But in this build, master seemsout of place.
Game one is an example of why you don't scoop early
Generator Servant to power out that Master of Cruelty
At 13:21, why not flashback surgical extraction for free? HE already saw the hand, right?
Play some budget magic Ninjas Seth, please! Anyway, great grixis non-master of cruelties deck :D
It's on my list!
@@MTGGoldfish I'm waitin' for It!
>Builds a deck around a 5 CMC creature
>Keeps a one land hand
Remember, guys: never scoop to a combo deck if they could still fizzle
44:10 It's been like 5 turns in a row when you could have snap dismember'ed and get opponent to 1 life...
for protection, is there a reason you don't run any siren stormtamers? seems like a better counter ability than the owl and the ghost against a lot of stuff in the format. thoughts?
It's free. Siren you need to hold up mana, and most decks tap out for threats.
Apart from the mana issue, the biggest downside of Siren Stormtamer is that the other options have a lot more flexability (countering Ad Nauseam for example, or Goblin Lore). Siren Stormtamer is better at protecting one creature, but much more narrow.
makes sense. stormtamer is a house for me in standard, but a lot of times i'm leaving mana up anyway
@@vbkllr standard is very different. In standard, leaving up one mana and playing off curve usually doesn't hurt, But in modern you want to tap out for threats/setup. It's why curse catcher and it's ilk are so good.
Hello there, Mistblade Shinobi.
Seems like with elves being the flavor of the month, a few more damnation's might have been a good call.
At 17:25 you weren’t dead because if they didn’t draw a creature to untapped nettle sentinel you had 3 blockers to their 3 attackers
Hmm, true.
1:09 spectacular does not equal amazing!
and it wasnt the only switch up either! I literally did a double take at the script breakers
19:12 How does fatal push not do the trick? Did Seth forget about the revolt part of it, or am I missing something?
Seth was at 8, and had a scalding tarn. He would have to fetch for a shock to cast fatal push, and even after killing the lord, going to 5 makes it lethal.
Yeah, we had the wrong fetch. Being forced to fetch a shot and we were still dead.
17:51 who woulda thought that damnation was blue, lol jk, I know it’s a bug on modo
Love the blue damnation :P
It does look pretty sweet!
Why not use Sakashima's imposters to attack with a bunch of creatures, leaving back Master of Cruelties, and then ninjitsu in the imposter to clone Master and potentially win on the spot?
Lukas Nicola master doesn't deal damage if it's unblocled
The timing doesn't quite work. Master of Cruelties triggers once it is unblocked, so if ninjutsu in Imposter its too late.
What happened in game one? Opponent had lightning storm, 3 Simian Spirit Guides and lots of lands but conceded?
Ohh! OK. Thanks ;)
Yeah, that was the exile zone. The basically exiled all of the things they needed to win. Spoils of the Vault is risky.
Can I have a Yuriko Legacy deck? Even just an instant deck tech. Pleeeeeease?
why no invisibilty *blue enchantment* to make master unblockable?
Hey guys new to MTGO, do you have to pay to enter the leagues and tourneys?
Yes
At 39:10 you had 62 cards... That's why you had to mulligan twice
Gut shot or vapor snag in sideboard??
Have you done a Prophetic flamespeaker against the odds?
We haven't, but that could be a fun one.
If you post a poll for it, I will definitely vote. Thank you for all of the great content and MTG finance.
Your intro is different, it kind of sounds less jingly. I prefer the older one(the link down below part).
Gimme the scööps brother
the problem is that you have to hard cast a 5drop and hope that it untaps EDIT: i guess we should go down at least one master of cruelties. they're stuck in our hand to often
Yeah, Master of Cruelties is expensive.
Are textless cards ever the right color on MTGO? XD
Cruel Ninja's Thesis
The deck was so sweet
