Simply shocking how the PO have behaved, what's happened to this country, riddled with corruption, and gross injustice. Mr Bates and co deserve millions and a public apology.

Can you imagine the injustices that have gone unnoticed in years gone by, without someone with Mr Bates tenacity to fight for justice. Everything I was taught about our country when I was young is a sham..but every now and then someone like Mr Bates gives us all hope.

Don't forget the Tories sold off the PO at a bargain basement price to their friends and cronies. The reason they are deliberately holding back restorative justice is because it tarnishes their ideology.
Apaar from giving back the PO stole from the post masters is that all but 90 convictions are still in force leaving these innocent people with a current criminal record. They should all be pardoned immediately.

My late friend passed away aged 95 in 2022, she was a very wise lady, and full of good sound common sense and advice, she once said to me "darling, the world is as beautiful as ever, it is society that is so awful, all the good, kind people get s**t on". None of us can ever imagine what the lady and gentlemen post office masters/mistress's went through. Many of them going that extra mile to help their customers and this is how they get rewarded.

My first thought on the matter was when are the purpotrators going to be brought to justice. I've had to argue with the police over why they shouldn't arrest a homeless elderly woman for stealing a sandwich ffs. And these actual criminals are getting away with it?

Another question relating to this scandal is who backed the Postmaster's litigation? The court awarded the JSPM's case £58 million but they were told only £12 million would be left to share, between 550 litigants, after the backers got their percentage!! Who would take that much of a cut from these poor people? This whole criminal scandal by the so-called justice system is shameful.

To hear that even the central campaigner Alan Bates has not yet been fully compensated to date is shocking indeed! One can only assume that the PO are dragging their heels in paying their long long overdue compensation in order to minimise the sums paid out as more people die before receiving what is rightfully due to them. This whole debacle is simply disgusting! Hundreds of wrecked lives! Those responsible need holding to account right NOW!

It's the same 'actuarial' attitude as used by the insurance companies/cartel in accident injury cases. Spin it out as long as possible in the hope that people will die before they have to be paid out.
This could be avoided if people like the Post Office were obliged to pay interest on late payment, and if people do die while waiting, their compensation should go to their estate, surely?

A very humble and decent person, as I’m sure pretty much all the post master group are, disgraceful to hear there are still some who haven’t got their money back, that wouldn’t even be enough, they’re owed a lot of compensation too, you stole their money, you stole their good reputation in their communities, you gave them criminal records, you stole their futures, giving them back 10x as much as you stole from them wouldn’t be enough, I salute them all for their bravery and dedication in getting this far, and wish them the best of luck for their future battles, the British public is behind you.

How did the PO manage to "prove" their case in court against these people, as there was obviously no proof of the alleged offences, unless it was actually falsified by the PO or, those prosecuting and judging these cases were in fact not qualified to do so, a massive failure by not just the PO but the legal system and profession as well. 😢

There was a similar scandal in Australia - Robo-debt. From 2013 to 2019; over 560,000 Australians on social security benefits received computer-generated debt notices, totalling $1.76 billion. The soc
computers at CentreLink (the social-security service) claimed that the benefit recipients had under-stated their earned income, by using the income from their tax return for the previous year, to estimate their income for the current year - even though it might have hugely fallen - e.g. after losing their job. At least 30 people took their own lives, after receiving their letter. The scandal led to an Australian Royal Commission, which found that Prime Minister Scott Morrison and two other Ministers had failed to check😂 that the scheme was lawfull (legal). So far, compensation of $760 million (£380 m.) has been paid to 360,000 people. PS - Australia’s Seven Network started screening Mr Bates vs the Post Office last night (14 Feb), after huge publicity. Alas, no mini-series yet, on the Robo-Debt scandal (Kym in Darwin)

The judiciary is independent of the government, but like you said the judges etc have utter contempt for normal people and they have no business self regulating after this, plenty of blame toward the post office but they played their part, absolutely they did!

@@lewismacdonald1516The Government owns the Post Office. They do delegate the running of it to The Post Office ltd board but as owners the Government could have stepped in far earlier with a proper fully independent investigation but chose not to. If they had this would have meant the legal cases and the delay in proceedings would not have happened and the sub post masters would not have had to go through such an horrific ordeal. This refusal to investigate anything that might embarrass the Government is not just relevant to this issue but has become standard practice. Delay, delay, delay until they are no longer in power no matter the damage to others.

Time and again public sector organisations and Central government start to reinvent the wheel by investing in new software systems when there is no shortage of very good accounting systems tried and tested. Some years ago TFL invested in new signalling software when tried and tested software especially Canadian software existed. It led to dreadful signalling problems and huge waste of funds. Same again with the identity card system scrapped by PM Cameron after wasting 8 billion whilst some excellent identity systems available and working in many many countries. I just don't understand it!

That's what I love about ludane, a massive talent for oversymplyfying the issue and, an even greater talent for pretending to care, keep counting the cash..ludane..
My sympathy goes to all the families who's life's have been ruined, over the past twenty years...☠️
