I get the distinct impression the only way a Pelican can land in Halo is in a crash.

and I thought it was random crash landings anyway with my years of odst training I learned one thing "if your aircraft is going down then take out the enemy with it" I guess the flood uses that method when it comes to crashing pelicans.

Do you notice that the pilots always die in every Pelican crash? It got me thinking that's an intentional design feature, to punish pilots for being clumsy or unlucky enough to crash in the first place.

You forgot one in Halo 3. On the mission "The Ark" after you go over that cliff where the Longsword crash is visible if you go to the right where the two ODST Pods are you will see a couple detached thrusters and if you look up you will see another Pelican crash.
So that would make the total for Halo 3 10 and the complete total 29 not including Halo 5 Guardians

If you play the campain Rookie has to observe a DRONE CAMERA, witch starts the mission.
Honestly, crashed pelicans or crashed ships in general sometimes mean two things.
1. To symbolize that not all people are as strong as the player.
2. Usually filled with supplies or something relevant to the story
I found this pretty funny realizing how many times a pelican did crash in Halo! I never noticed pelicans crashed so many times until I read the title of the video! Anyway nice video! Going to my like list!

There's actually another crashed Pelican kinda lodged up in the mountains in Halo 3 "The Ark" almost immediately after the one showed (where the brutes show up in the Prowlers and stuff)

Some of them don't really count because they were player caused.
There's one in the Ark (halo 3), after you pass the first AA gun and meet the marines who are like "Pelican went down.." (you got that Pelican, I understand that, this one is shortly after) and you see what looks like a UNSC long sword go down aswell, well after you get defeat the brutes and start driving, there will the large open area with the crashed long sword (looks like a US Black Hawk Bomber but 20 times larger) there's a segment on the right where a couple ODST pods and ODSTS lay dead. Upon the Cliffside closest to that you will find another Crashed Pelican. It's out of reach for the player so maybe Theatre mode will best suit your needs? And if anyone is gunna call me a nerd, I am a nerd. I played A LOT of Halo 3 when I was a young teen. Thanks for reading :)

I feel like the fact they crash so much shows the flaw in the design of the pelican because incase you don’t know the pelicans wings do not create enough lift for it to fly so it uses the thrusters under the wings to stay in the air so if you loose just one of the thrusters the whole pelican goes down
The Assault on the Control Room Pelican clearly says “E419” on the side, and the one on Silent Cartographer says “V933”. The rest in CE were labeled properly.

You missed one on The Ark up on a ledge. This Pelican is unique in that the wreckage can actually be moved.
actually the total count is 23. one of the pecans shot down by the scarab in halo 2 crashed outside of hotel zanzibar, and you counted it separate.
There's also downed Pelicans in the multiplayer maps Valhalla in Halo 3, and Ragnarok in Halo 4.

Isn't it also quite strange how almost always, in each Halo game, the protagonist somehow always crash lands from space either in some type of vehicle or simply by gravity? For example, H1: crash land in the mission, "Halo." H2: crash land in a pelican in the level, "Outskirts." H3: crash from space with a busted forerunner ship. H3 ODST: crash land in drop pod. Halo Reach: crash land after tossed by Jorge into space. (Halo Wars, I am unaware). H4: crash land into requiem with Forward Unto Dawn. (Halo: Spartan Assault, I don't recall a crash land either)...
there is a pelican crash in Spartan Strike too but i dont remember ehat operation it was on

Pelicans really do get sent into the hottest landing zones sometimes... Perhaps it was reasonable to have to eliminate so much Infantry in 'The Pillar Of Autumn' to clear landing zones. I still feel like they're too frail...
And even then, I think that was mainly just so that the marines can safely leave cover to get to the pelican...
So only 23 actual crashes, 4 glitches,. And 1 stepping out of bounds and getting killed

j t no all three of those pelicans got hit and crashed. In the original cutscene it doesn't really show the odst pelican getting hit. The pelican that crashes towards the screen is the master chief's pelican.

Numbers 5 and 7 were the same pelican. There was a deleted scene where some ODSTs crawled out of there and it was the same pelican from the cutscene with the scarab

You missed 2 pelicans in Halo 3. 1 When you on the Ark when the Longsword crashed after fighting the first pair of Hunters and exit the building in the cave. 2 Directly after finding this pelican make the jump on captured brute vehicles or mongoose then before going up the hill to the longsword look to the top left of the map and you will see another downed pelican.
they really need to invest in ejection seats for the pelicans.
