I LOVE YOUUUUU ANOTHER BANGER VIDEO OMG
@@stonedtalus I love your PFP
@ thankyou GOAT
You’re amazing for this! 😊
Hi, there. I found you while watching the 1984 version of Wide Smile, High Style and I have to way, you're doing excellent work, and may be one of my new favorite musical theatre channels ever, since Starlight Express is one of the best yet underrated musicals in history, so consider me subbed, as I want to interact more with this awesome community which has excellent taste. Keep on at it, friend. I assure you, one day, you will be famous enough to get the attention of Andrew Lloyd Webber, himself
@@marcusblackwell2372 OMG Thank you so much!!! That’s really nice!
How do they learn to race down the bridge with so much confidence?
Thie is Lola Knox as Buffy. Jamie Beth was seriously injured in rehearsal and although for the duration of her contract she held the credit as 1st cast Bufffy, she unfortunately did not perform the role in front of an audience at the Gershwin. Lola s credited as a swing but was dedicated as 1st cast Buffy. She played the role for the duration. If you look at stex bway production photos or the brochure, even this posting's thumbnail, buffy is always lola, although the credit is listed as jamie. Easy to detect as jamie is caucasian and lola is African american.
Fave Greaseball and Flat-Top YAAAY ‼️
So interesting Fact:
In the Broadway Production there are no National Engines left at „Light at the End of the Tunnel“. The last time one is scene, is in the Uphill final (Hashamoto). After that every Engine has changed to GBs Gang. In the current German Production there are multiple Costume changes for the national engines. The first appear as national engines, then as GBs Gang and at „Light at the End of the Tunnel“ they‘re back as National Engines.
The National engines are just ensemble parts. They just make up the competition and they don't have much effect on the storyline.
Moreover, seen on how the races are performed, either the nationals crashed badly and had to be repaired (or needed to be fly back home for repairs) or they just couldn't face defeat. So, they walked out of competition in shame or in rage making them not to be seen on the finale.
P.S I agree with you that the Nationals should come back for the finale number, it just makes the show more lively.
BTW, During Japan/Australia tour, the nationals and the gang came back for the finale but only of two of the gang members are present
@ but they do indeed have more Character than GBs Gang. So its interesting, that they decided, to leave out a final dress-change, to bring them back on stage.
@@corvoauditore3564 That’s a neat fact!
Is this audio only, or is there video that goes with it?
@@rjlevin Audio Only, I wish that there was video lol.

Is it okay if I share this channel? I have an account on an app called Fandom, which is a wiki central, and one such wiki is a Thomas The Tank Engine wiki, and I wanna shout out your channel since Starlight has more than one connection to that franchise
@@marcusblackwell2372Of course! I love Ttte and StEx!
@ThatStarlightChannel Well, it got deleted, I suppose because it didn't relate quite as much to Thomas as I had hoped, but before it did, it did get attention, as it got two likes
Looks like Control isn't saying much during the races.
@@jaykobwalson1941 Yeah, they made those changes in the 1988 finalized broadway script
@@ThatStarlightChannel the change in the bwy set form the london design, making it structured vertically, vs spread out horizontally throughout the theater, keeping everything inline of sight of the audience at all times, fueled the creative decision and the believed need to retain the race commentary as it existed in London, where the races often disappeared into spots where parts of the theater where different seating sections could not see them entirely, ie under or above the dress circle, .and were only crudely follow-able on 80s era live capture video,, More race commentary was tinkered with throughout the bwy run as audience feedback still found key plot moments n the races hard to always catch. The change in the bwy set, being less immersive than london, encircling only 2 small pods of seating on the sides of the front few rows, is often pointed to as a major reason the bwy show was less well received.by audiences, and many on the creative team felt was a major mistake in the design decisions of this production.
Whew… it’s been almost 40 years since i drummed up these production memories! I’m showing my age with the knowledge, but at least my memory is still intact about some things.., lol.
@@rjlevin Thanks for the info!
@@rjlevin Also the same race commentator that( not control,) was also transferred over to the London production the same time they introduced some of the new Broadway songs into the London production towards the end of 1988 mainly engine of love, Make up my heart, This is gonna be the day, Starlight express and the lyric changes in Wide smile and Belle and a few other bits. strangely the race structure in London stayed the same as it was.
I think it's interesting that they decided to go with the whole Eusty is the starlight express, but can we take a breath for how manic that costume change must've been for poor Greg Mowry to get from his Rusty costume into the Starlight one from the Rusty and Dustin scene to the pre race four number, no wonder there's extra music there before he comes on for Earth , water ect. i now it got cut eventually, i thought it was a nice idea bit like the chase, but ultimately ws cut as it was detrimental to Greg getting on in time and it also sounds a little clumsy too imo
