    Here in Brazil, I dont know where did this came from, but in caipira culture we do our own home-made soap, and its pretty much the same thing! Each family does a different recipe, but it consists in using old cooking oil. Instead of descarting it, we do soap.
    My mom makes it with the already used cooking oil, vinegar, sugar, caustic soda and water. My grandma recipe uses pork belly's fat, the pouring water from ashes ans then she cooks it. It's a really great soap, you can clean your house, clothes, dishes, and with grandma's you can even wash your hair with it 😂

    Two things: first, the cookies and cream soap reminded me of the European law that prohibits inedible things like soap from looking like food items. Second, funnily enough, essential oils like orange and lemon contain skatole. It didn't really cover up or even accent the smell of poo. It _accentuated_ the poo, while also inflaming the nostrils because it was just so powerfully concentrated. Walking into the bathroom was like cracking open one of those chocolate-oranges for christmas, only to discover that it's your father's 8lb massive dump.

    • @ashrowan2143
      @ashrowan2143 Рік тому +10

      Oh 100% you could do that, make the scatole soap first and make it slightly smaller than the final bar, mix up whatever soap will be the outside and pour in a layer of that at the bottom let it mostly set them spray it and the scatole with rubbing alcohol, place the scatole soap on the layer of soap and then cover it with more of the soap you want on the outside(be sure to spray the top of the scatole with rubbing alcohol as well this helps make sure the soap actually joins together without air bubble or a visible seam between the layers) and let it set and voila you have an April fools soap

    • @opcn18
      @opcn18 Рік тому +1

      @@ashrowan2143 My thought was that I don't know if the scatole will permeate through the other soap as it sets. I think you might also end up with scatole soap surrounded by scatole and something else soap in the end.

    • @jacobc9221
      @jacobc9221 Рік тому

      @@opcn18 If the outer soap's first layer is given time to set first, then it won't permeate, as it's a solid on another solid. You'd have to move the inner soap around somehow to mess it up. The outer mixture drying before you can pour it in on top is a concern, so you'll also need to either stop the setting or just make it fresh when the lower layer and the inner soap set. Perhaps some tinfoil or plastic wrap over the top would work, if it's caused by the air drying the mixture.

    Fun fact: Lye solution does feel soapy/slimy on the fingers because it does the same to the fats protecting your skin. Give it some more time and it will saponify your cell membranes, leading to the cells bursting open and spilling their contents, effectively liquifying your tissue.

    I make soap a lot, and I find it easiest to add scents and colourings to the oil before you add the lye mixture in :) It is way easier to mix in evenly, and you don’t risk overmixing the soap during the saponification stage, which makes it was easier to pour into a mold.
