100% some farmers sprayed bird stop on their apple trees and noticed it tasted like grape. That percentage on both the patent and bird stop is too suspicious.
joe: *sprays bird stop on the apples* joe's dad a couple of days later: "hey joe, did you remember to wipe of the bird stop after you brought the apples inside?" joe: "uuuh sure... why..?"

yeah, this is definitely a product that happened from a orchard farmer discovering it by accident "after spraying birdstop on my apples to stop the crows from eating them, they all taste like grape... i can work with this" (Damn never had a reply blow up like this lol)
“Making chemicals in his parent’s garage during a time when the Geneva Conventions were downgraded to an optional Geneva Suggestion, NileBlue considers science and destroying his taste buds as a generally unintended side effect of satisfying his own morbid curiosities.”
They used bird repellent too. If you look in the left column on the paper at 1:30 around the 25 mark it says that they used a 26.4% mixture manufactured by Bird-X and sold under the name Bird Shield. This is probably exactly how they made the Grāpples😂
@@the_sad_wallet1553 from the patent: "For the below listed examples, the preferred admixture included an “off-the-shelf" 26.4% solution of methyl anthra nilate, as manufactured by Bird-X, Inc. of Chicago, Ill., U.S.A., and marketed under the names of “Bird ShieldTM Bird Repellent” and “Fruit Shield Repellent.” This standard, con centrated form of methyl anthranilate includes a small amount of alcohol, which apparently acts as a surfactant and emulsifier"
i remember watching a Vice piece about this years ago, it seemed like the company was doing quite well at the time and didn't seem to be happy that people were suggesting that they were just soaking apples in bird repellent when they were definitely just soaking apples in bird repellent
My family used to buy grapples all the time and they were awesome. Had no idea they probably invented it by putting bird repellent on apples lol. Guess I know why they randomly disappeared now.
If you check their website through the web archive, you can see the video of them making the grapples, and they were literally pouring milk-like concentrate into the tank, in which they were submerging the apples, They were submerging it for 2 minutes, then the apples were rinsed in water and dried. The funniest thing is i swear they were using the Bird Stop but rebranded with their own sticker.
Stop the video at 01:30 and read the text block to the left of Example 3. Then check the brand on the bird repellant bottle at 02:16. That’s proof that they literally used bird repellant to make grapples 😂
If you pause @1:30 on the left side it says to use “26.4% of methyl solution of antranilate, as manufactured by Bird-X”. So the Bird Stop or some other form bird repellent solution is literally what was used to create the Grapple. The 26.4% was no coincidence, as it is the solution that was used to create the product. Grapple was most likely founded by a farmer using bird repellent for its intended purpose on his/her crops of apples. Edit: Bird Stop is made by Bird-X, so it is the exact solution used to make it.
The conspiracy is even bigger. BirdStop CREATED Graples and immediately discontinued them when they got popular to sell more BirdStop to UA-cam viewers. The deep state destroyed the evidence, but just connect the dots 🧠💯
I had this as a kid, and I remember being disappointed that it tasted like grape candy instead of actual grape. And now NileBlue has blessed me with the reason why
Me too! I was in 3rd or 4th grade and a rep from the company came by our school (the same city that the company was based in), and I was disappointed that the grape flavor was not like actual grape
I really believe that the bird stop is where the grape apple originally came from. Probably someone had a farm with apple trees, used some bird stop to keep the birds away and maybe used a little too much. Then they noticed that the apples got a very slight hint of a grape smell in them and so they came up with the idea to use a diluted version of the bird stop directly onto the apples to create the grape apples. But for the patent they had to cover this as 26.4% methyl anthranilate solution, because you can't actually write in a science paper that you mix apples with bird stop.
I wonder if the guy who came up with the patent had to use the product for whatever reason, figured out it was safe to consume in small amounts, and proceeded to dunk his apples into it.
According to some sleuths it might be another very similar product, called Bird Shield. But by all reason they might be equivalent. I think 26.4% might well be due to fundamental properties of this grape flavour chemical, such as its solubility in... Bird-X Bird Stop doesn't specify, Bird Shield specifies as "inert ingredients". Inert. So it's not alcohol. Water, should be water? It is water soluble. The MSDS of these two products disagree on the safety of the product. Bird Stop claims to be a Category 5 Acute Toxin, while Bird Shield says it's "generally recognised as safe" but irritating to skin and eyes. Table salt is Category 5 Acute Toxin, so make of that what you will, with estimated lethal toxicity several times higher. Just in case, i'm not convinced i would want to use Bird Stop, but i think they're likely doing the same exact thing as Bird Shield, they're just being overly cautious, or just uncertain of the purity of their raw ingredients. Maybe their water is an Acute Toxin. Hold your Wee for a Wii.
Company got out of the game before internet articles came out that the company was giving people apples dipped in Bird Stop (or other similar product with "Keep out of reach of children" printed on it)
When I first started the video and I saw the bird stop, I went "Ah cool, so he's going to separate out the Methyl Anthranilate from the bird stop before diluting it." Then the video went on. "... he's going to separate out the Methyl Anthranilate from the poison, right?" He did not, in fact, separate the Methyl Anthranilate. Homeboy just dunked an apple in 73.6% mystery chemicals and ate it.
what poison? no where on the label does it say poison... granted it mentioned the poison controll center if it was swallowed but in the same sentence it mentions to give the person a glass of water and nile diluted the solution by ALOT but lets be honest, that label is there for liability reasons also a poison would have worse results then a repellent in this case, an orchard is under the open sky, killing a couple of birds will achieve nothing, scarring the ever loving bird shit out of them with a strong burning after taste will achieve alot more because that bird will stay away from the orchard and its offspring will too!
@@andrew-vl7gu luckily humans arent birds. chocolat kills dogs, cats and some other animals but humans are fine so technically you could sell nutella as "food grade cat and dog poison" thats entirely safe for humans

I can't really make out what else is in the fridge. Loving that Smooth Kraft Peanut Butter on the counter too, thank you for being Canadian
The method described in the patent isn't exactly how they were made. When you looked closely at grapples, you could see tiny perforations in the skin with even spacing over the entire apple - there was clearly some additional injection or just perforation to better absorb the flavor compound. And yes, they tasted like grape-y apples. I liked them.
Grapples have lived rent-free in my head since that one time I saw them on the supermarket years ago. I can't believe I can put this to rest now after all this time
Imagine sharing an office space with NileBlue and seeing a completely normal-looking apple in your fridge with a note that says "DO NOT EAT (or you will die)"
Some interesting research after looking up that product: "Bird-X Bird Stop is a food-grade liquid that can be used to repel birds by creating an invisible barrier that irritates their trigeminal systems. It contains methylanthranilate, a bitter-smelling derivative of concord grapes, and can be applied by spraying or painting. Bird Stop is safe to use around children, plants, and food crops, and is USDA-assisted. It can be used on a variety of outdoor surfaces, including:" They also say: "No harmful chemicals" which is quite amusing when you read the warning label. I guess it's because in high concentrations the flavour is incredibly bitter and may make you vomit. They also have some testimonials, one states, "I used 12 oz. to the gallon and applied with a garden sprayer. I am anxious to see how long it lasts. The odor is not objectionable……unless you dislike the smell of grape Kool Aid. - Doc from Alabama" I wonder if anyone else ended up with grapples or grapcorn or graparrots after using this...
@@zawjatsaid1 That'd required by law on all non food chemicals, in reality this stuff would at most upset your stomach, nothing a doctor can do except pump your stomach and send you on your way Now i wouldn't reccomend you go eat the bird repellent seems like a bad idea but it's not gonna kill you.... immediately...
I had seen an old VICE investigation, where they found out grapples were just Fuji apples and honey crisps sprayed in bird stop. Apparently all you had to do was drive next to the orchards and the strong smell of artificial grape was pungently in the air. The thin skin of Fuji and honey crisp apples let the flavoring absorb easier.
I had one as a kid when my school gave out a free fruit every day for a year as a trial program. I thought these were made by soaking the apple in grape juice.
I'm just extremely impressed at all the rest of these videos now, knowing how willing he is to taste unknown chemicals and he's somehow survived this long
For whatever reason, the mystery of the missing Grapple really got to me. Turns out, Grapple Fruits' sole source for the Grapples was C&O Nursery in Wenatchee, WA. Likely, Grapple Fruits was a subsidiary brand of the business, but haven't been able to confirm. In September/August of 2023, the Nursery's owner shut the nursery down, and Grapple production ceased with the nursery closing. The Inventor listed in the patent, Gary A. Snyder, is part of the family that ran C&O. The CEO at the time of their closing was a Todd Snyder, and I found that the nursery management had passed through 4 generations of Snyder's. Gary was Secretary.
@@AtrocityEquine01 i have my suspicions that it was purely because of the grapple. given washington produces like, 60% of apples in the us, it honestly could just come down to competition. C&O might have been around for a while, but if the way the business was run started going downhill recently, or they were badly affected by wildfires or even just the weather relatively recently, it wouldn't be too surprising to see a nursery go under. sad, but not surprising. this is all just my two cents and i'm no expert though, so what do i know?
I remember Grapples from when I was young!! I would have to ask my mom exactly what happened to them, but I remember having thought they got banned for one reason or another
For those who don't know, food grade refers to materials or products that are safe for human consumption or permitted to come into direct contact with food
Just an fyi. Food grade does not necessarily mean edible. However, it does mean it is considered safe to come into contact with food during the harvest or production process. If anyone else decides to try this, make sure you don't drink the bird stop (the small taste he did I image was perfectly fine), but in theory you can soak apples and eat the apples
Exactly, I know for a fact that there's food-grade silicone rubber (like for baking molds), but that doesn't mean you can just chow down on silicone straight from the caulk.
Literally the label: "If swallowed, call a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice." NileBlue: "If it's good for a bird, it's probably good for us, too, right?"

I had an Econ professor give an entire hour lecture on analyzing the cost-effectiveness of bird repellents, which ended with the conclusion that the most cost-effective bird repellent was “grape soda” aka “artificial grape flavor”.
@@bibasik7 the soda may have a lower concentration of it than diluted grape stop would. Potentially meaning that it doesn't have a high enough of a concentration to make a difference. As well as the fact that if that is the case then if it diffuses into the apple it will only have a part of the percentage of concentration as the soda hence possibly making zero difference. It may also be that such a low concentration would struggle to penetrate the skin causing this to either not work or take a much longer time to work than simply dipping it in diluted grapestop
at 1:29 (on the left) you can confirm that bird repellent was actually used in the recipe. Its literally called "BirdShield - Bird Repellent". So thats where the 26.4% came from.
if anyone wants the full text "For the below listed examples, the preferred admixture included an “off-the-shelf” 26.4% solution of methyl anthranilate, as manufactured by Bird-X, Inc. of Chicago, Ill., U.S.A., and marketed under the names of “Bird Shield™ Bird Repellent” and “Fruit Shield Repellent.” This standard, concentrated form of methyl anthranilate includes a small amount of alcohol, which apparently acts as a surfactant and emulsifier. For the following examples, the solution concentrations refer to and include percentages that approximate the actual concentration of methyl anthranilate active ingredient in the admixture. Alternatively, a pure methyl anthranilate could be employed for the purposes of the present invention, diluted to the required concentration and most preferably with small quantities of an emulsifier, as typically employed to those skilled in the art of solution preparation."
Good spot! A bit of youtube deception from Nile when the answer is right there. "Had some trouble making this ourselves when we stumbled upon", you didn't stumble on anything, the answer was literally on the same page.
@ There is a reason, why the country is sometimes called: _”Sääntö-Suomi”_ (lit. ”Rule-Finland”, but more appropriately translated, as: ”Finland Of Rules”, or: ”Rule-Based Finland”) 😅.
Bird Stop's product page on their website claims it has _"No harmful chemicals"_ and is _"Safe for use around children, plants, and food crops"_ and that it works because _"methylanthranilate (bitter, smelly derivative of concord grapes) has a taste and smell that birds avoid - irritates their trigeminal systems"_ What this tells me is that *drinking Bird Stop* is going to be a painful, but probably non-lethal experience. However *methyl anthranilate* is safe to consume. Not only did Nile use it to make his grape soda previously, it's used in grape Kool-Aid, sodas, and candy.
Yeah this is what I thought too, just make a sort of flavor agent birds don't like and they'll learn not to come around real fast, same goes for most animals honestly, some are just harder to find the right flavor for.
But again, the problem is we have no idea what else is in there to dilute the active ingredient. Safe for use around children still does not mean good to eat in larger quantities.
"It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling" - makes a video useing it as flavoiring on the heath side, it says its fine to spray it on fruits after dilution, and handle them after drying, but sais 1% dilution and "5-8 days or when no odor" to eat... so the recipe was 1 minute in 10% to make it an overkill, so if you eat it 1-2weeks later its still grapy... he just ate it fresh...
@@falxonPSNmeh, he diluted the Bird Stop by a factor of 50 and only held the apple in the solution for a few seconds longer than one minute. Taking a bite out of that apple after it has dried and aged for 48 hours is a far cry from eating large quantities.
I work in packaging of pharmaceuticals. The safety seal on that Bird Stop was all kinds of burnt. 1 of 2 things happened during packaging. 1. The cap didn't get applied tight befor induction sealing or 2. the bottle got stuck under the induction sealer. Not sure if the integrity of the product would be compromised or not, but I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to test it.
Just looked at the grapple website on the wayback machine. There was videos about how the grapples were made, and in it they show the mixture used to give the flavor and it's the exact same color as the bird stop.
Honestly I think he posted it before April fools day so we wouldn’t take it as a joke (though considering his content, we shouldn’t be surprised by this. After all he’s done stuff like this before, making cinnamon candy out of styrofoam, hot sauce out of plastic, cotton candy out of cotton, etc)
I bought and ate some grapples when they were still being sold. The grape flavor and smell was only in the skin, it didn't penetrate into the flesh. The smell was eerily grape like.
I was wondering how they were gonna get the flavor INTO it. that was the main technical obstacle I was interested in and im very disappointed to hear its not solved.
I might know why 26.4 % : 26.4 % of 1 US Gallon is 1 liter and Methyl anthranilate turns solid at 24°C ( slightly above room temperature ) . So maybe the pure compound comes from a company that uses the metric system and then the manufacturers adapt the formula to the gallon format, mixing it with stuff to keep it liquid or at least not solid.
@@MadContendery 1 Liter = 0.264 gallon that's for sure, problem is my reasoning only makes sense for the Bird Stop. Those apples were made in US that's a start, maybe the production units also used the gallon system for the bath procedure and it was something like " mix 1 dose of creamy flavor with X amount of water ".
@@secrettaco5027could be the grapple was accidentally discovered by a farmer using bird stop to keep birds off their trees. Then they thought it could be marketable and said 26.4% works, let’s run with it.
So as another comment replied pointed out. At 1:30 pause and see on the left side clearly says to use BIRD X also know as bird stop or fruit shield. So in case you wondering, Nile knew, Nile did, and Nile ate. Case solved. Thanks for the great upload.
I am in total agreement except for the fact that it doesn't actually say that. It instead says: "For the below listed examples, the preferred admixture included an "off-the-shelf" 26.4% solution of methyl anthranilate as manufactured by Bird-X, Inc. of Chicago, Ill., U.S.A., and marketed under the names of 'Bird Shield™Bird Repellent' and 'Fruit Shield Repellent.'" It may not actually say "bird stop" anywhere, but yeah. Probably close enough for him to guess. (This wasn't written to argue against your point so much as to save someone from having to pause and find it for themselves.)
And at 1:42 it says only to dip the apple for 1 second, but he does it for 1 minute. This may have been a different part than the section where he was reading from because it does seem like his process was slightly different so this may have been a typo in the summarized section.
@@daklhs6460 I am sure that for the purposes of the patent, they dip them and hold them at certain temperatures for specific times. When they first discovered it, it was just farmers spraying bird repellant on their trees, and they can't patent that.
I have eaten grapple! Probably 15 years ago or so. The flavor was mild exactly like what you describe. It sounds like you produced the product that I ate exactly. Well done
I've had grapple multiple times way back when they were sold. It's literally apple with artificial grape flavor. You get a little fake koolaid grape taste on the peel of the apple but the flavor was NOT present in the flesh of the apple. I can swear by this, because that's what I wanted and that is not what is was.
They sell papples here in Australia. Cross between an apple and a pear, and the texture + juiciness is on another level. So refreshing but somehow mild at the same time.
I remember having graples once, I was so impressed that they actually tasted like grapes til I read the package and learned they weren't some new awesome apple breed they were basically just injected with grape essence or something.
I remember grapples. They were so delicious. I tell people about these and no one believed me they existed at all. It was about 17-18 years ago when I used to buy them in Winchester, Virginia. They're so good. I'm so glad I now have a way to make them!
I bought grapples once about 15 years ago. These were sold in plastic cartons of four found in the produce section of supermarkets. I don't know how popular they were but it seemed to be more of a party trick than something you'd get regularly.
@Yitastic00 They may very well be, but considering Winchester has an entire festival for apples and countless orchards, we liked to think we were. I haven't lived there since I was a kid, so it may have changed, too.
I've been looking for Grapples for *YEARS.* They were absolutely *delicious,* I cannot describe how tasty they were. Thank you for sharing this information---you have brought me comfort and closure. Keep doing what you do.
Grapples were owned and produced by a company called C & O nursery in Washington. They closed down shop after over a century due to “a slowing down in the agricultural economy due to state regulations” hope this is helpful
I worked in the produce department of a grocery store back when these things were being sold. My produce buddies and I were trying to figure out how they were made one day and looking really closely at one. There were little 2-3mm circular indentations with tiny puncture marks in the middle of them all over the apple. Maybe a dozen of them in total. We just figured they had injected the flavor.
Hey man, we really need a third channel - *_Cooking with Nigel._* Because the number of actual times the goal of a video has been to make a real food item is fairly high now (cotton candy, cherry soda, grape soda, processed cheese, chocolate, that recent cinnamon candy installment, hot sauce, and now the legendary Grāpple) . These previous experiments are a great starting point for a food channel. Might I suggest following Dr. Kikunae Ikeda's process of isolating glutamic acid, before attempting the first industrial process he developed to produce MSG. And then, use the MSG to make a Montréal classic - General Tao's Chicken (seriously, what else could you make but this? It's just too perfect).
The creators of Grapple actually used this EXACT METHOD. You can see it on their web archive. The only difference is they added a grapple logo above the bird stop, but other than that almost everything is exact XD 😂
My favourite kind of videos of yours is when you find old fascinating discontinued things that you want to get your hands (or mouth) on and so you make it yourself
According to the 2019 SDS for Bird-Stop, the other ingredients are glycerol and a castor oil ethoxylate emulsifier and water. They were enough of a non-concern to be left of previous SDSs. I think he'll be fine, however he should look this stuff up and show the audience so we don't worry about it.

Nilered of yore: Advanced chemistry Nilered now: Eating bird repellant
As a major plant nerd I desperately want Nigel to do some more chemistry with plants and/or phytochemicals. There's so much absurd stuff you could try, it would be quite the adventure.
@@kingatrzeciak8442 The topic is quite frankly too broad to elaborate. It could involve everything from the toxins in stinging plants to manufacturing various plant hormones (which can be applied to create all sorts of freaky results, gibberellic acid is a common one and even used commercially) to extracting various flavor compounds from fruit (juicy fruit gum has a compound found in jackfruit, though its made artificially) to just straight up using phytochemicals in various reactions. I just suggested plant chemistry in general cause it could be a whole new world of chemistry worth exploring on UA-cam!
I by chance tried one of these apples back when they were available in 2011, a coworker offered me one since you could only buy them in packs of three. It was as you described, a mild grape flavor, but it faded the deeper you ate into the apple until it tasted like a regular fuji apple. The next time I was in the produce section at the grocery store, I looked for these things and about fell over when I saw the price, it was $6-7 for just three of these apples, and that was in 2011 dollars. You could buy a whole bag of like 10-12 fuji apples for that price. I never heard about any recalls for health effects of those apples, they just didn't sell well and faded from existence. I've seen several weird fruit hybrids or "designer" fruits pop up in the produce section over the decades, and they never stay around for long because they're either too expensive or aren't appealing for one fruit to taste like another.
This is one case where an apple a day may actually result in a long series of hospital visits and end with a slow painful death from a new form of cancer. Or superpowers.
it also said "give the person a glass of water" so that warning label is probably just there for liability reasons, ive made the same answer a couple of times: the fact that its bird STOP rather then bird POISON makes me think its safe, a solution that smells and tastes fruity but with a potent burning sensation will deterr birds and over a couple of generations the birds will avoid those trees instinctively, if it was actual poison you wouldnt want it to taste/smell like anything except fruit and it wouldnt solve the problem, if you kill the birds that eat your fruit birds wont give a shit and keep eating the fruit because no bird survives to "tell" about the experience, if you make something harmless but very painfull it will give that information to the next generation
Dosage makes the poison. Could be toxic if you drank directly from the jug, but spraying some on an apple and cleaning it off later leaves less than 1% of that kind of dose.
@@Sotanaht01 "Dosage makes the poison" Yep, loads of things that we consume daily that is "poison" (if enough is consumed). :p Water poisoning is a thing for example, too much water in a short time span can lead to very severe issues, including death~
@justkats9371 the term water poisoning is a misnomer. It's more like over saturation. The deadly part is that it over saturates your electrolytes and causes stuff to shut down. It's not like the fluid itself is doing damage, it's the amount of the fluid that is doing the damage. Unlike Alcohol poisoning, where the fluid is actually doing damage.
They wash them at the company too, there was a video that look like they were soaking in the same milky liquid but they rinsed them with water afterwards, it’s soaks in the apple for two mins so it stays when being rinsed
I had to look it up. Grapple Fruits, LLC was a Washington LLC. Their principal place of business was Wenatchee, Washington. They were formed on 01/16/2004, administratively dissolved on 06/03/2023 and are currently inactive.
I was also curious and it looks like the creator was a family member and employee of a fourth generation orchard nursery that had been in operation for over 100 years before shutting down later that same year. My guess is he probably ran his company as a side project at the nursery and retired when things shut down.
its probably the exact thing they used in the patent, the percentage is just to much of a coincidence and the fact the patent doesnt list what the other ingredients are is most likely because it doesnt say on the bird stop, also the fact that its bird stop makes me think this is an accidental discovery rather then on purpose, it would also explain why the original grapple's arent around anymore because people somewhere learned of it or the farmers figured out "huh, maybe this would be REALLY BAD if it became public"

Most apples(and produce) are coated in some form of wax or grease. Apples have a lot of air in them, so this process might be easier if you had access to an orchard at a very early hour so the apples are at their "most exhaled" state so when you put them in not frosty grape water they will "inhale" more grape flavor while they warm up. He’s a chemist, not a biologist or genetic engineer.
The patent explicitly mentions Bird-X bird stop, the exact kind used in the video 👍
The oddly specific 26.4% tells me that the bird stop is actually the main component for infusing the apple.

@@bibasik7 the soda may have a lower concentration of it than diluted grape stop would. Potentially meaning that it doesn't have a high enough of a concentration to make a difference. It may also be that such a low concentration would struggle to penetrate the skin causing this to either not work or take a much longer time to work than simply dipping it in diluted grapestop

2. Add bird repellent.

It's 29-March so it's SAFE!!!! 🕊️🕊️🕊️
I bought and ate some grapples when they were still being sold. The grape flavor and smell was only in the skin, it didn't penetrate into the flesh. The smell was eerily grape like.
Yeah I was severely disappointed it was only the skin. I wanted my crunchy grape.
Yeah, I thought they smelled of grape but still tasted of apple. Was sorta disappointed.
I was wondering how they were gonna get the flavor INTO it. that was the main technical obstacle I was interested in and im very disappointed to hear its not solved.
Yeah they were not very good at all
I might know why 26.4 % : 26.4 % of 1 US Gallon is 1 liter and Methyl anthranilate turns solid at 24°C ( slightly above room temperature ) . So maybe the pure compound comes from a company that uses the metric system and then the manufacturers adapt the formula to the gallon format, mixing it with stuff to keep it liquid or at least not solid.
underrated comment (unless this is just made up)
@@MadContendery honestly it does make sense
@@MadContendery 1 Liter = 0.264 gallon that's for sure, problem is my reasoning only makes sense for the Bird Stop. Those apples were made in US that's a start, maybe the production units also used the gallon system for the bath procedure and it was something like " mix 1 dose of creamy flavor with X amount of water ".
Good point

So as another comment replied pointed out. At 1:30 pause and see on the left side clearly says to use BIRD X also know as bird stop or fruit shield. So in case you wondering, Nile knew, Nile did, and Nile ate. Case solved. Thanks for the great upload.
I am in total agreement except for the fact that it doesn't actually say that. It instead says:
"For the below listed examples, the preferred admixture included an "off-the-shelf" 26.4% solution of methyl anthranilate as manufactured by Bird-X, Inc. of Chicago, Ill., U.S.A., and marketed under the names of 'Bird Shield™Bird Repellent' and 'Fruit Shield Repellent.'"
It may not actually say "bird stop" anywhere, but yeah. Probably close enough for him to guess.
(This wasn't written to argue against your point so much as to save someone from having to pause and find it for themselves.)
Thanks for the grape upload.
And at 1:42 it says only to dip the apple for 1 second, but he does it for 1 minute. This may have been a different part than the section where he was reading from because it does seem like his process was slightly different so this may have been a typo in the summarized section.

He should go full thought emporium mode
Oh my god you’re right, I absolutely remember the grape flavor fading the more you bit into the apple
The taste fading just adds to the thought they were soaking apples in dangerous chemicals that you really shouldn’t ingest

8:04 "DO NOT EAT (or you will die)" probably accurate tbh
Considering that the bird stop bottle said "If swallowed call a poison control centre"
it also said "give the person a glass of water" so that warning label is probably just there for liability reasons, ive made the same answer a couple of times:
the fact that its bird STOP rather then bird POISON makes me think its safe, a solution that smells and tastes fruity but with a potent burning sensation will deterr birds and over a couple of generations the birds will avoid those trees instinctively, if it was actual poison you wouldnt want it to taste/smell like anything except fruit and it wouldnt solve the problem, if you kill the birds that eat your fruit birds wont give a shit and keep eating the fruit because no bird survives to "tell" about the experience, if you make something harmless but very painfull it will give that information to the next generation
Tons of non toxic products have this on the label. It isn't to warn anyone, it is to avoid lawsuits.
Water poisoning is a thing for example, too much water in a short time span can lead to very severe issues, including death~
That would explain why my grapples never tasted like grapes. I always washed them first
Shouldn’t matter as it should be infused into apple
They wash them at the company too, there was a video that look like they were soaking in the same milky liquid but they rinsed them with water afterwards, it’s soaks in the apple for two mins so it stays when being rinsed
Ive been looking for these, for YEARS. I crave them all the time.
Makes sense! Washington will apple in every way possible 🍎 except for Redmond 😂
of course they were based out of wenatchee lol
yeah and it's just made by soaking it in a mixture of grape flavoring and water lol.
NileBlue: The % is the same, so who cares about the other ingredients!
its probably the exact thing they used in the patent, the percentage is just to much of a coincidence and the fact the patent doesnt list what the other ingredients are is most likely because it doesnt say on the bird stop, also the fact that its bird stop makes me think this is an accidental discovery rather then on purpose, it would also explain why the original grapple's arent around anymore because people somewhere learned of it or the farmers figured out "huh, maybe this would be REALLY BAD if it became public"
