This is easily the best Auto channel out there! Only found this channel a week ago. Why did I not find this earlier!? As an engineer, I love seeing the technical side of the review which is so hard to find in auto reviews! This is way better than Doug Demuro or Redline or Shmee! (these channels are for kids, who don't understand the technical aspects) Keep up the great work.
I bought one of these because of this review. Seriously great stuff! No one else talks about the underside of cars and why luxury manufacturers like BMW are different than a Ford or Kia. Thank you!
This car fucks! Have had a 2020 xdrive 30i for about 6 months now, only complaint is that it is a little slow off the line. Sometimes has me wishing for the m40i, but got a great deal for a loaner on the smaller engine Edit: I NEED MORE MONEY! STAT!
Excellent Review. Having owned several modern BMWs with iDrive it does a good job of presenting the often used functions in an easily accessible way YET lets you configure / adjust in a granular way. If you were an owner of the X3, you would probably choose not to enable the HUD initially and never need to re-enable it. Modern cars let you set them up to your needs and in many cases tie the setting to your fob so they are memorized. Welcome to the modern age - more choices are a good thing. It's really inspiring to see you refine your talent over time in storyboarding your videos, the choice of music selections, and the layers of editing you use to create your 'story' and present your message. It never goes unnoticed and is very much appreciated. Your audio and camera quality has really gotten good - you have removed the sense of a 'camera and microphone' and have upped your game and I will show my appreciation on your Patreon site in April. All the best....
I love BMW looks, in and out. Some years ago I wanted to buy a used one. I found a 5-series so beautifully maintained despite its 100K miles, it looked like new, in every detail. Turns out its owner was a BMW master mechanic. He asked me, "Are you good with maintaining BMWs?", I said, "No". He asked, "Do you have a good friend who is a BMW mechanic?", I said, "No". He said, "Get an Accord".
It's not that complicated... It's also not unreliable. I have 2 e90s for 4 years (now at 130k) and an f30, and all of them operate incredibly well and have never left me stranded once. A few parts to fix here and there like any car, but no catastrophic failures of any kind, and nothing I haven't done myself. I'm assuming you're someone who just doesn't or has never turned their own wrenches for any of their cars? 🤔 What I'm saying is if you have done it with and four other cars you can do it till BMW.
"I'm assuming you're someone who just doesn't or has never turned their own wrenches" - I spent much of my childhood assisting my dad who considered horizontal position under his cars and diving under the hood to be prime time entertainment. I have a life now, more work than I care for, and playing an amateur grease monkey is not the pastime I look forward to. So far my cars have not required it (mostly Fords and Toyotas). I intend to keep it that way.
I did, too. But then I opened the hood of my boyfriend's Mini cooper. Yikes! It took us 4 days of searching and getting frustrated and coming back to look again the next day to find the cabin air filter and then we found out we bought the wrong one. I wish it were as easy to work on as a Toyota or Ford.
mountainhobo well I bought a lovely 100k mile E91 320D Touring and it’s been so reliable for the 19k miles I’ve had it. If that car needed pro level maintenance he’d done something untoward or knew of a fault.
mountainhobo they "don't require it?" All cars require regular maintenance. Those cars maybe a little less so- but of course, you're getting a lot less car with a Toyota or Ford, so what do you expect. 🤗
@11:28 there’s a fix to this. If you use a certain function often in the menu and you want to get to it with a physical button, you can save it as a preset (1-8 keys) by just holding down on the preset button.
O I agree, I love his videos and quality. I understand it takes time to get the cars for as long as he wants and to do the shooting and editing. I think it's worth it though.
love your reviews man, you and redline are the only guys I really like who do car reviews. You helped sell me on the second gen CX5 and now I just watch your videos for other cars because of how entertaining they are even though I have no intention of buying!
Savagegeese BMW allows you to program 6 direct customized commands from physical buttons, you could program one to display the HUD, I use one for quick switch to night mode on my NAV
Nobody blends sport into ALL of their models like BMW. The interior looks classy. Yes the Mercedes interiors look fancy but how will they age? They seem to be too busy.
THAT was a great video! Thanks heaps mate! We’re picking one up tomorrow at 10.30 and this was (seriously) the best, most informative video I’ve come across. Loved the undercarriage show and tell! Keep up the good work!!..... Subscribed.
I've been seeing reviews for a while. Different "journalists" dedicated exclusively to test cars and give a verdict that let the consumer know if he would be making a good or a bad purchase. But I think you take it to another level. I appreciate the dedication you put into this. P.S. I hope that the navigation system of the X3 works and you find a very good gentlemen's club.
By a street mile ... this video is the best piece of information sharing about the BMW X3 on UA-cam. The depth of both criticism and praise for different elements of the entire process is good and accentuates the way in which it was executed. It shows a deep level of knowledge and know-how, and reasons for doing things in engineering terms. It shows a gracious approach to the brand marque and is neither cynical nor over the top. I immediately related to quite a few comments made, and especially about the high-tech infotainment system ... but luckily for me, even though I'm retirement age I am an engineer with experience in computers/iphones and digital general, so I guess for me easier to absorb. But the comments are very accurate about everything, especially the digital systems. I chased around looking for a good video, as I intended to look to buy an X3 ... and buy one I did, mostly after much thought and several sessions on this video. Thank you for being "structural" and unsympathetic in your video, but at the same time ... telling it as it is, unlike some of the other supergloss trade videos and car magazine efforts. I bought a 2019 BMW X3 M40D and have to say, yes there's an awefull lot to go wrong ... but at the moment it's an awesome SUV and simply love it ... after learning how to fly it.
Another excellent review Mr. Goose. You are the most unbiased car reviewer on UA-cam. It is just a matter of time until one of those grill slats malfunctions and overheats the engine on a summer day.
I own on of these X3, I 've seen hundreds of reviews about them. Let me tell you that this is the best and the most honest review amongst any other I saw. Thanks!!
What a brilliant review !!!, clear, precise and honest. I’ve just ordered one to replace my brilliant GLA Mercedes Benz and after watching this video....I can’t wait !!!.
18:55 to 19:01 What an unexpected camera angle/ ride, very well done. I curiously followed the link to your homepage, this outstanding production value of yours makes sense now... as does subscribing!
these cars are so fast for an SUV you don't even realize how fast you are going without looking at the speedometer. The older models that i've driven are easily the most enjoyable drive for an SUV. i don't like the user interface for the technology and have had problems with every bluetooth system in a BMW ever, but that's not exclusive to this model. Think overall this is the premium when it comes to SUV's and i'd actually rather have one of these than a Range or Land Rover.
What an excellent review. This is the way to review a car. Test it over a good length of time rather than doing those ridiculously short car maker sponsored drives. Having had my X3 30i for about 2 months I agree with most of the observations. I would disagree with his impressions of the technology being overbearing. It really is very intuitive, but perhaps if you had no tech experience it might be a challenge. That being said if you get a BMW genius to set things up you could drive without changing settings at all. The 2 litre engine is incredibly responsive and more than adequate for any conceivable driving situation. Handles cornering and twisty roads with great stability and certainty (definitely worth getting the adaptive dampers, variable steering and M brakes). Love the quietness of the cabin and really comfortable on longer trips. My petrol consumption on highway driving is about 7.5 Litres per 100km, combined about 9 litres per 100km and city about 10.5 per 100km.
The production quality on these videos keeps on baffling and impressing me time and time again considering how small the team is. Congratulations! This channel deserves way more subscribers than it already has.
Thanks so much for such a balanced review of the BMW X3. I owned a 2012 version of the X3 and really enjoyed it. I understand your comments about the iDrive, but honestly once you live with the vehicle for a month, you get to understand the logic of the menus and it gets easier. On BMW's website there are short videos about all the different features of the car and how to make adjustments. My advice is to embrace the technology and use it. BMW puts a lot of really thoughtful features in their cars that never make it on reviews of them. A simple, but nice feature is Triple Flash (I think that's what they call it). You tap the blinkers once and they flash three times. Nice feature when you're changing lanes. Anyway this is getting long. Thanks again for the fair review.
Love that you included the packages on the car. I was thinking to myself a little while back, nobody ever says what packages are on the car. You see a car review, and the reviewers say "Oh, this feature and this feature are great!" Then, when you go to the showroom or the spec sheet, you figure out you need to option everything out to unlock those features.
I have the '17 MY X3 (xDrive 35i) and it's incredible the number of improvements the '18 model has gotten over its predecessor. I love my F31, but this looks even better.
When I look at these reviews and look at below half million subs and then realize there are so many channels that fill in the reviews with too much fluff and gimmicks, it pains me in a way. Your reviews are so thorough, 360 degree perspective and will never come off just reading the catalogue. Keep up your great work. P,S: I am considering buying a 2021 X3 30i with M package, this is a 3 year old video, STILL wanted to know what you got to say on the older version,
I never really comment on youtube but this video deserves one. Such an amazing review , the picture quality the sound the editing all amazing good job.
I work at the plant that makes these along with the X5 and X6. The more you use the menu the better it gets. I can navigate with ease. It doesn't take long.
savagegeese yes. I'm also a bit bias. I'm a BMW guy that just happens to work for BMW. But I felt your review was pretty on point. At least in my opinion on how these SAVs feel to drive and navigate.
Tyler Hand it’s good to know these are being built by Americans, I know buying one helps keep you employed. I may put the X5 on my short list for our next SUV
Tyler Hand, I agree. I had an 2012 X3, and I could use iDrive easily after I got over being intimidated. He never went into what's on those menus. There's a lot of thoughtful tech there like being able to set the AC to come on at a set time to cool the car on a hot summer day. Another is being able to map your route the night before on your computer and send it to the nav system to use the next day.
It only took me minutes to learn how to use iDrive effectively. I love the system so much and enjoy these type of cars that I am now in negotiations for a lease on my third consecutive Bimmer. BTW-I am older than the Pope...
yeah. reading what I just wrote and watching the actual intro - you could have taken the time to use a rag and remove all the small dust particles from the close-ups. dude!
Dude, your reviews are spot on. I really appreciate the straight up and conscientious approach. You have it dialed-in to the max, kinda like I would review cars if I did this sort of thing! Thanks for what you do.
I watch a lot of car reviews and yours are hands down the best. The cinematography and music is top notch. You cover all the important features of the vehicle, you are not reticent to criticize something you think could be better. I appreciate you pointing out the various mechanical bits and the enhancements when the vehicle is on the hoist. You close with your final thoughts which provides a useful summary for the viewer. Plus, you have a great sense of humour and trigger a smile and laugh now and then. Great job! I look forward to your next review.
Thanks for the thoroughness and engineering depth of your review, especially the “in the shop” section! It really differentiates your videos and is very helpful for people like me who really want to understand a car before buying. Excellent!
Thank you for that amazing, NO BS, straightforward, to the point and in-depth critical review. You are possibly the first video I've seen that shot underneath the car - a place no reviewer goes or talks about. To talk about it is one thing but to take the camera there and show what is being talked about is another. So thank you! Please do a similar review if you haven't yet on the BMW X3 M40i - would love to know what you think about the M version of this SUV. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
You have way too few subscribers for the amount of work you put into your videos. I hope you get a million before the years end. Plus that shifter looks like a personal massager.
Haha, gotta love the differences in the car specs all around the world, I am in the UK and will get my X3 M Sport next month, I am stunned by the differences most notably (perhaps even obvious difference) is the boot (trunk for some), the boot floor and load lip are totally level on UK cars but then we don't have a spare wheel just run flat tyres. The lack of a spare gives extra storage and a dedicated place to put the boot cover, very useful. Nice review and an interesting take on what is good and bad in the car, us brits think the car is huge with masses and masses of space in it.
Thanks for the incredible review. Waivered between the GLC, Q5 and XC60, but your attention to detail sold me. I'm getting this vehicle and already sent my order for the 2019 model.
Thanks Goose! Once again, a tremendous review. As someone who has leased since 2005, I will consider leasing an X3. However, I shudder when think about the long term maintenance costs of the incredibly complex vehicles we are presented with today.
FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............. Mark I need 2 things from you... First, waiting 3 weeks for videos ain't gonna fly, I need at least one video a week from you. Second, is there a way to purchase a Savagegeese t-shirt with the logo? Great video my brotha, keep up the good work and quality vids.
Larry, why are you killing on the piano track? It reminds me of The Very Best Of Yanni cd I still play from time to time. As soon as I heard the music, I settled into my leather office chair, grabbed some 2 day old popcorn and watched the best car reviewer on You Tube.
Maybe it's because I used to live in LA and got the chance to perform with the best studio/session players in the business. Yanni? Jesus F. Christ, music to suicide by.
Absolutely love this these reviews, so logically written and polished, as well as entertaining! Great work. 😊 Even if you made gardening videos or something, I'd still watch it.
I had the pleasure of owning an new 2012 x3. It was very basic. It just had leather , navigation and the sunroof. One of the best driving automobiles I have owned. I had the pleasure of owning the N/a strait six. Quiet and torquey. Reasonable power down low with very good throttle response. At 5000 rpm to the redline it would go bananas. With wonderful induction noises. Then the Perfact shift at 7000 rpm. I got over 30 mpg at 75 mph and gas mileage never dropped below 23.5 mpg over the time I owned it. I know the t4 makes more power......but it is a doorstop compared to the strait six. On one damp day I entered an exit ramp way too fast. To make matters worst it was an down hill decreasing radius turn. The x3 nosed in and steeped the tail out. She drifted for what seemed like half a minute ( more like 2 or 3 seconds). I powered out of the turn and straitened up. No drama at all. On all season tiers. With the stability control on. Back then the steering was horrible. Drive by remote. As the tiers loaded up you would regain road feel through the suspension. At 6.5 feet tall I could get comfortable in any seat the X3 had. I loved that SUV. Mine had zero problems and Bmw took care of the scheduled maintenance. I moved on after 2 years 12,000 miles.
I purchased it. It was a demo car all white white leather interior black carpet. Not a fan of white. It was a beautiful car. I purchased it for 36k with 6000 miles on it. We only drove it on long trips and weekends. Two years later in only had 12k on it. I took it in for an oil change and the BMW dealer offered me 31k. I am pretty positive they already had an buyer for it.
Serious thought. A coworker of mine bought a plug-in hybrid. When driving, they were informed, when driving up steep hills, they can switch into a "sport mode" that kicks on the gas engine for additional power. On a conventional car, the engine is normally running and warmed up by the time they ask for additional output. The Question: are there any ramifications to these plug-in hybrids that call upon their gas engines to work hard right off the bat without ever being warmed up via low stress use? Sorry, I know its not specifically relevent to the exact car in this video.
+100 on mentioning the fragility of those collision sensors and modules in the front bumper. I was driving my 645ix very slowly forward and managed to drive over a very low curb. When I pulled away the bumper came loose from the undercarriage a bit. Body shop told me NO damage to the undercarriage, headlights or anything else; just the bumper and some trim pieces. It took over a month and $11,000 for repairs because my the collision sensing modules had to be replaced and aligned and the shop had no idea how to do it, car had to go back to BMW to have a sensor replaced and the whole system realigned. It was a nightmare.
You got to try that X3 M40i with the inline 6 B58 engine! Also the iDrive should have a search that should take you to or tell you where something is in the menu.
So thorough! You are one of the best. I love learning about suspension components, tire compounds and performance tests. You know what else I love? learning about how annoying the buttons/storage cubbies are in a car. This is totally non-sarcastic. Also, M/Sport breaks on a crossover? What? Moms doing track days?
Another good review. Your inspection of the parts underneath did make me value the car a bit more. Perhaps the best way to buy a BMW is to go bone stock with the engine and suspension/sports upgrade to get the best parts without having to sell a kidney to afford it.
Best 2018 X3 review I've seen so far (and I've seen a few). After owning one for 3 months I have to agree. Good tips about driving in the different modes, using the shifter instead of the paddles and shutting off DSC and auto-start for a quicker take off.
We went with an X5 because the X3 does technically have more trunk space but they sacrifice space in the main cab to make that happen, which mirrors your thoughts on the room to get into the rear seat. It's a much better people-hauler while the X5 imo is more for the couple or small family that just wants a little more room.
dont you love that 3 step process to bring down the back seats? 1. go to the trunk, pull the levers, 2. back seats head rest get stuck against the front seat and dont go all the way down, 3. go to the front seat and move it up. great review overall! love that interior. anyone else notice when he was driving, why were gauges blurred out? going too fast or something?
1betterthanyou1 How common is it? None of my cars have had them, even ones with electric assist. In fact, I even had a software issue with my steering system that caused the wheel to oscillate, but no warnings on the dash or any fault codes were thrown.
Low power steering fluid lights and power steering system servicing lights are not the same as power steering system failure lights. What good is a power steering failure light while you're driving? Your steering system fails, you fly off the road, wrap around a tree, get knocked out, and you instruments tells you your steering system might not be working.
Skipper That's my understanding. An electric power steering system failure is only a problem when your driving, and that's usually when it fails. A light is no use when it's already clear your power steering system is out.
I am so pleased I found you on You Tube. Your review of this vehicle is by far the best I have seen and I so appreciate your look at the undercarriage and consideration of the engineering. All in all a thoughtful and engaging experience. So many reviewers just rave about about the zero to sixty acceleration and how many bottles of water they can fit in the door boxes. I am looking to buy this vehicle and I would really like to find someone who can help sort out which of the optional packages to choose - I find them overwhelming and, as you point out, they are expensive. I have not yet found an article or video where someone steps through all the options and makes recommendations with consideration of useful functionality versus the frivolous tech.
Brilliant review! So engrossing and informative. So much better than the drama of some and a much more better than the nincompoops who talk about cup holders and glove compartments. Thank you!
As usual, a terrific review. The interior touch screen jutting out of the dash is a horrendous design idea, many manufacturers are doing this now including Mazda and it is just the worst thoughtless poorest design I've ever seen. The way to do the screen properly is the way that it is done in the Porsche Macan. Integrated into the dash excellent in its intuitiveness and function. Savage geese has become the best car reviewer on UA-cam.
Great review as always. Had an e46 m3 back in the day, dumped it once the mileage got high, considered an x3 for the wife recently but ultimately passed. We put miles on our cars and keep them long term, BMWs just don't make sense. I spoke with the dealer who informed me approx 80% of their business is via lease. They don't have incentive to build a long term reliable car, they have a specific market of customers. I doubt many of them are informed, or care for that matter if it makes it to 200k
Interesting automotive climate to be watching your excellent reviews. We are in such a transitional "teenage" era of automotive engineering with things such as semi autonomous driving, fly by wire everything, touch screen this and that. So many pro's and many unexpected cons.
I love so much that savage is such a straight shooter. Not afraid to tell you the truth. Easily my favorite thing about his reviews
The amount of work you put in to your videos is really admirable such an excellent job
Equal to the amount of work the owner will put in when this vehicle breaks.

How is the car now?
@@Max-mc6fwProbably a 36 months lease and it’s already on its 2nd or 3rd owner.
This ca is likely in a junk yard now lol

Best review of BMW X3 I’ve seen - and I’ve looked at loads! Thanks.
this is the best BMW X3 review i have ever seen
The shot at 18:58 to 19:01 is amazing .. Really amazing attention to detail
yea it almost looked fake, like a video game cinematic scene
He first introduced this shot in his Durango SRT review intro.
Holy shit I was in the middle of binge watching savagegeese and a new video pops up! LET THE BINGE CONTINUE!!! Keep up the awesome work!
This video is one of the best I’ve seen. Professional big production channels don’t even do this good of reviews. Thank you.

Best UA-cam car reviews.. Just wish they came with more frequency
gladdy02 Quality takes time. I dont want to know how long his 30min vids take to shoot and edit
O I agree, I love his videos and quality. I understand it takes time to get the cars for as long as he wants and to do the shooting and editing. I think it's worth it though.
Love the new piano music! Adds and meshes well with your production quality

The quality of reviews/production on this channel is phenomenal!
Man, you are the only one that i know that gets into long term ownership. cudos to you!
Muffin Racing Yeah, if a journalist has a press car just assume it's loaded or nearly loaded. Automakers rarely give base models to journalists.
Really enjoying the music you choose for your videos. Love it!! Great review!
that door shot near 19 min was awesome, totally stealing that if ever in need. keep up the fantastic work!
I have the '17 MY X3 (xDrive 35i) and it's incredible the number of improvements the '18 model has gotten over its predecessor. I love my F31, but this looks even better.
What a great addition to the videos. The brake down of costly add-ons that put the car in perspective is great. 1:59 Please keep doing that.
Thats the plan on future videos.
Other than that was the opinions in video aligned with reality?
savagegeese yes.
OMG OMG the quality of the intro and the cinematography.... jesus please spare me i'm getting too emotional.... really.
yeah. reading what I just wrote and watching the actual intro - you could have taken the time to use a rag and remove all the small dust particles from the close-ups. dude!
Lighting strips on the doors? Can you please bash on them for 40 minutes in the next car that has them?
Awesome 30 min review and its not boring..full of relevant info👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hello from France 🇫🇷 ! I ordered last week a BMW X3 M Sport package and I’ll receive it in June. Your report is the best I’ve never seen about the X3.
I'm 1:39 in and reminded again why this is the best review channel on UA-cam.
this intro put me to tears. Your quality is next level!
Great production SG. Worth the wait!
absolutely great and beautiful cinematography.
quality review ! Good cinematic camera movement , great information. Thank you
Thanks for the thoroughness and engineering depth of your review, especially the “in the shop” section! It really differentiates your videos and is very helpful for people like me who really want to understand a car before buying. Excellent!
How can you be so good at reviewing cars? Definitely the top #1 I've ever seen
18:54 Not sure why, but I really like the transition here and also appreciate the step in / start up sequence you did
Great video man, keep it up
I watch all your reviews. I agree that your reviews, overall, are the best. You make a great team.
You have way too few subscribers for the amount of work you put into your videos. I hope you get a million before the years end. Plus that shifter looks like a personal massager.
Most honest and calming review for this crossover I’ve ever seen. Subbed! 😊
Great job. Your videos keep getting better. great filming and production.
Thank you, a ton of effort and care go into making them. Its rare I just make a video for the sake of it unless the vehicle is straight up junk.
Wow, most detailed review I've seen by far. Couldn't decide between this and the new Disco Sport - think you just made up my mind!
every day I ended up checking if there is any new uploads; my new addiction
I haven't seen Action Jackson in years! Great vid by the way!
Spare tire is an option in the US. By default you don't get it.
Great car (for leasing only) and great review.
Yo Mike, time is my enemy! Things should be more consistent soon. Check the website for the link for merch.
Mike, it takes a long time to make a video while sleeping. Do you have any idea how long it takes to find matching, depressing piano tracks?
Thanks Mark......
Great car and a great review 😁
Absolutely love this these reviews, so logically written and polished, as well as entertaining! Great work. 😊
Even if you made gardening videos or something, I'd still watch it.
You, my friend, make the best reviews. intelligent and critical.
Good Job man ! Il it one of my favorite vidéo on new bmw x3 2018 !
Incredibly professional review, goes straight up to favorites!
been meaning to comment for
awhile.. you top all other want to be automobile reviewers.. great work!!!
great vid. In future reviews, can you mention visibility, stereo sound and price as tested? :]
Best X3 review ever! Finally a review that mentions the amazing steering! 👍
Best X3 walk-through on UA-cam.
Guess I am going to take a 30 minute poop
Devin Stambolziovski ME TOO
Ditto. Full disclosure; I’m on the crapper as I type this response comment. 💩
Lol
same here dude lol
Literally me right now
I learn so much when you get under cars
Great detailed review, good video editing, great taste of music and it will be great if you get KIA Stinger for a review.
Thanks for the kg conversions... on behalf of your many international viewers...
1:59 Harmom
After owning a Mini with Harmon Kardon sound for 13 years, I’m still not convinced the sound is better than my 2000 Jetta.
Damn, it's about time you posted another video!
It’s always a good day when you upload, great review as always Mark!
The best car reviewer on YT.
dont you love that 3 step process to bring down the back seats? 1. go to the trunk, pull the levers, 2. back seats head rest get stuck against the front seat and dont go all the way down, 3. go to the front seat and move it up. great review overall! love that interior. anyone else notice when he was driving, why were gauges blurred out? going too fast or something?
It notifies you when the water pump fails? Well, thats useful!
No joke, there's a warning light when the power steering system fails as well.
It should automatically fix itself and bill you!
