Where would you guys place this relative to the 2019 RDX? You had said in that review it was Macan GTS > Acura RDX > BMW X3. And then in this video said the GTS was much better than the M40i. Was curious about where the RDX slots in terms of driving and overall when considering things all up, tech/luxury/comfort/driving.
Zac Boller iirc they said the AWD (and by extension the handling) waa better in the Acura not the overall vehicle. Pretty sure the the current gen Acura doesn't have a performance oriented variant so not really a fair comparison unless you're one of those weird people who doesn't care about speed. Sure that pretty much describes this segments target demographic but that's besides the point. I think the savagegeese review might be more helpful for that comparison since he did the 30i. I picked the BMW because of the performance variant. They also share engine with the 3/4 series 40i versions so aftermarket support is popping if you find a 4 second 0-60 to be a bit pedestrian. Also BMW rear biases their AWD which makes it more fun (although more challenging) to drive in snow. Right now if you want performance its this the SQ5 or the Macan GTS which stickers at almost 70k usd. The SQ is the only other one id take but the reliability and maintnance of VAG cars steers me away every time. I do like the looks of the Acura better though but definitely doesnt have the midrange pull this does.
It is not about too much tech. It is more about the interface design and ease of use. From your video, this BMW did ok. Do you think the (new) A class you previewed in Europe are better or worse in terms of tech?

That's a better and more informative way of doing the review of the X3 M40i, fun to watch and very easy to understand what you will truly get from this car, as well as the pros and cons. @@kaspern5607 yeah the reliability was with the 2018 model, they reworked the engine after the 2019 model. So if you wanted to get one, get the 2020 or later version.

I saw this last week, decided to trade in my 2016 X3 28i and get the 2018 X3 M40i, loaded! I followed Jakub’s advice and definitely got the M40i. WOW, this is a rocket ship! Love it. Thanks for the best reviews on the Web.
You both have good points about the difference in the Macan and the X3 M40i but based on my own personal needs and lifestyle, my hat goes off to the X3... Simply because it can boogie almost as well as the Macan while maintaining a lot more usability in everyday conditions especially when dealing with interior space and comfort.
Great job guys (as usual). I own this car, and your points are fair. Also looked at the Macan, and agree with your comparison points, but as a dad with 2 young kids, this made more sense from a utility standpoint. It's plenty fast enough for a family car.
Triet, I went Jakub's route. But I still look-out for these new X3's on the road. I think they're the best looking X3's thus far--and way better looking than X2's. Enjoy!
The x3 is punching well above it's weight here. It's definitely better than the Macan in outright performance. The Macan GTS edges it but stickers 15k higher. The m40i msrps closer to the base Macan. It definitely doesn't have sport car handing but you can stand on it from a standstill and it can plant all the power it has. Even with a tune it has no problem planting power. It launches harder than my Coyote Mustang which is pretty crazy considering it's heavier and putting down less power. Kind of disappointed they haven't put out a true M version of the x3 but this is a pretty good sleeper specially since 99% of the ones I see are 30i or 28i (for the F25s). I'm just thankful it shares engine platform with other BMWs which means it gets aftermarket support because of the 3/4 series. I like the Macan look way better but it's definitely more of a sporty suv than a multi purpose one.
Too underpowered. Definitely not in the same league. The hybrid version is close in numbers but all the reviews on the Volvo hybrid system make it look pretty bad. If you're looking for more practical it's a good suv. If you're looking for fun with some practicality it's just not there.
if one's looking for fun, why would they buy an suv, whatever it is: bmw, audi or volvo? also, xc t6 with polestar will give you 326/334 bhp and 430/440 Nm torque.
While we loved out BMW X3 28i ( 2016 ), i wanted a "bit more" ....... BMW redid the X3 line up in 2018, and on Friday we traded in out 2016 X3 for a new 2018 X3 M40i. Wow !!! this thing is a rocket ship. So very fast, handles great, so much power - effortless speed - the best car I have ever owned !!! 4.6 seconds 0 to 60. It's loaded with all the BMW "toys". Something nice and new to play with. While driving on I 75 this weekend, this thing was "cruising easily" at 92 MPH while running at 2,200 rpms. Nice !!! Thanks for this review pushing me over the edge ....... oh, and you must get the M40i version.
I had exactly this question several month ago, BMW X3 M40i or Porsche Macan GTS. Since I experienced the current Macan and it is so low tec, my choice was done quickly. I come from X3 F25 and the new G01 is unbelievable better in every aspect. Good job bmw.
I'm trying to decide between buying a used 2017 Macan S or a lease on a BMW X3 M40i. I don't like the tech in the Macan - especially the instrument cluster which seems so dated. But I like how the Macan's exterior looks better than the X3s. Also, the X3 is faster than the 2017 Macan S. Hmmmm... can someone help me decide.
I suspect most reviewers can't afford these cars which is perfectfully ok. I suspect most of us can't afford these cars but it clearly doesn't stop us from watching these two crazy canadian guys..eh?
Great review! I have owned a Macan S, and now own the x3 m40i. I love the X40i-beats the Macan in comfort, tech, luxury and overall drivability. And in sport mode it’s feels faster.
Thanks for the entertaining review guys. It's amazing to see how far the X3 has come. My uncle bought tht first gen for his son. My mom bought one shortly thereafter ( for me essentially when I graduated from college), just a different color. It had no tech at all. We still have it - the one thing I still appreciate about it is that it drives more like a car than SUVs or SAV as BMW advertised back then. I recall that car reviewers were never fond of the X3, so I'm glad it's become more popular the last several years. And yeah it does look a lot better.

X3 is my fav BMW SUV body. Got to park next to one of these at the LCBO yesterday, it’s very good looking live. I can’t wait to school one, lol. Of the two, I’d take a Macan as well just for the handling.
Gerstenprinz I think if you parked them side by side the BMW would be the more striking vehicle, but they are both good looking in their own ways. The Porsche design cues from the 911 helps all their stuff look purposeful I find, but the BMW in this trim has a bit of tasteful bling that gives it the edge. I guess thats why both of them are going to sell pretty good. I have a Grand Cherokee, just to say I’m not a BMW fan boy.
Guys, great comprehensive review, touching on all aspects. The reason I would choose the m40i besides the ride and infotainment is its space compared to rivals. Biggest trunk in its class. Well rounded speedy family car.

I have a friend who bought one of these. He’s a Porsche guy and always wanted a Macan. However, I said the exact same things you did when I went to the BMW dealer with him. This is a “practical” Macan. It’s better at the SUV part, yet it does deliver good performance. It’s also so much cheaper to lease than a Macan.
I bought the X3 30i as well. I’ve had it for a month and find the high tech stuff pretty easy to use. The engine has plenty of get up and go. As the boys say, the lumbar adjustment sucks. I wish that the front seats were more comfortable. They are The ventilated kind, which are firmer than the non-ventilated ones. Seat comfort is the only somewhat disappointing feature of the car. I’ve ordered some sheepskin seat covers to hopefully increase seat comfort.
No way X2 will age better over this X3. Most crossovers look like the definition of confusion between suv and sedan, hence the name. They get the best of both worlds, and trade away their looks. X3 will age better, have to agree with Jacob.
Macan GTS hands down not just due to driving dynamics but also reliability and build quality. For the cost of the BMW I'd opt for a E class wagon or XF Wagon if I needed to do any kid hauling. Better yet, a CX5 then spend the rest on a ND Miata with enough left over for tires and brake pads! I've really enjoyed seeing this channel progress keep up the good work!
I’d get the BMW, especially because you cannot order ANY Porsche cars in Germany at the moment, and probably not until the end of the year at best due to problems meeting the new exhaust regs.
Wow this exhaust is amazing. The fact that they have the customization means you can set it up how you want that is the future not needing improvement. The complaints are completely subjective and very nit picky. I am not a BMW fan boy I never owned one. I just looked at and test drove a bunch of luxury vehicles this 2019 BMW M40i was by far the best with one exception the Land Rover valar was a close 2nd but a completely different driving experience. I think I will be getting my 1st BMW. I love this thing amazing.
The tested Porsche macan GTS from your last video costs 85K with few options only, this BMW 74K fully loaded so its a big difference price wise but i like the GTS. Great video guys.
It was hard to choose between this and the new SQ5. I loved both but ultimately there’s something about the Audi that attracted me more, got a better deal and had a much better customer experience overall, so I got the SQ5. I’ve only had it for a month and already but 9,000km on it and couldn’t be happier. If you guys want a head to head with this you’re welcome to take mine out to review 😊
Also chose the SQ5 in Manhattan grey with red diamond stitched seats. Prefer the interior. Simple, sporty elegance and like you said, the customer experience was better for me at audi than BMW. Was able to get 11% off MSRP which landed a bit under invoice! Add MSDs which bmw no longer offers and the SQ5 leases really well!! Enjoy! Straight pipes needs to record review it!
Everyone has their opinion especially when it comes to looks, I personally love it. Regardless I’m just happy and thankful that I was able to afford the car, regardless of BMW or Audi.
Love the GTA style parking challenge. You guys should do it everytime you get a Bimmer with it and do some sort of time attack score board by car by driver. Also, I think the new BMW "nostril" is growing on me, I hated it at first, but for some reason, I think it looks good on this X3.
I have a 2017 X3...not the m version. It's a great SUV though. Very happy with it. Drives great, tons of room, good on gas. I'm really happy with it. I would love the X3 M. Great channel guys, keep it up.
MetropoloBot Toronto roads are always always busy and congested and under construction. To get good space you have to leave the city or come out on a Sunday evening or something.

Great review guys. Here in Montreal there was a fully equipped 2018 demo model for sale back in December with about 2k kms and was selling for over $10K off list in blue. All the M badging and upgraded interior. BMW unfortunately never told me (because presumably they didn't let their Canadian sales people know) that the sale was ending on Dec 31 contrary to the USA where it stayed on until the car shows where they were giving an additional 1% rebate on the interest rate for a lease. I would've loved one but there's always next year. But honestly I'm not that unhappy that I didn't get the X3 because I got a great deal on an X1 and I have to say I'm very very happy with this peppy SUV. it's smaller, easier to park. Drives like a car and is fully equipped except for Apple Car Play...Just got it 2 months ago and I'm very impressed. The only vehicle that I've brought home new and there were 0 defects aside from my toy: 2012 G37xS Coupe (Red / never winter driven)! AND this bimmer came with features besides all the other tech safety gizmos: Auto Self Parking....very cool and I didn't know that it this feature. You can also add programmable features to the vehicle; I would highly recommend going to see a pro rather than buying the app and bluetooth dongle. There are a lot of hidden convenience features, screen add-ons and HUD add ons. Like the 5 and 7 series such as: When you approach your car in the summer by clicking the remote and holding down the unlock button for about 10 - 15 seconds the car will: unlock, mirrors unfold, all 4 windows will open, the sunshade will retract and the sunroof will open which will help to cool down it down. Holding the lock button or the convenience handle for a few seconds will close everything up too. In fact you can use the android or apple connect app to unlock and lock the doors, open the windows, toot the horn and flash the headlights: Useful features is you're trying to find your car in the mall parking lot and forgot exactly where you left it. You can also upload a map destination to the car so that you can plan your trip ahead of time. And my favorite: There's a timer for turning on the car ventilation system...so cool of the car. Also you can close the vehicle by the handle and program to have a 2 second delay to fold the mirrors so you can choose to fold them or not depending....And my satellite has rewind so I can play several tunes over again if I hear something I like. The upgraded infotainment system is good enough and you won't hear a difference with the upgraded sound system and the $1200 Harmon Kardon system. Pioneer just introduced a tweeter kit that's very elegant looking given their reputation that is specifically introduced to this market. $90 for 2 tweeters and about the same installation costs. They get wired to the mids in the door. They tweeters are installed in the corner plastic in the front ot the front doors where the exterior rearview mirrors are. They drill 3 holes to mount the tweeters over the plastic covers. These tweeters give better upper mids and highs and for a fraction of the HK system. Bimmian automotive from Toronto sells aftermarket parts for Bimmers including LED kits; I changed my fogs to LED and my front and rear turn signals, and my backup lights. Oddly the license plate lights are already LED. Now here's the best part: Pay attention: The tech that adds your programmable features can do this with the ODB II port: Put the lighting system to LED so that you don't need a resistor install! Yes the BMW engineers weren't sure in their CANBUS system if the car would be released with LEDs or regular bulbs so there's an option for that. That way after installation you won't get the error codes or LED flashes when you first start the car. And one final cool feature: The split screen on the upgraded screen allows you to change the view on the right hand side of the split screen. You can scroll through a variety of options such as a clock, distance computer, fuel mileage, additional navigation features, and media. You also get the HP and TQ gauges when you're in sports mode. Another cool feature that I added: When backing up the door handle lights come on to help illuminate the surroundings and alert other drivers. ENJOY!

This is on my short list and I'm really glad you reviewed it. Very good perspective, which echoes what I felt, and a top notch entertaining review as usual! One thing about the Macan GTS though, is if you load it with the same options as your test model (brown full leather seats, ventilation, sunroof, 360, etc...), the MSRP climbs to 93 000, a substantial difference. At 76 000, you will have a really cool bare bones sports SUV or a very capable luxurious SUV. Decisions decisions!
Just a note, the subcategories in the driving modes “stick”. So, say, to get to SPORT INDIVIDUAL, you only need to tap SPORT once next time, if INDIVIDUAL was the last mode you had selected. Great review, by the way. I agree with pretty much all you said, and I’m with Yuri in this one.
get one as a dealer loaner for right about 42k with less than 5k miles and full warrenty and its the best price/power tech option available. I just got one this way, super impressed with it so far.
If your roads are a bit rough or are concrete with undulations between each segment of concrete then be prepared for a rough and very bouncy ride. I have had mine for one month and I regret the purchase. No difference in suspension between eco, comfort, and sport modes. If comfort was actually comfortable then this would truly be an amazing vehicle.

Jacob you are cool bro. Yury not so much. always complaining. This X3 with M sport package in white looks great, i love it. The x3 should be compared with the GLC,Q5 and XC60 not the Macan in my opinion and the BMW rocks. It would be my pick.
Amazing review like always, but good god I'm with SavageGeese on this one. Cars are becoming so needlessly complicated. It will become impossible to iron out all the bugs. There are so many (expensive) points of failures....it's crazy.
I'm with you. I basically need bluetooth and that's it. All this tech in the cars will age very badly and you will not be able to replace/update it easily. Computers have a 3 year life cycle (in most businesses), so it's not a good idea putting all this tech into a car that is supposed to last 20 years.
Bruh aint nothing wrong with the way the industry is manufacturing the tech in vehicles and watnot. Listen one can own his bimmer past 15-20 yrs if they want the thing is those would be classics with the old features inside. We clearly already have that flow in effect with most everything. You buy whatever you want

Recently bought a 2019 x3 M40i. I always watch your alls videos regularly, but for this video I don’t feel like the beginning did the car justice. It seemed as though Yuri was being bad cop in this video compared to others which doesnt represent how good the car is. Which is fine as it may turn folks away and lower the price for guys like me :) But after having spent a large amount of time driving a 2016 Macan S (6 cyl turbo), I can wholeheartedly say that this one is a large step up in almost every way. The Macan is more flickable, but thats not the purpose of SAVs. On long road trips the Macan in my experience beat up the back seat riders who had little leg room. This has a bigger cabin, the back seat feels like the back of a 5 series, and it still manages to handle great and accelerate faster than the 16 Macan S. Not trying to justify my purchase or anything like that, I just feel that if there are others looking for a X3 M40I, take this video with a grain of salt and test drive one. While the tech is somewhat gimmicky, it actually works well on ours. Carplay Connects when you get in, gesture control I use regularly, drive modes do go back to comfort after shut off, but i would also not put the car is sport or give it a hard load until the oil is up to temp. Overall its a great car for those who want a sports car, but need the room for a family of 4. Our 2 dogs have plenty of room in the boot as well. We average 27 gal over all and 30 on the highway with 93 in eco mode. Hope this can help someone! Like i Said I watch most of your videos and happy you guys make them, just wanted to give my 2 cents as an owner. Cheers!
Picked '18 GLC 43 6 months ago. Did not want to watch this review for fear that I had made a grave mistake. Now that I watched the video, I'm good with my choice.
Test drove this in Greenwich, CT at the Concours. The locals were NOT amused with the crackles and pops but it sure made me and my 3 friends giggle. Did Jakub not mention the gloss black at all here?
As the owner of both a Porsche Macan S and now a BMW X3 m40i, I will tell you that both vehicles have their strong and weak points. The Porsche has better control and overall driving dynamics. The BMW is faster and the speed is always there in all gears. The Macan S has some turbo lag and needs to rev up higher unless in sport mode. The BMW has power in even comfort mode and hardly any turbo lag. Both are excellent vehicles, but the BMW has more cargo room and feels more like a daily driver than the Porsche does. Just my thoughts after owning both vehicles.
I have been hoping you guys would do a review of the X3 M40i for so long! Especially since I know you’d talk more about the cray tech inside. I just put in my order for a 2019 M40i and can’t wait for it to arrive!!
I got to test one of these and one of the BMW guys scolded me for calling it Augmented Reality hahah must be some legal jargon. Either way this thing was peppy and fun for a family hauler. I had similar opinions to you guys! Great video!
My. Favorite. Luxury. SUV. I totally agree with Jakub with the Taillights they look so dope! I'd choose this over the Macan for the comfort and luggage space, Macan for the sportiness.
Damn those peasant blockers looks legit! Another awesome video! But for price it is definitely expensive. If I am in the market for an SAV this would be the first I go to.
I’ve not driven either one, and while I like the smallish X3 SUV, I’d probably buy the Macan, which seems like it drives sportier or more car-like. But among BMW crossovers and SUVs, I think the X3 is the sweet spot.
Take a closer look at the visor test. While the visors extend they don't extend far enough to block the entire side window. The two inch gap drives me nuts because the sun always seems to find it's way there. My guess- When BMW changed the X3 body style for 2017, they either intentionally used the old stock visors or they missed that detail and chose not to fix it. Really like the car though.

I would say RDX is waaaay at the bottom, and probably shouldn't be compared to these tbh. More similar to X3 28i or Q5 2.0T

I saw this last week, decided to trade in my 2016 X3 28i and get the 2018 X3 M40i, loaded! I followed Jakub’s advice and definitely got the M40i. WOW, this is a rocket ship! Love it. Thanks for the best reviews on the Web.
You both have good points about the difference in the Macan and the X3 M40i but based on my own personal needs and lifestyle, my hat goes off to the X3... Simply because it can boogie almost as well as the Macan while maintaining a lot more usability in everyday conditions especially when dealing with interior space and comfort.

Great job guys (as usual). I own this car, and your points are fair. Also looked at the Macan, and agree with your comparison points, but as a dad with 2 young kids, this made more sense from a utility standpoint. It's plenty fast enough for a family car.
Triet, I went Jakub's route. But I still look-out for these new X3's on the road. I think they're the best looking X3's thus far--and way better looking than X2's. Enjoy!
The x3 is punching well above it's weight here. It's definitely better than the Macan in outright performance. The Macan GTS edges it but stickers 15k higher. The m40i msrps closer to the base Macan. It definitely doesn't have sport car handing but you can stand on it from a standstill and it can plant all the power it has. Even with a tune it has no problem planting power. It launches harder than my Coyote Mustang which is pretty crazy considering it's heavier and putting down less power. Kind of disappointed they haven't put out a true M version of the x3 but this is a pretty good sleeper specially since 99% of the ones I see are 30i or 28i (for the F25s). I'm just thankful it shares engine platform with other BMWs which means it gets aftermarket support because of the 3/4 series. I like the Macan look way better but it's definitely more of a sporty suv than a multi purpose one.
Why not XC60 (t6 or t8) ?
Too underpowered. Definitely not in the same league. The hybrid version is close in numbers but all the reviews on the Volvo hybrid system make it look pretty bad. If you're looking for more practical it's a good suv. If you're looking for fun with some practicality it's just not there.
if one's looking for fun, why would they buy an suv, whatever it is: bmw, audi or volvo? also, xc t6 with polestar will give you 326/334 bhp and 430/440 Nm torque.
Purchased a 2019 and did a stage 2 with full e85. It's a beast..0-60 in 3.5...I absolutely love it

While we loved out BMW X3 28i ( 2016 ), i wanted a "bit more" ....... BMW redid the X3 line up in 2018, and on Friday we traded in out 2016 X3 for a new 2018 X3 M40i. Wow !!! this thing is a rocket ship. So very fast, handles great, so much power - effortless speed - the best car I have ever owned !!! 4.6 seconds 0 to 60. It's loaded with all the BMW "toys". Something nice and new to play with. While driving on I 75 this weekend, this thing was "cruising easily" at 92 MPH while running at 2,200 rpms. Nice !!! Thanks for this review pushing me over the edge ....... oh, and you must get the M40i version.

Since I experienced the current Macan and it is so low tec, my choice was done quickly.
I come from X3 F25 and the new G01 is unbelievable better in every aspect.

I'm trying to decide between buying a used 2017 Macan S or a lease on a BMW X3 M40i. I don't like the tech in the Macan - especially the instrument cluster which seems so dated. But I like how the Macan's exterior looks better than the X3s. Also, the X3 is faster than the 2017 Macan S. Hmmmm... can someone help me decide.

Thanks for the entertaining review guys. It's amazing to see how far the X3 has come. My uncle bought tht first gen for his son. My mom bought one shortly thereafter ( for me essentially when I graduated from college), just a different color. It had no tech at all. We still have it - the one thing I still appreciate about it is that it drives more like a car than SUVs or SAV as BMW advertised back then.
I recall that car reviewers were never fond of the X3, so I'm glad it's become more popular the last several years. And yeah it does look a lot better.

Gerstenprinz I think if you parked them side by side the BMW would be the more striking vehicle, but they are both good looking in their own ways. The Porsche design cues from the 911 helps all their stuff look purposeful I find, but the BMW in this trim has a bit of tasteful bling that gives it the edge. I guess thats why both of them are going to sell pretty good. I have a Grand Cherokee, just to say I’m not a BMW fan boy.

Guys, great comprehensive review, touching on all aspects. The reason I would choose the m40i besides the ride and infotainment is its space compared to rivals. Biggest trunk in its class. Well rounded speedy family car.

I have a friend who bought one of these. He’s a Porsche guy and always wanted a Macan. However, I said the exact same things you did when I went to the BMW dealer with him. This is a “practical” Macan. It’s better at the SUV part, yet it does deliver good performance. It’s also so much cheaper to lease than a Macan.
I have a M40i fully loaded. I love it. I highly recommend it. SQ5 and Macan are also good cars.

I went for the X3 30i, because I have a Boxster S and an M240i. Plus the 4-banger X3 still does 0-60 in 6.0 sec; not too shabby.
I bought the X3 30i as well. I’ve had it for a month and find the high tech stuff pretty easy to use. The engine has plenty of get up and go. As the boys say, the lumbar adjustment sucks. I wish that the front seats were more comfortable. They are The ventilated kind, which are firmer than the non-ventilated ones. Seat comfort is the only somewhat disappointing feature of the car. I’ve ordered some sheepskin seat covers to hopefully increase seat comfort.
No way X2 will age better over this X3. Most crossovers look like the definition of confusion between suv and sedan, hence the name. They get the best of both worlds, and trade away their looks. X3 will age better, have to agree with Jacob.

Macan GTS hands down not just due to driving dynamics but also reliability and build quality. For the cost of the BMW I'd opt for a E class wagon or XF Wagon if I needed to do any kid hauling. Better yet, a CX5 then spend the rest on a ND Miata with enough left over for tires and brake pads!

Wow this exhaust is amazing. The fact that they have the customization means you can set it up how you want that is the future not needing improvement. The complaints are completely subjective and very nit picky. I am not a BMW fan boy I never owned one. I just looked at and test drove a bunch of luxury vehicles this 2019 BMW M40i was by far the best with one exception the Land Rover valar was a close 2nd but a completely different driving experience. I think I will be getting my 1st BMW. I love this thing amazing.

It was hard to choose between this and the new SQ5. I loved both but ultimately there’s something about the Audi that attracted me more, got a better deal and had a much better customer experience overall, so I got the SQ5. I’ve only had it for a month and already but 9,000km on it and couldn’t be happier. If you guys want a head to head with this you’re welcome to take mine out to review 😊
SQ5 was on my short list of SUV to test drive as well when I was shopping. Personally I think the SQ5 edges out the X3 on looks.
Also chose the SQ5 in Manhattan grey with red diamond stitched seats. Prefer the interior. Simple, sporty elegance and like you said, the customer experience was better for me at audi than BMW. Was able to get 11% off MSRP which landed a bit under invoice! Add MSDs which bmw no longer offers and the SQ5 leases really well!! Enjoy! Straight pipes needs to record review it!

Everyone has their opinion especially when it comes to looks, I personally love it. Regardless I’m just happy and thankful that I was able to afford the car, regardless of BMW or Audi.
Love the GTA style parking challenge. You guys should do it everytime you get a Bimmer with it and do some sort of time attack score board by car by driver. Also, I think the new BMW "nostril" is growing on me, I hated it at first, but for some reason, I think it looks good on this X3.
I have a 2017 X3...not the m version. It's a great SUV though. Very happy with it. Drives great, tons of room, good on gas. I'm really happy with it. I would love the X3 M. Great channel guys, keep it up.

Great review guys. Here in Montreal there was a fully equipped 2018 demo model for sale back in December with about 2k kms and was selling for over $10K off list in blue. All the M badging and upgraded interior. BMW unfortunately never told me (because presumably they didn't let their Canadian sales people know) that the sale was ending on Dec 31 contrary to the USA where it stayed on until the car shows where they were giving an additional 1% rebate on the interest rate for a lease. I would've loved one but there's always next year. But honestly I'm not that unhappy that I didn't get the X3 because I got a great deal on an X1 and I have to say I'm very very happy with this peppy SUV. it's smaller, easier to park. Drives like a car and is fully equipped except for Apple Car Play...Just got it 2 months ago and I'm very impressed. The only vehicle that I've brought home new and there were 0 defects aside from my toy: 2012 G37xS Coupe (Red / never winter driven)! AND this bimmer came with features besides all the other tech safety gizmos: Auto Self Parking....very cool and I didn't know that it this feature. You can also add programmable features to the vehicle; I would highly recommend going to see a pro rather than buying the app and bluetooth dongle. There are a lot of hidden convenience features, screen add-ons and HUD add ons. Like the 5 and 7 series such as: When you approach your car in the summer by clicking the remote and holding down the unlock button for about 10 - 15 seconds the car will: unlock, mirrors unfold, all 4 windows will open, the sunshade will retract and the sunroof will open which will help to cool down it down. Holding the lock button or the convenience handle for a few seconds will close everything up too. In fact you can use the android or apple connect app to unlock and lock the doors, open the windows, toot the horn and flash the headlights: Useful features is you're trying to find your car in the mall parking lot and forgot exactly where you left it. You can also upload a map destination to the car so that you can plan your trip ahead of time. And my favorite: There's a timer for turning on the car ventilation system...so cool of the car. Also you can close the vehicle by the handle and program to have a 2 second delay to fold the mirrors so you can choose to fold them or not depending....And my satellite has rewind so I can play several tunes over again if I hear something I like. The upgraded infotainment system is good enough and you won't hear a difference with the upgraded sound system and the $1200 Harmon Kardon system. Pioneer just introduced a tweeter kit that's very elegant looking given their reputation that is specifically introduced to this market. $90 for 2 tweeters and about the same installation costs. They get wired to the mids in the door. They tweeters are installed in the corner plastic in the front ot the front doors where the exterior rearview mirrors are. They drill 3 holes to mount the tweeters over the plastic covers. These tweeters give better upper mids and highs and for a fraction of the HK system. Bimmian automotive from Toronto sells aftermarket parts for Bimmers including LED kits; I changed my fogs to LED and my front and rear turn signals, and my backup lights. Oddly the license plate lights are already LED. Now here's the best part: Pay attention: The tech that adds your programmable features can do this with the ODB II port: Put the lighting system to LED so that you don't need a resistor install! Yes the BMW engineers weren't sure in their CANBUS system if the car would be released with LEDs or regular bulbs so there's an option for that. That way after installation you won't get the error codes or LED flashes when you first start the car. And one final cool feature: The split screen on the upgraded screen allows you to change the view on the right hand side of the split screen. You can scroll through a variety of options such as a clock, distance computer, fuel mileage, additional navigation features, and media. You also get the HP and TQ gauges when you're in sports mode. Another cool feature that I added: When backing up the door handle lights come on to help illuminate the surroundings and alert other drivers. ENJOY!

This is on my short list and I'm really glad you reviewed it. Very good perspective, which echoes what I felt, and a top notch entertaining review as usual! One thing about the Macan GTS though, is if you load it with the same options as your test model (brown full leather seats, ventilation, sunroof, 360, etc...), the MSRP climbs to 93 000, a substantial difference. At 76 000, you will have a really cool bare bones sports SUV or a very capable luxurious SUV. Decisions decisions!

Just a note, the subcategories in the driving modes “stick”. So, say, to get to SPORT INDIVIDUAL, you only need to tap SPORT once next time, if INDIVIDUAL was the last mode you had selected. Great review, by the way. I agree with pretty much all you said, and I’m with Yuri in this one.

get one as a dealer loaner for right about 42k with less than 5k miles and full warrenty and its the best price/power tech option available. I just got one this way, super impressed with it so far.
If your roads are a bit rough or are concrete with undulations between each segment of concrete then be prepared for a rough and very bouncy ride. I have had mine for one month and I regret the purchase. No difference in suspension between eco, comfort, and sport modes. If comfort was actually comfortable then this would truly be an amazing vehicle.

Amazing review like always, but good god I'm with SavageGeese on this one. Cars are becoming so needlessly complicated. It will become impossible to iron out all the bugs. There are so many (expensive) points of failures....it's crazy.
I'm with you. I basically need bluetooth and that's it. All this tech in the cars will age very badly and you will not be able to replace/update it easily. Computers have a 3 year life cycle (in most businesses), so it's not a good idea putting all this tech into a car that is supposed to last 20 years.

Recently bought a 2019 x3 M40i. I always watch your alls videos regularly, but for this video I don’t feel like the beginning did the car justice. It seemed as though Yuri was being bad cop in this video compared to others which doesnt represent how good the car is. Which is fine as it may turn folks away and lower the price for guys like me :) But after having spent a large amount of time driving a 2016 Macan S (6 cyl turbo), I can wholeheartedly say that this one is a large step up in almost every way. The Macan is more flickable, but thats not the purpose of SAVs. On long road trips the Macan in my experience beat up the back seat riders who had little leg room. This has a bigger cabin, the back seat feels like the back of a 5 series, and it still manages to handle great and accelerate faster than the 16 Macan S. Not trying to justify my purchase or anything like that, I just feel that if there are others looking for a X3 M40I, take this video with a grain of salt and test drive one. While the tech is somewhat gimmicky, it actually works well on ours. Carplay Connects when you get in, gesture control I use regularly, drive modes do go back to comfort after shut off, but i would also not put the car is sport or give it a hard load until the oil is up to temp. Overall its a great car for those who want a sports car, but need the room for a family of 4. Our 2 dogs have plenty of room in the boot as well. We average 27 gal over all and 30 on the highway with 93 in eco mode. Hope this can help someone! Like i Said I watch most of your videos and happy you guys make them, just wanted to give my 2 cents as an owner. Cheers!

Test drove this in Greenwich, CT at the Concours. The locals were NOT amused with the crackles and pops but it sure made me and my 3 friends giggle. Did Jakub not mention the gloss black at all here?
As the owner of both a Porsche Macan S and now a BMW X3 m40i, I will tell you that both vehicles have their strong and weak points.
The Porsche has better control and overall driving dynamics. The BMW is faster and the speed is always there in all gears. The Macan S has some turbo lag and needs to rev up higher unless in sport mode. The BMW has power in even comfort mode and hardly any turbo lag.
Both are excellent vehicles, but the BMW has more cargo room and feels more like a daily driver than the Porsche does.
Just my thoughts after owning both vehicles.

I got to test one of these and one of the BMW guys scolded me for calling it Augmented Reality hahah must be some legal jargon. Either way this thing was peppy and fun for a family hauler. I had similar opinions to you guys! Great video!
My. Favorite. Luxury. SUV. I totally agree with Jakub with the Taillights they look so dope! I'd choose this over the Macan for the comfort and luggage space, Macan for the sportiness.

I’ve not driven either one, and while I like the smallish X3 SUV, I’d probably buy the Macan, which seems like it drives sportier or more car-like. But among BMW crossovers and SUVs, I think the X3 is the sweet spot.

So, should I pick slightly used X5 40i under 25K kms. or a brand new X3 M40i - both are same price looking to keep for atleast 4 - 5 years ?

Take a closer look at the visor test. While the visors extend they don't extend far enough to block the entire side window. The two inch gap drives me nuts because the sun always seems to find it's way there. My guess- When BMW changed the X3 body style for 2017, they either intentionally used the old stock visors or they missed that detail and chose not to fix it. Really like the car though.

Volvo more comortable, but this one was more enjoyable
