You gotta love the Columbus design having exactly ZERO similarities to any other BMWs^^ No double kidney grill, no side lines or edges, nothing. Just a sailboat for the road. Amazing
@@e.rivera4251 it would make a good Uber...but replace the things like VHS with modern amenities. Actually with today's tech you could probally make it far better.
Okay, I understand that that Columbus car looks weird from the outside, but it looks as spacious and comfortable on the inside as the starship Enterprise. I want it! I want it now! 😭
As much as I've seen this vehicle get positive comments by far the most of all 300 videos on this channel, I cant believe it never made it to production. Such a shame.
It wasn't made by BMW, but had its V-12 powering it. The Italdesign Columbus could be one of those vehicles that the "Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015" allows 325 cars a year or less to be made by small manufacturers. Here's a page about the Columbus: www.motor1.com/photo/3664865/1992-italdesign-columbus/
#4 could be brought back as electric,. Families would love it. Much room, comfy, nice interior, kids and families would love it. Famly weekend van or for camping. 🤗
@@RomainSandt Ital Design is no joke, actually top, I was thinking exactly the same thing, it's a duplex flat, but more drivable than the average motor home, the v12 is awesome but maybe overkill..
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION! a great glimpse of 10 of the oddest, with hundreds more to be added in future videos. As time permits, I'll offer some suggestions!
I remember when the Ital Design Columbus was new. I remember seeing photo's of it in car magazines. I always thought it was very cool. The sea ranger was designed in Italy by Luigi Colani. Thanks.
I drove a stretched 1962 Plymouth 12-seater something-or-another, with 11 passengers entrusted to me, during the 1976 summer season of the Santa Fe Opera. It had been in service from LaGuardia into Manhattan prior to being picked up by a father-son operation. The drove two other similarly configured vehicles. With $7 a night pay, free standing-room only at the performance, and a free soft-drink at intermission(s), it was a great "extra" job for a college student.
I had once a orange plastic miniature of that BMW Columbus bought in Southern India.... didn’t knew what it was supposed to be... till now! Thank you 🙏
Number 13 (Optica): This was definitely NOT quieter than normal airplanes its size. A sample was at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in ~1980 for evaluation. The airplane made the loudest, most annoying whining noise I've ever heard. Visibility may have been great, but you could hear it 10 miles.
it was because this car was a compact car, And that very good brand also had other concepts and was just starting to ride cars. THE GURGEL IS VERY GOOOOOOOOOOD CAR.
The Columbus would make an awesome camper. The Biga is a really innovative, practical idea. My niece just began working for a company that started out as a Kickstarter campaign. They make electric bikes for much the same use as the Biga. This car should be introduced in cities like Seattle that have a younger, more progressive population, and then rolled out to other locations. I think in today’s conservation climate it would be a success.
At the Cost of looking Silly??!! The Columbus is the coolest thing I've seen in van designs, I'd move the center driver seat over to a normal location to make room for another front passenger seat, lose all of the lower seats and kit the thing out as a mini camper.
Yes indeed, two opinions opposite one another. I agree with you, silly writers, I assure you, this this a perfect example of why I keep docking their pay a beer each day.
#4, #3 and #1 are my favorite...the no1 "Bubble car" is an absolute work of art ! I could spend hours looking at it. And the BMW Columbus, wow, i would love to turn one of those into a Camper, at 20 feet long it's certainly has enough room for it ! The Sea Ranger looks straight of of 70's tv serie Space 1999 ! Thanks for putting this video together !
Columbus is nice and so is that last Cadillac looking futuristic car but that Toronado I'm in love with it 💓 AQC Jetway 707 lol I'd just call it my Limonado 😁
I've seen the BMW Columbus live at it's debut, I was shocked how big its interior is ... not to mention the massive V12 - 5.0L engine ( same as in the BMW 850)! Back then, I thought : this will never go into production ... unfortunately, I was right ...
These vehicles almost prove a point that holds true with any invention. I'm sure everyone watching sees at least one that they like and think should've been successful. Anything you make has more to do with how you market it as anything. Timing and luck are imperative also. Many are too far ahead of their time and knowing human nature and our resistance to change is important
I liked the toranodo limo, I saw one of them when I was in my 20's They were made well. That was over 20 years ago. I would buy one of i could find one now. Also. Thanks for the video !!!!
I saw this BMW COLOMBUS on TV in 1992 and I really loved it but later came to know that they won't make it... But still if the BMW recreates the BMW COLOMBUS now with the same design with new Technology and Interior...People will buy in today's world...

Good on ya...! Nice work... totally subjective.
That would make it a 5 liter engine (61 X 5 = 305 cubic inches.)
@@jimburig7064 Good point..you're hired!
Great! When do I start?
These are all very cool I was glad to see the Olds Toronado / Vista Cruiser. I wouldn't mind owning one of those
That oldsmobile toronado limo, that 1955 Ford bubble top, and BMW Columbus, were my favorites.
You gotta love the Columbus design having exactly ZERO similarities to any other BMWs^^
No double kidney grill, no side lines or edges, nothing. Just a sailboat for the road. Amazing
There’s several on here that I’d love any day with the Columbus and Sea Ranger being my top ones. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Great job.
I like the Gurgel look pretty straight forward on your small car needs
BMW Columbus looked practical. They should make it
Um, it wasn't a BMW, just used a BMW engine. It is actually an Italian concept car.
The engine was in the middle of it. Rear wheel drive. IT could make a high end passenger uber/lift transport
I liked it to. Much nicer than modern people carriers.
it does look like it would be very popular with uber drivers
@@e.rivera4251 it would make a good Uber...but replace the things like VHS with modern amenities. Actually with today's tech you could probally make it far better.

I would love to drive the columbus, it is not a beauty, but definitely looks like it woul make an awesome van.
The BMW Columbus is a "crazy" car I would gladly buy.
DriverOp Oremor I like it too and I don’t know why...
Me too...

It’s an ItalDesign Columbus
I'll take the sea ranger. An amphibious unimog, hell yes.
Gurgel foi a maior manifestação da criatividade brasileira para construção de carros em sua época, esse carro estava a frente de seu tempo.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Pão com ovo
That columbus would still be a show stopper today
I'll bet that Bubble top is a hot as hell place to sit on a clear sunny day.
#4 could be brought back as electric,. Families would love it. Much room, comfy, nice interior, kids and families would love it. Famly weekend van or for camping. 🤗
I wouldn't mind owning that ultralight plane. The perfect ultralight photography aircraft
The tornado limousine most definitely my favorite.
It's a reminder that there was some car designs in the late 90s that were very ahead their time.
The Beatnik Bubbletop looks like a car you would find in the Fallout Game Series.
Indeed, and/or as a Hot Wheels car.
The BMW Columbus is deffinately a vehicle to have! I can sit by my self while I transport my family! Room for everyone!
The BMW Columbus was awesome! Jet Black Paint, nicer rims, limo-tint, updated electronics and a stripper pole. That would be a badass daily driver 😆👍🏻
but why the stripper pole, U tryna make a mobile strip club or what ?
The BMW Columbus would make an awesome campervan!!
I really like the columbus.
Yea... if i would choice between that han and a people carrier... it would not even be a choice.
I did not expect to see one of the best kerbal crackpots in a video about cars but this surprise is welcome nonetheless.
I liked the little blue one person vehicle. The ideal of bringing it in the house appeals to me.
THIS IS A MUST WATCH VIDEO.! I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THESE VEHICLES AND I HAVE BEEN AROUND AWHILE!! LOL
I'd love to have an Italdesign Columbus and retrofit it to a class C RV.
I really like the BMW Columbus...but I'd fit it out for traveling alone. You could live in that thing.
Me too I wish that there were more RV/Coach/Van's with tapered jetfighter bubble where you drive.
Yes! I would’ve love a tiny house roaming RV type fitted Columbus, that’s a sexy looking machine.
I love it, been in it... And it's not a BMW, just has a BMW engine. It was made by ItalDesign.
Still want it anyway

1:11 puts a whole new meaning to owning a land yacht
Cassie at 12:07 has a very high cuteness factor. Cheers!
Nooo! Her makeup is an abomination.
The Columbus and the Toronado are the look the best.
I like the 7/9 set BMW. With all the recreational vehicles getting around now, fitting it out with fridge, microwave, etc it would make a hit.
All the vehicles are wicked. My favorite is the helicopter
It has been a while since I watched this video. I forgot how crazy some of these vehicles look!!!!!
I hate to say this, but the Columbus is the nest in this bunch.
Finally a video with actual unique and interesting cars. Well done. Also, I'm pretty sure if BMW sold that van now it'd actually be pretty popular.
I would buy the Columbus. They should try to bring it back.
68 Oldsmobile Toronado 707 Limousine - Definitely something Elvis would have owned.
The Columbus { No4 } is the best lookin if produced it would be great as a limo
I really liked the Columbus!
Musk would be proud of the Bubble Top. My favorite is the Oldsmobile Limo.
The Columbus Should Be Made
Love that BMW futuristic design
Favorite retro car for me would be the Mercedes C111. That thing looked slick! And I would agree that the Columbus isn't half bad.
C112! GAS GAS GAS!
the best part is right at the end. What a beauty :)
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION! a great glimpse of 10 of the oddest, with hundreds more to be added in future videos. As time permits, I'll offer some suggestions!
Columbus could make a sweet tiny camper
The Airmobile looks like something out of a Disney cartoon.
Those dsls in pink where my favorite.
I like the Columbus...That would be an awesome cruising/RV/camper...
#4 Columbus, I would tune up into a fancy motorhome, maybe electric powered

One of the Best lists of original cars that I have ever seen. Very well thought out list. And I have seen many. Excellent job. Thanks.
That BMW was freakin brilliant. Please put them on the market.
Thet wasn't a BMW at all. It only had a BMW engine, but it was a Italdesign concept car.
@Al Morrison --> Different strokes for different folks!
Whoever put this together must be young, all Oldsmobile Toronado's were front wheel drive. LOL

The Optica arson attack story is pretty crazy. Y'all in the experimental tech world are brutal....😁
the BMW Columbus is the coolest looking one. I'd drive it.

Loved the BMW Columbus
The volani sea ranger is my favourite because it looks like an military vehicle
I Loved #13 :) Hope they build more of them again.
i would actually buy one of the oldsmobile limos and that bmw van. i like both of them a lot.
That 65 Ranger, if you hit it, u ain't gonna hear a crack or crash, u gonna hear an "aw"!

Gurgel MotoMachine is the best
Definitely the BMW Columbus, it’s a pity it never made it to production.
