It's terrible. South Africa is beautiful but violence and crime is slowly eating the country away. Investors are slowly pulling off and things will only get worse from here. Burning things, looting, and anger won't help anyone. Authorities really need to be tough and vet out corrupt officials.
It seems this was made 2009 (that's the date on the press banner). Conditions now - in 2024 - are very different. The extremes have gotten even more extreme. Still a real beast of a city. Not for the faint hearted.
Nothing like Jozi in the world! You have to experience it 1st hand to understand. Have to move very diligent, but as long as you don’t let fear consume your heart you will have the time of your life, regardless of your background
Crime exists because they want it to exist. Crime would stop in 30 days if they would make a system like dubai . In Dubai crime is almost non existent.
Too fast paced, i know its your style but tone it down its almost like we are watching tik tok with loud music Overall love the documentary and your humor
It’s almost disorienting, especially when you’re really interested and trying to learn something new, anyway thank you. You hit the nail right on its head.
There's something about the vibe in Jozi that compels you to take action, build something, create, dare, network, sell, etc. Something about the energy in the city sparks the cells in your body that just about anything and everything is possible. You won't find it anywhere else in the world.
Been living in Joburg for 20 years, started primary school here...lived in Hillbrow for about 15 years and now living in the busy Joburg CBD (Marshalltown)...I don't know if I've just adapted to it, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
The city looks to be in a dilapidated state. There are hijacked and abandoned buildings everywhere. When you moved there 20 years ago, was the city in a better or worse state than now?
I've been to cities in Kenya,Tanzania,Zambia,Zimbabwe,Botswana etc but the only place i felt unsafe is in Jo'burg. I slept with a knife under my pillow, that's how unsafe i felt...i've never done that in other countries...never. One other thing i can say about SA...absolutely beautiful country, the views are spectacular.
Best intro ive seen thus far... SO much cramped up in a few seconds. Its a good start to exemplify the fast paced and stressful life of us Jozi people. BUT the rest of the documentary shouldve been a bit slower paced.
Been wondering the same about this channel. All extremely old (often interesting) documentaries but zero info on where they come from or even who made them. If I made a documentary and it wound up on this channel, which pretends to create these films, then I'd be upset

Likewise. It’s rubbish. Typical production from outsiders who lack personal experience. I’ve lived in Joburg, plan to return and retire but till then fly from USA there 4 times a year. Lovely place. Great people. They deserve better than this. Very poor documentary of Jozi and sheer disrespect of normal people who live there. Anyone convinced that they understand Johannesburg from this video should stick to cartoons for understanding life.
You need big minds. I'm watching this at 2am, and I like it. Give those below the poverty line free education up to right before college (high school in the United States), including lunch. All that diamond money can pay for that, it won't, but it could easily. Also, offer housing, rent to own or whatever to get impoverished people exposed to the concept generational wealth. It's not complicated. How do children of wealthy parents succeed? What is different for them? Keep people down, and stupid, and in severe poverty.. apartheid, and this is what you get. It takes generations to fix what that evil broke. But get some big minds on it. Good documentary.
I lived downtown Seattle when I was 19 and every night for a while I would spray paint on the side of Macy's-free South Africa and duck and cover. Just like giving the peasants of Russia freedom in 92, the fools didn't want it.

These types of documentaries are just nonsense. It doesn't help anyone with anything. Very poor level of research if any conducted on the origins of southern Africa and the organization called South Africa. Nothing mentioned about the causes of the socio-economic imbalance that has resulted in all issues of concern discussed in this terrible so called journalism.

Every house has high walls and barbed wire for a reason. An alarm is a must. Basically you need a fortress 🤣
Same thing in our African neighborhoods

Sounds like SA as a whole tbh.
Over here every intersection has beggars too, the violence is ongoing and the police simply don't give a f/*ck.
Good work guys
Really enjoyed this
Well put together. Great film. That's as close to Africa as I'm getting. ❤ looks beautiful though
